I am NOT a girly-girl at all. I'm home with my kids and daycare kids all day long! I wear play clothes almost everyday. Well, today I am going out for lunch with only adults. So I picked out a nice outfit, ironed it (yuck! that is DH's job!) and actually styled my hair. I should have stopped there. Instead I tried to put on makeup. I can figure out the foundation and blush stuff, but I can not figure out how to do my eyes. A friend who sells Avon tried to teach me once, but I'm helpless and clueless. So my question to you is how do you stop the eyeshadow stuff from falling off your eyelid and pooling under your eye. This always happens to me. Should I just go back to living under my rock and not try to socialize with the general public??

I don't wear make-up except when absolutely necessary. But, for lunch, I think you would be fine with just some mascara and lip gloss.

I have started to use a Mary kay product that you put on under your eye shadow and it helps to keep your make-up on. It works really well for me. I think it is called "eye primer" or something. I believe there are other company's that have a similar product (Clinique, maybe?). Also use powder or foundation on your lids. That seems to help as well.

I understand how frustrating it is, believe me!

I agree. Especially if you don't wear makeup a lot.

Buy yourself some powdered eyeshadow in neutral colors. A nice light beige and a brown. Use one side of the sponge brush and cover your eyelid from lashes to eyebrow with the beige. Then use the other side of the brush for the brown and cover just your lid from lash to crease. A little mascara and you are good to go.

This is a good way to start. If you really like it you can go further:

put concealer (cheaper then primer - and it works double duty) on your eyelids before shadow - the revlon concealer is pricey - but works well.

to keep it simple though - use a tinted moisturizer, blush, put on some pale gold/beige shadow (compliments most everyone - just put it on the lid, and a bit over the crease), curl your lashes (if you have a curler) and some black mascara. slap on lip gloss (pinky or clear) and you have a pretty "summer" face. even try some bronzer if you like.

I'm a makeup junkie...it's quite pathetic really - I have this HUGE tackle box (yes - the fishing kind) that I bought at wal-mart and it's PACKED with makeup

Oh, start over. :teeth:
this is what I do :)

Wash your face and put on some moisturizer. Wait about 10 minutes to make sure it's soaked in good.

Put on concealer if you need it. Pat it on, do not rub.

Put on foundation, make sure it's blended well.

check your concealer again, apply it again if neccessary.

Use a loose powder and brush all over your face. Use a brush with a compact if you don't.
Make sure to put extra powder under your eyes.

Next I use liquid eyeliner. I put it as close to my lashes as possible. Seriously, between my lashes. ;)

While that dries I put on my blush and lipstick.

Now, back to the eyes. Use an eyelash curler now if you like.
Put a light color all over your lid. When you use the brush in the shadow, make sure to tap off the excess. That'll cut down on the extra under your eyes.
Now, in the crease, use a darker shadow. Since you don't have much experience, I'd just use a slightly darker shadow. Make sure to blend up. That is using a brush to feather the shadow up in tiny strokes. Like this. ^^^^^^
Use the same color and a tiny brush and go over the liner with it. It'll soften it.

I'd use the powder brush and brush across my face again, to get rid of any excess powder and tone down the blush if neccessary.

Use mascara, make sure it's not old and clumpy. Put a couple coats on.

Then the gloss and you're done.

Forget the foundation etc. Just use mascara, eye liner (if you think you need it) and lip stick or lip gloss. It's enought to highlight your features, especially if you don't normally wear make up.

This is what I do and I go out to work everyday. Stick with neutral shadows, mascara, and maybe some neutral powder blush.

When you start getting into actual *colors* it gets tricky.

I'm 41, work in an office and NEVER wear makeup. I have an excuse, though - bad eyesight! I'm always worried that I won't be able to see if my makeup looks well blended or not so I just don't use it.

If I'm going out for a special night, the most I put on is blush and lip gloss.

Thanks for all the help!!! I ended up taking off the eye makeup (and temporarily blinding myself with the eye makeup remover....don't try to watch yourself doing it!) and just sticking w/ the natural look. It is just lunch, I don't know why I bothered. But I really appreciate all the help and I'll check out some of those websites later for the next time I feel compelled to fancy myself up!

Sounds like a good plan. Have fun at lunch. :)

sounds like me
i dont own any makeup except a mascara and a clear gloss
no eyes stuff nothing flashy

No make-up here... nobody cares! LOL!

Too active..... too sweaty.... sun, wind, blowing dirt..... it's just not worth it.

Rachie ~ I had to laugh at your post. I am not a girly-girl these days either. I work at home and spend my day with dogs and kids. If DH came home and I was wearing makeup he would either have a heart attack or become very suspicious of me. :rotfl: I hope you had a nice lunch with your friends because you deserve it and I know you looked fabulous with or without makeup!

I rarely wear makeup, just a touch to work if I have time and on special occasions.

I keep it very simple. A bit of pressed powder to match my skin color (lighter in winter; medium in summer) blended in really well. I put a bit of light brown eyeshadow on my lids (Clinique or Body Shop) and line the upper and lower lids of my eyes with a grey liner and smudge it - again really well. No mascara necessary. A bit of blush and always lipstick. Done.

Foundation makes my skin feel like it can't breathe, LOL. That and nylons - realized a few years back I could Just Say No! :cheer2:
