I hate conformists.

I root for 'underdog' teams...such as the mets, jets, and islanders.
I don't like people who root for teams just because they're good.

I can only think of a handful of people who I know personally that actually do things to conform and try to fit in. It doesn't seem to be a big deal, definitely not at my school at least. I think people make this out to be a way bigger issue than it is. Honestly the only problem I can think of right now is those who conform to nonconformity.

Yeah I don't give a crap what other people think of me. Somedays I feel more like wearing the whole hollister preppy thing, other days I am more into stuff I have picked up over the years. I just dyed my hair blonde, because I felt like it, not to fit in. I LOVE taylor swift because honestly I can relate to A LOT of her songs and its nice to feel like somebody else knows exactly whate you are going through. I support my hometown teams, because its my hometown. I don't know much about sports at all, so I root for the ones that are close by. Thats just me. Idk, I don't try to fit in, I don't try to be original either. I like what I like and thats that.

Clothing: I only wear Hollister and Abercrombie and such because it is comfortable on me and I like it.
Taylor Swift: Believe it or not, she actually has a good voice. So did ya ever think that maybe it's not the fact that everyone likes her because she's famous but because she has a good voice?
Sports Teams: Who cares if people want to support the local team? I love the Washington Redskins, but I also love the San Diego Chargers. I like the Nationals, but I'm a sox fan at heart.

and just to reitterate, once you become an adult, no one's gonna give a flying crap what you like or what youre in to. seriously, theyre either going to take it or leave it.
if you like to wear hollister, like to listen to taylor swift, and support who the heck-ever team, then more props to you. if you dont like them, then so what?
"not conforming" makes you looped with other "non-comformists" most of them not having any idea what they are choosing not to "conform" to.

and yeah, some people do feel that they need to wear what everyone else is, listen to what everyone else is, and support the team everyone else is. and thats sad for them to not being their own individual. that is someone who has zero to no self confidence and only knows how to follow a pack. they'll regret it.

really, the only person that you need to worry about accepting yourself is...yourself. if you like who you are and what youre in to (provided you know...your hobby isn't something that you'd find in a horror movie or whatever...) than it shouldn't matter what people think. a little hint, people usually "dont like" or "dont accept" something that they dont know or are unfammiliar with.
i cosplay, which means i go to geek-conventions and dress up as make believe characters. yeah, most people would read that and go "wow, she must be like...a super nerd with no life, blahblahblah" and yeah. i am a super nerd, but i have fun, i like what i do, and im not hurting anybody by doing it. ive met life long friends that i get to see every year because of it. i dont stop doing something just because someone else feels they have the right to judge me and tell me what im doing is wrong.

bottom line, be yourself. if someone doesnt like it? screw em'.

Well put Becca.

There are a handful of people on my college campus that you could peg as "conformists" but for the most part people dont really care that much.

i find people who overtly try no to conform to be the worst to be honest. like the people who search myspace for hours to find the most obscure band or watch indie movies just to be elitist and a "non conformist". I watch indie movies alot but i don't go out and say "everyone who watched mainstream crap is a conformist" i dont do it for any other reason than i like them and find them interesting.

i think that the strongest tool that you have against conformity is not clothes, or music, or movies, or sports teams, but your personality. Be yourself, as unique as you are, and if you can do that, then you are different from the rest. (awww hallmark moment)

I am so far from conforming to what others do, but I am also not going to go out and criticize people for what they conform to . That is what they want to do and it is up to them not me to decide what they like and don't like.

I agree it up to the person what they want to do, but it is very annoy when someone does something just to fit in. Someone I used to be friends with was like that, he liked certain if a certain person liked them. People should jsut be themselves for the most part, if people don't like that then its the people's problem that they csn't others for being themselves.

The only way you can be original with big name clothing is if you customize it yourself (Most of my friends create their own clothing from older clothing and create new and interesting styles).

Why do you care? Does it affect you if someone wants to fit in, and the only way they know how is to follow the same trends as others?

You guys say that it bothers you when you see so many people wearing mall brands, but why does it matter?

I'd say the so called 'non-conformists' are even more judging than the 'conformists'.

Personally, I do whatever I like/wear whatever I like/listen to whatever I like. (ETA) It's the only way to be 'individual'.

Gosh you people in this thread r so mean. Saying things like "Why do you care" and talking back to the OP in a rude way. The OP is right.

Really? Because I'd say he's acting immature and judgmental. Who gives a flying duck what someone else is wearing? You don't have to like it, but it's their right to wear it.

I'm not going to live to make you happy. (General you, not a specific poster)

Why should it bother you what other people think if they think its annoying that people do the same thing is pretty much the same, its their opinion.
(^Not really my thoughts, about 7% though).

I can see bothe sides, I've had about 6 years of people abusing me because I'm not like them (not just from strangers but family, teachers (head teacher was the worst) and (ex-)friends), so I know everyone should be allowed to express themselves in the way they choose...however, I don't see why some people have to do it in a way to please people.

Nobody is going to care what you were wearing, what your were doing, and what "clique" your assosciated with in high school. Be yourself, because when you get out in the real world, people will like the real you
a whole lot better.

The OP expressed their opinion, why can't everyone else express theirs without being called rude?

i hate to be the one to break this to you, but...
by rejecting the status quo, you're conforming to an entire different group: those that like to "not conform."

be who you are. if it matches other people, thats cool. if it doesn't, thats cool too. don't avoid conforming just to make some weak statement. do it because its what you want, and the word "conformity" is the furthest thought from your mind.

just be who you are...why does that have to be so hard?

::yes:: ::yes::

Honestly, I don't really give a crap if you don't like what I like, and I'm not going to change myself because you think I'm trying to to fit in. I'm being me. Sure, there a lot of people who love the same things I do. But that doesn't even make me love those things any less. So sorry if you hate me because of that. :confused3

I really have no clue if I am conforming or not. To have a clue, I would have to pay attention to other people... And that's just no fun.
