I just scored a fabulous deal on a St. John Knit suit on ebay...went to pay and discovered that despite years of using paypal I need to be *verified* and the only way to do it is to give them access to my bank accounts and now have to "change" the payment to a credit card for each transaction. Not sure why the time I spent *unverified* I was able to simply give them a credit card I seldom use and all was well....so I guess my reward for being a loyal user is to have more hassles?

So, I went to put in my bank info & now it tells me that I have to wait 2-3 days for it to "verify" me...ugh! I've already written the seller of my suit to explain but what a hassle for nothing!

Anyone else have this happen? Is there a way around it? I tried to open a new account, but it required the bank info from the outset....

The way around this is to use alternative payment systems, I like:
SquareUp.com (Allows you to accept credit cards for a 2.9% transaction fee when the card is swiped, or a little higher fee when entered manually)
Amazon Payments
OboPay (Person paying the money pays the fees with this one)

I do not recommend PayPal, it is probably the worst company out there. I won't even use them anymore, I would rather spend $5 more to someone who doesn't use them.

Sorry this happened to you. I've used PayPal for almost a decade with no problems ever. Hope you find something that works for you.:goodvibes

I have a secondary checking account that I keep minimal in just for these kinds of things. You'd have to find free checking to make it worth it though.

Then you can verify with that account and not have to worry about it being where most of your $$ is.

I have used them for years not issues either. Not to say it couldn't of course, but like anything, be smart with your password, change it frequently and use a combo of caps/letters/numbers/symbols.

I agree!!! I'm so annoyed!

I also get paid doing surveys and they were putting it in a Paypal account.
to get the money out I had to pay a fee regardless of how I wanted my money.

It has been a while now but I find them so intrusive!

Hope you get your suit! Sounds like a great buy.

I also agree. Paypal is the worst

Agree PP is horrible. I sold an item on Ebay and sent it to the seller after he payed via PP. Seller claims he never got item which I know he did cause he gave me good rating on Ebay. He told PP that he never received item. He received money back from PP then PP started harrassing me for the money they paid back. I have never given it to them. They took this idiots word over mine. Even though they could see the EBay rateings. I didn't keep the tracking number though...Ughh. never use them anymore.

same here... I have also been verified since the beginning.. they would place 2 small deposits into your checking account.

I use my paypal debit card instead of my bank debit card now since I get money back. I also do a bunch of rewards programs and dont get hit with any fees putting money in or taking it out.

Sorry, but this is your own fault. You should never send an item sold on eBay without using some type of delivery confirmation. If you read and follow the rules, you shouldn't have a problem.

That said, I have been using PayPal since it started, with zero problems. Many reputable online companies use Paypal as a payment option.

How long has it been since you used PayPal? The procedures you described have been required for years.

I was wondering the exact same thing, I think I opened up my PayPal account in 2005 and remember having my bank account verified.

I have also used it for years with no problems not only when purchaseing on Ebay but with Amazon and various other places when the option is offered.

You might want to get that sorted out, it will go to collections and subsequently could be a negative entry on your credit reports/score.

You hit the sending limit on paypal.

"Sending limit: The maximum amount you can send before you must verify your bank account or card information. More on getting verified to lift your limits."

The limit is $10,000. After you send that much you have to add a bank account to keep using the paypal account.

Always keep the tracking number for at least 2 months. I had 2 buyers try to charge back and both times I won since the delivery confirmation said delivered.

We have a verified account but always pay by credit card. We do have to manually change it over each time but that only takes a couple of seconds. Something I find far more worrisiome is the way that companies can automatically set up a recurring charge whether you want one or not and it won't change unless you go in and remove it. Paypal shouldn't allow this. It should be the other way around, no recurring charges unless you manually do it yourself. Aside from having to remove unwanted stuff I've never had a problem and I've been using Paypal since before it was part of Ebay.

Paypal has been a thorn in my side at times but they saved me twice. Once my ebay account was hacked and $15k was stolen from me and used to but things on ebay. Paypal and ebay took care of everything and called me before I had even realized what happened. Paypal probably has good reason to verify you.

This just happened to me this weekend - I was ans still am so frustrated - I am so used to paying immediately - thus my 100% feedback rating - I had to contact 3 sellers to inform them of my situation - am now waiting the 2 to 3 days to verify my bank account. How ridiculous - my paypal account has a card on it with over 20,000 limit - it is paid in full every month - as I said just very frustrating!!!! I feel your pain!!!

When you ship an item, can't you update the transaction details on eBay/Paypal just to include the info right at that point, then not have to worry about keeping it?

Same here. My Paypal account is verified using a secondary checking account that I use strictly as Paypal backup funding and for online transactions. It isn't linked in any way to our primary household accounts so that if a card number is ever compromised the hassle is minimal and doesn't effect our must-pays. I use my Paypal debit for most of my spending to get the cash back, and my PP account status is such that I don't run into fees for the transactions I use the account for.

I've had my PP account forever and haven't had any problems as a buyer or a seller, but (knock wood) I haven't run into any problematic or disputed transaction issues either.
