I hate mosquito bites! I'm going to scratch my skin off!

I read yesterday that rubbing a banana peel (the inside part) on the mosquito bite would help. Don't know if it works, but I might try it...

A couple of years ago, we were working the stand at a football game. A litle girl got bit by fire ants. The aunt, a nurse, saw that we were selling pickles, she asked for some of the juice on a paper towel. She said the vinegar works great. I now use it on my kiddos. Also someone said really hot water, I was skeptical on this one, but it seems to work.

For fire ants, mix some baking soda with the tiniest bit of water to make a paste and rub it on the bites ASAP... Then just leave it on until it dries up and falls off. Works like a charm.

Ohhhh, sorry, Pea, We have only lived in SoCal for 18 months and are just amazed by our bug-less lifestyle!!!

What was the worst was in Southern Maine, my parents summer home, the GREEN FLIES ... ugh. They bite the heck out of you. And it STINGS. We would all be sitting on their lovely deck, on a lovely summer day and then those little BUGGERS would ARRIVE.

Any of the anti-itch creams work well.

I am laughing over the 18 bites--do that here and in a half hour you would have had 100's of bites.

Check with your school before you spray the kids, I know, even in Mosquito infested MN, teachers can't apply bug spray for the kids.

YUCK! Remind me not to move there! Of course, we're only two weeks away from the snow we had, so this is only the start of the season for mosquitoes. Give it another few weeks and I bet we'll be just as bad. It seems like it's going to be a bad year for them.

I won't spray the kids either, but I did send a note home to remind parents about bug spray and sunblock.

My late DH used to dab his mosquito bites with cotton balls soaked in bleach.. Worked for him, but I can't tolerate the smell of the stuff..

Normally we have our fair share of those little buggers here at the lake, but my DD said she heard on the news that they're going to be extremely bad this year.. Looks like I won't be spending much time outside because nothing seems to work on my mosquito bites.. Guess I'm one of the not-so-lucky ones..

As for preventative measures (sprays and such), my family has had the best luck with the various Avon mosquito repellants..

I also got one on the bottom of my foot!! Luckily it hasn't bothered me much.

We live smack dab in the middle of a wooded area, so they are VERY bad in the summer and fall. Go out unprotected, and they are so bad you can literally see a cloud of them buzzing around someone.

We usually keep around the strongest (strength wise) mosquito spray around, douse ourselves in it, and hope for the best. It works pretty well, but man oh man are they a pain in the butt.

We always have them bad around here. Normally dd just automatically sprays herself before she goes outside and we use a lot of yard guard.

For little kids that may not can use actual off or a similar product, just use Avon's Skin so Soft, it will keep them away too just gets a bit oily feeling. We used this at the center for the kids 2 and under; the 3's and 4's brought their own spray. (had to spray down before going outside to play!!)

Last night dd went swimming at my niece's home and got bit in the few seconds between the pool and getting the spray!!

I had no cream or anything, but remembered that I read you could use Milk of Magnesium so we put that on them. Worked like a charm!

I have also used alcohol, benedryl cream or spray, any kind of anti-itch cream and Solarcain; actually anything we have used for sunburn will also take the itch out of bites.

Memorial Day weekend is usually when we first start seeing mosquitoes here. I do have to say that since it has been SO DRY the past few summers we don't have many around here at all any more. This spring we have been pretty dry but about 2 weeks ago we had a lot of rain and it takes about 2 weeks for them to hatch so I am sure we will have a lot soon.

Dr. Oz had someone on his show this past week that demonstrated had great lemon eucalyptus works to prevent mosquito bites.
