I read yesterday that rubbing a banana peel (the inside part) on the mosquito bite would help. Don't know if it works, but I might try it... 
For fire ants, mix some baking soda with the tiniest bit of water to make a paste and rub it on the bites ASAP... Then just leave it on until it dries up and falls off. Works like a charm.

A couple of years ago, we were working the stand at a football game. A litle girl got bit by fire ants. The aunt, a nurse, saw that we were selling pickles, she asked for some of the juice on a paper towel. She said the vinegar works great. I now use it on my kiddos. Also someone said really hot water, I was skeptical on this one, but it seems to work.

We have only lived in SoCal for 18 months and are just amazed by our bug-less lifestyle!!! 
We would all be sitting on their lovely deck, on a lovely summer day and then those little BUGGERS would ARRIVE. 
We get those in August.
