(Oh dear, I hope it's okay to hate mosquito bites... If not, I offer my humble apologies, but won't be taking it back because I really do!)

I took my grade one's out yesterday for gym. We played soccer baseball and then had some free time. I was outside for maybe 1/2 and hour. In that time I got 18 mosquito bites!! My back and arms are covered and there's a smattering on my feet. My skin feels like it's crawling and I'm trying so hard not to scratch! My poor kids, I wonder if they're covered, too... I'll have to suggest parents spray their little ones or send spray for when we go outside. I was hoping to actually have class outdoors, but now I'm not so sure...

Any where else experiencing really bad mosquitoes this spring?!

Every evening when I'm outside after being cooped up at work it's usually the mosquito's that make me go back in. :confused3

Mosquitos will find me if they are anywhere in a 5 mile radius.
I do not go out to get the mail in the spring or summer without Off on me.
My family laughs- they do not get bitten as bad- but I swell up and itch horribly.
No doubt you have tried itch creams, etc., but I have found something that does help the itching. I soak the skin with bites in very hot water. Hotter than is usually comfortable...as hot as you can stand. THis works for me for a couple of hours at least.

I feel your pain... Good luck!

I haven't had any mosquito bites yet, but I've had my share of black fly bites. I was only out of the car a minute or two and got several bites on the back of my neck. They're very swollen now along with the glands in my neck area. I wonder if there was one or two in the car with us, snacking. Nasty things!

I'm one of those lucky ones, for some reason they seldom bite me. However, they munch on DH like he's been served up on a platter. We've had some decent luck with bug-off bracelets (We wear the bracelets on our ankles, which is let obtrusive and keeps the smell away from the face -- also, I can put them over a sock.)

If you can put out Marigolds or Ageratum, that ought to help.

If you're at a school, are they not putting down granules on the playgrounds (assuming that they are not Tartan-surfaced).

Hate those buggers too, don't know what to suggest to keep from getting bit, but after the fact I use just the tiniest bit of maximum strength Gold Bond medicated anti-itch cream works wonders, I got a bite on the bottom of my foot last night! and it stopped the itch immediately

i usually NEVER get bit by mosquitos but the other day DH and i were in the backyard doing some yardwork and i got bit twice on my arm. DH thinks i'm lying because "mosquitos don't come out during the day....." :sad2:

I too am a walkin 'skeeter feast...
Thanks for this recommendation! I'll have to try that!

Tell DH he is quite wrong....that used to be the case but now they do whatever they please!

I'm telling you it is the best!

If the bites are like really whelped up and itching... maybe this is like you have an exaggerated allergic reaction? See if topical creams like benadryl and Cortisone, along with Zyrtec every evening help????

Omg, you should have seen my son in past summers before we started the daily Zyrtec, etc... He would actually start looking like he was afflicted with infected chicken pox! I actually took him to the dermatologist several times!

And, who doesn't hate skeeters!!!!

That's a lot of bites! Get some Sarna.

Has anyone tried alcohol? Being a diabetic, I always have alcohol wipe around, and I find that they really help. Those skeeter sticks (I think that's what they are called) never worked on me and I got desperate one time and tried the wipes and voila they worked like a charm!

I'm a mosquito magnet too....can't tell you how awful the bites are when I get them. I tried everything to calm the itch but nothing worked. Sometimes I'd find something that worked temporarily but the itch always came back, sometimes WEEKS later. Very discouraging.
Then I discovered..................*to be continued*

Sometimes those sticks worked and sometimes they didn't. Very random, too random to count on.
I discovered what works 100% of the time for me. Just plain old ice cubes.
I ice the spot until it's almost uncomfortable and the itch is gone. Rarely I have to ice a second time but you know quickly if that's the case and you take care of it.
I was very happily surprised that such a simple solution existed!
Good luck OP! Skeeter bites are awful...........

We use Benadryl spray and keep it in the refrig. so when you spray it it's cold. Makes bug bites feel better by the cold until it actually starts working a few minutes later.

Mosquitoes love me, too. My in-laws' used to have their summer house in the woods near the shore, and the first time I visited I came home with so many bites I looked like I had chicken pox.

For prevention now I use Avon's Bug Guard Plus (100% effective for me), and if I forget to wear it and do get bit I used hydrocortizone cream.

You all have to move to Southern California ... no bugs here at all!!! :cool1:
I have my doors and windows open all day long w/no screens!!! ::yes::

I do not miss that buggy New England weather. :headache:

My son was bitten bad the other evening. I gave him a little cup of apple cider vinegar and some cotton balls. He dabbed the vinegar on one time so far today, and he said that the itching stopped. (I read about the vinegar on-line..:rotfl:)

A couple of years ago, we were working the stand at a football game. A litle girl got bit by fire ants. The aunt, a nurse, saw that we were selling pickles, she asked for some of the juice on a paper towel. She said the vinegar works great. I now use it on my kiddos. Also someone said really hot water, I was skeptical on this one, but it seems to work.

I hate mosquitos. :headache: I keep tubes of benadryl cream (actually, the generic brand, too) everywhere - in my purse, the car, the house, etc. The spray doesn't work as well for me, but the cream stops the itch right away.

The other thing that was a great find last year was an electric fly swatter that zaps em. BJ's had them, as did Ocean State Job Lot for locals.

Go ahead, rub it in. :cutie: (No pun intended!)

Any of the anti-itch creams work well.

I am laughing over the 18 bites--do that here and in a half hour you would have had 100's of bites. :lmao:

Check with your school before you spray the kids, I know, even in Mosquito infested MN, teachers can't apply bug spray for the kids.
