So the Canon 60d rebates came to an end yesterday... I decide to order b4 they expire

ABEs OF MAINE-sounded reputable and been around for a long time.
$899-after rebate
$20-code
$6-upgraded shipping(should be here within a abusiness week.
canon wireless shutter remote to bring total to $913.xx

Well this morning I get a call "to verify shipping address" after the "verification" our conversation goes something like this...

ABES: Do you have enough high speed memory cards?

ME: Yes thank you I have it covered

ABES: Are you sure they are high speed cuz the camera only works with High speed.

ME: Yes I have it covered.

ABES: Which ones do you have?

ME: Thank you, I do not need any memory cards.

ABES: How big are they.

ME: I have about 10 of them, I have it covered.

ABES: Ok that leads me to the number one thing, the battery did you know that the canon battery only lasts about half an hour...

ME: Yes I understand

ABES: OK so I will get you the extended battery that lasts four times longer...on sale for $29 today only

ME: Negative, just the camera and remote that I ordered.

ABES: (now sounded very frustrated and aggressive)This is a very high priced item so I will cover it with the 4 year CANON warranty.

ME: No thank you

ABES: Ok the CANON 4 year warranty was only $10 but your dont want it, so your total will be $913.xx... AND HANGS UP

I have heard that about them. I have also heard that you will get what you ordered without problems though, so everything should turn out alright.

That was my experience with them a few years ago, I got the camera I ordered just fine, but who wants to deal with that high pressure crap? Now I pay a few dollars more elsewhere to businesses that don't do such ridiculous things.

That sounds like the conversation I have every time I walk into Best Buy.

I'm glad that you are at least getting the stuff you ordered at the price quoted. :thumbsup2

I bought a lens from them in 09 and had the exact same experience! I was also annoyed with it.

I bought my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens from them. They did call to "verify" the order and tried to upsell a filter which I declined, didn't hassle me at all when I said no though. I saved almost $300 vs. buying the lens in Canada, but I'd only go through the hassle again for ridiculous savings like that!

Yes for savings like that, it sounds like a minimal annoyance at worst.

But this guy had attitude, and I only saved $20.

It was just a general tone that got worse when I would not play along with his script. If he had asked if I was interested in this or that, fine.

But dont try to tell me that my SD cards wont work, cuz they will
Dont tell me that the OEM battery only lasts half an hour, cuz it is rated for 1100 shots(no flash, no live view).
Dont tell me that you are offering a CANON 4 year warranty, when you are offering a third party plan.
Dont do any of the above in a condescending tone.
AND DONT HANG UP ON A CUSTOMER.

I've ordered 2 cameras from them, but only on-line. Never got a phone call and I got just what I had ordered.

I've bought my three most expensive lenses from them, as well as my Mrs. Groucho's K-x. On my first order, I had to call and talked to some disinterested-sounding guy. The second order, I was able to put in the comment field (when placing the order), "I do not want any filters or other stuff, please just process the order" or something like that, and it worked. Third time, they had a call too and I explained as soon as I called that I'd been through this before and didn't want anything, and they were nice about it. For the K-x, I think it was another call and after explaining that no, a UV filter is not a good thing to put on a DSLR, the call was done. :) None of the times did I have to deal with anyone rude; I usually just tried to get the calls over as soon as possible.

I figure that it's part of the deal when you order from them. They are pretty cheap, there's almost always a coupon available, and they're not in NYS so I don't have to pay tax. I haven't had anyone rude yet but I'm sure some of them are... but IMHO it's to be expected and not worth getting too steamed about.

It's kind of like the cost of things at Disney. I see some people there who grouse and moan every time they see a price tag... I try to have the attitude that I know things are more expensive in WDW than they would be in the outside world, and there's nothing I can do about it. I've gotten over it and moved on. There's better things to concern oneself with. :)

Just wanted to update, since I was quick to bash them, it is only fair that I inform everyone that they did deliver as promised. I ordered SAT(upgraded shipping one level $5.xx) item arrived Friday. I am in the Southern Cal area.

It was well packed in plain brown box, no indication that it was an expensive camera.

Transaction 3 outa 5 stars
based on price and delivered in a single work week from east coast. They do send out very many emails, I wont call it spam since I authorized they send me offers. I have received as many as 3 in a single day from them.
Overall I dont think I would use them to save $20 again, I would reward the retailers I prefer. But if I was going to save over $50, sure I would deal with them.
