I HATE Heelys

I'm working in retail this summer. In a major department store at the mall. Needless to say I see kids in them every day. They love rolling up and down the aisles. I have gotten hit by those same twits as they're rolling down the aisle out of control. I have watched them topple displays, again, because they're out of control. I was in Target last week and watched one boy wearing them roll out of control right into the end of shelves.
I dont see a problem with Heely's if they're worn outside in open spaces. But obviously they're not being worn there, and that's a problem. So I, too, HATE Heelys

Thank goodness they are losing their appeal here w/kids and are pretty much out of style now!

I think they are the dumbest thing since sliced bread and I've not allowed my kids to have them (novel concept: "NO, you can't have everything").

My favorite Heeley experience was at Great America this summer watching a tanktop wearing mom and her brood of thugs-to-be come rolling to the front gate infront of us. Well, the 4 year old thug fell down behind mom who then bumped into the 6 yo thug who pushed his bigger sister (maybe 7) down on the ground...they were all crying!

Well, according to the 2 or 3 threads I read on the Theme Park boards, be prepared to see them at WDW--because "there isn't a sign prohibiting it". Yes, someone said that on a thread--even after someone posted an email with someone from Disney saying that they aren't allowed! I really can't believe that anyone thinks that it's Ok to wear these in a store, a mall or a theme park.

I'm in agreement, they sure are annoying. I wonder how those kids will walk when they get older. Every time I see a kid try to walk in those they have to walk on their tip toes to avoid rolling.

I don't get how they work. If there is only one wheel, how can you move...I don't think I'd have the balance for it!

I hate them too and agree, what are the parents thinking when the allow them to skate in the stores. Its dangerous, rude and inconsiderate.

What? You don't think it is cute and adorable to be forced into a rousing game of Roller Derby at JcPenney's?

Well aren't you the grouchy one! :rotfl2:

I saw them at Disney when I was there in July. They were using them to push trough crouds and get ahead in lines. I know one family doesn't make a difference in front of you in line, but it got sort of old walking there and the having some kid roll by and dart in front of you in the line. :sad2:

I hate Heelys as well. On numerous occasions while walking down a store aisle, we have kids almost crash into us because they are skating with these sneakers on. It seems that their parents don't even care whether or not they are skating in the store. I don't even get how they can even keep their balance on one wheel.

My Mom took my older son out last week to treat him to new school sneakers. ( He came back with Heelies on)

I was pretty ticked.. So far I had resisted buying them, but, I hadn't forbid it.
However they will not be going to Disney next week with us. And CERTAINLY I would never allow them to be worn to school. So I guess we still have to sneaker shop for back to school.

I think they are absolutely rediculous. Every single time I am at wal mart/target, without fail some kid tries to squeeze by us on their heelies. Grrrrrrrr! :furious:
It drives me up the wall. Why can't these kids just go to the store with their parents and not have to be entertained every second of their lives. I really think today's kids are dependent on constant stimulation and entertainment. (In the form of toys and electronics.)

The only thing that keeps the older kids from wearing them is thefact that they only come in little kid sizes :confused3

I work at a specialty sporting goods store and are asked if we carry them *every single day*

I don't hate them, I think they're cute...but with any toy used in public it's up to the parents to teach their kids to be responsible about where and how they use them.

Those who fly by you and run into people and other things deserve to be tripped when they go by you guys ;)

My Mom bought DS some. I have no problem with them. He hardly even wears them now, he has had them for about 2 months.

I have never had someone even come close to running into me with them on or seen anyone knock something over in a store. I actually have not seen that many people wearing them anywhere.

BTW, if you felt the need to stick your foot out in front of my son, I would feel the need to stick my fist in your face! *IF* he ran into you (which he wouldn't) then there would be something to talk about.

oh and there it is folks..the point where a nice thread suddenly becomes personal... :sad2:

popcorn:: popcorn::
BTW I'm taking bets on how long until the thread gets locked after this point... :surfweb:

As you can see from my post right above yours, I am also here...popcorn ready. :rotfl:

Bought my son a pair of Heelies last year for his birthday...

They are just great. Watching old folks who've never seen/heard of them, look at my kid in the grocery store...

Watching my kid do what I always warn him against doing by saying, "Don't be an idiot"...

Watching my kid gently wipe out in public, where I can point and laugh at him....Or even bandage up the not-so-gentle wipeouts...

They aren't KEWL here anymore. A few wipeouts and even just public family- witnessed wipeouts are humilating enough for most kids to *outgrow* them pretty fast.

But more anonymous public *pointing and laughing* could help speed things up. :teeth:

I'm so glad you can make that guarantee. :thumbsup2

These things better make their way out before my son is old enough. No way is he getting these things.

Same here, don't care if they cry and beg or even hold their breath...Not gettin' em!
Probably the same will go for rollerblades only because bestfriend shattered her leg using them. She had all the pads on, helmet, was being very careful, hit a bump on the road in a weird way and literally twisted and shattered her upper leg bone into three pieces. Had to have a rod put in and she gave away her rollerblades the day she got home from the hospital.
