I am so sick of having comcast as our cable provider. i don't understand why they are allowed to be such a monopoly.

a couple months ago when we called because we were having a problem, we were told we were the only people in our apartment building that hadn't gone to digital cable yet (which is not true), and that we should "get with the times."

then on sunday when dh tried to order a ppv, we discovered our ppv channel had disappeared. when he called to find out what was going on they told us that they no longer offer ppv to basic cable subscribers and you have to get digital.

so we caved and decided to sign up for digital. dh took off from work early today b/c they were supposed to come out between 5-8. he called to confirm the appointment when he got home. of course, they have no record of our appointment today, they have us booked for an appointment on saturday instead.    so now dh has taken off work early and we have to cancel our saturday plans or reschedule and take off from work early again. UGH!!!!!!

It's a small consolation, but we've had very similar problems with comcast and their appointments. Make sure they give you something for your missed time... I THINK they are supposed to either give you a $25 credit or waive the charges that were supposed to be charged for that visit. Like I said, small consolation... They totally don't have their act together over there. I'm convinced comcast is run by monkeys.

You don't have to go digital until 2006. You don't have to caved in go digital either. I have basic cable and I am not going digital until 2006 because the federal government tells me to. No matter how much Comcast cable get on my nervoues. Is pay view that important in the house that you won't to go digital. if not than don't go because Comcast tells you to.

I have Comcast cable not going digital until that last minute until 2006. I don't care how much they bully me. I do not think digital is worth it here. Because all the music channels that they have on digital cable. My advise is not to cave in not get digital.

Comcast is also our cable provider here in North Florida...and they want to provide my local telephone service...NO WAY. We do have a Public Service Commission here in Florida that regulates monopolies. If your state has a PSC they can light a fire under them...usually just notifying the Company that you will be contacting the PBS will do the job.

Comcast is run by crooks. I cannot begin to enumerate the problems I have had with them, but the worst was when I paid my bill EARLY because we were leaving for our WDW vacation. They started sending me late notices. Even tho my bank sent them PROOF OF PAYMENT THREE TIMES, they kept harrassing me. A dozen phone calls, 5 letters and 20 faxes later, I finally got a call from someone who admitted that they had posted my payment to the wrong account. This ordeal went on for SIX MONTHS. The "apology" I received was a letter from one of their VPs basically blaming me for being a whiner.

If there was cable competition, Comcast would be out of business. Their telemarketing center is in California and my caller ID alerts me to their calls (EVERY SINGLE DAY) to get us to buy digital.

I have Verizon DSL at home, partly because I refuse to give Comcast another dime. I am stuck with Comcast cable modem at work, and it goes down EVERY SINGLE DAY.

I LOATHE COMCAST. (Can you tell I am not happy with them?)

This local cable monopoly has got to end.

I am SOOOOOO agreeing with you right now....

I moved back in September. They sent over two sets of idiots to try to get my internet set up. It NEVER was set up. They also used two digital boxes to try to get my cable working. The last one finally worked but I only stayed at the residence for a few weeks because I found out the person I was renting it from was in FORECLOSURE... (a WHOLE Judge Judy thing by itself.. but I digress... )

Soooooo, I move to my next place and return the two boxes the first week in December. December 24th, MERRY CHRISTMAS, I receive a BILL for $984!!!!!! :earseek:

I was on the phone in about 2 seconds. The poor clerk had to deal with me. She told me I needed my receipt. With moving 3 times in three months and Christmas and a vacation I couldn't find the darned receipt. She basically told me "too bad". So a slip of paper means I have to pay these DOLTS nearly a THOUSAND DOLLARS???? No WAY!

That Monday I was up there in a huff. The CSR told me they don't keep receipts, but do store them. Sooooo where are they stored???? She told me she would have it researched and they'd get back to me.

I am SURE I'm not the only one they've done this to.

I still haven't had any resolve to this mess. I know they just LOVE seeing me show up because I've given up talking to the Rhodes scholars they employ on the phone... my braindead cousin used to work there so I don't think I'd waste my time talking to them...

Needless to say I'm THROUGH with their mess and am checking elsewhere. If there was ANY OTHER WAY to see TV in Georgia I would drop them like a ROCK. BTW, you get NO reception without cable in my neighborhood. I NEVER had cable in Brooklyn and got great reception. What a RIP!!

Sorry... can you tell I just LOVE Comcast???????

Comcast is the worst! When we moved from an apartment to our house, we brought the digital cable box with us. They came out and connected us (a day late, but ok) and it seemed like a no-brainer.

Like Robin though, the next month we got this $500 bill on the old account because they didn't track the box to it's new location. The amount in itself amazes me since we are on our third box in two years because they keep breaking, but I digress...

We got it all straightened out eventually, but geesh, it's like an act of Congress to get anything done and it's just a miracle if you can actually get somebody on the phone who can identify the problem.

Don't even get me started on that appointment window stuff they shell out....they haven't hit one yet for us. We complain every time, spend the 10 minutes or so on hold to talk to a Supervisor and eventually squeeze a free month out of them for our trouble. I figure if they have to give enough away for free, maybe they'll shape up!

I solved the Comcast problem.....I got Directv, and have been very happy with it. And it's a lot cheaper too. :)

How frustrating for you. They are determined to force you to get digital, aren't they?

I also can't stand Comcast. Our problem has been with their internet service, though. We're currently looking into getting DSL instead because I am so tired of calling them constantly and getting the runaround everytime we have a problem- which is very frequent! We've also had lots of problems with billing. One of the many times that we had to have a technician out, he spent 3 hours here and tried 3 different modems before he could finally get one to work. Well, our next bill had $150 in installation charges- $50 for each modem that the technician tried. I was on the phone for an hour and a half and talked to 3 different people before they were able to remove the charge from my account.

This is very interesting-we got Comcast when they bought out the cable portion of AT&T who had been our TV and internet provider. I think they are the greatest-no billing problems and the ONLY time i have had my internet go down is when my firewall takes me offline. And since I work for a high speed IP provider, I know a thing or two about network down times and it has been pretty darn good..I would go back to dial up before I would get DSL because the only DSL provider in my area is Qwest-and let me tell you the monkeys running Comcast in your area trained at Qwest-my phone has been disconnected three times in the last six months when my bill was current-and I pay by electronic draft and verify on line that it has been posted to the correct account-But some one with the same name as my DH (Mike Smith) has a problem paying thier bill and those morons can't be troubled to check the phone number before they interupt the service. I had been considering getting local phone from Comcast ( I get long distance for free from my company) but maybe I will rethink that.

I have to say, I had comcast digital cable/internet service for 2 years (until I moved in september) and I was thrilled with them. I had to call once because we were having a problem w/ the box, and they tried to give me the run around, and I said 'let me speak with your manager', the manager got on, and not only did we have someone come within the week (at the best time for US) to install a new box at no charge, they gave us a CREDIT for the (extremely minor) problem we were having. (The digital cable was reading 'not available @ this time' for all channels, so we couldn't figure out what we were watching. Not a major problem, but they were willing to credit us for the time we spent without this feature.)

Since I moved we aren't able to get comcast, and I'm kind of sad about it. The company we are with sends a letter almost every month saying 'we're planning on adding a 2$ fee for this..', and we can either pay the additional 2 dollars or lose it (sometimes it's a channel, other times it's an extra connection, or adding channels on to another connection), on top of that the internet service had been cutting off like 10 times per day and we kept calling, and the tech dept. consist of some 17 year old kid who answers your problems by saying 'well there's no problem over here, it must be on your end, sorry.' and hangs up on us.

Sorry you're having the problems you are with comcast, but atleast you're not stuck with some rinky dink service that charges an arm and a leg (much more than we were charged w/ comcast) AND can't even give you any support. :(

tricia.

We also have Comcast and have never had any problems. Compaired to some of the other providers in the past I would take them in a minute. I remember some of our early providers and they were a nightmare.

No problems here with cable or phone and I love On Demand.

Add me to the list of comcast haters! I wish we had another cable choice. We moved in November and comcast was here 3 times in the first week then twice since thenb:rolleyes:. Their hardware doesn't work (we had 2 boxes before we finally got one that worked) and they can't seem to hook things up correctly.

Then, we couldn't get verizon dsl in our new house so we were stuck with comcast. It kills me to have to use them but we were going nuts without internet access and we didn't want dial up. I wish something new would come along.

Let's be fair here...I hate BrightHouse/Time Warner!!

We had satellite for 6 + years, never a problem.

Switched to cable for high-speed internet (DSL not available yet). OMG....TOTAL NIGHTMARE!

If I didn't show up (with 2 very young kids in tow) and then promise to show up again, my computer would still be incapacitated by these idiots!

I totally agree that the cable monopolies must be broken! In Indiana, they are making progress with the phone monopolies and we have an UNBELIEVABLE Attorney General who put a stop to telemarketers (and prosecutes and fines them, it is sooo much fun!)

So, I'll be sending an email today. Elections are around the corner, this could be another winning issue (he won based on his campaign promise to stop telemarketers and he has done an outstanding job, won 2 "please let us start calling again" cases).

We have Comcast too and I swear it goes down at least once a week, and lately it's been a lot more than that. They told me that they were "working on the lines" and there would be spotty service until Feb. 27.

My favorite is when you call to report an outage, they say they have to open a trouble file on us and someone will be out in the next few days. I then tell them that the whole neighborhood is out, but they say they can't report an outage until at least 5 other neighbors call in. So I have to find 5 other neighbors that are home and have them call in before they'll send someone out right away. It drives me NUTS!

We inherited Comcast when AT&T sold their cable business to them. Before AT&T it was TCI. I can't remember who it was before TCI. We've had digital cable as long as its been available because that used to be the only way to get HGTV. We also have digital phone through our cable service and a cable modem. I really worried about switching to the digital phone but figured since we have cell phones we could handle any outages without worrying about health and safety issues. No longer having to pay for local calls is saving me a bundle.

Anyway, I've had the least amount of problems with Comcast than any of the previous providers. And haven't had a single problem with our internet access since I switched from dial-up.

i guess we need to move to colorado or illinois. :p

unfortunately we can't get a dish since we live in an apartment, and my husband has to watch his WWE pay per views  so it looks like we will be giving $$$ to the evil empire of comcast for now. when we can finally afford our own home, i am determined to never give comcast another cent of my money.

I have Comcast at college, and I just got a bill in the mail saying that if I didn't pay them $120 by TOMORROW that my cable would be shut off.

So I called them last night, checkbook in hand, because I KNOW I paid my bill, and the woman looks me up and goes "oh, yeah your credit is zero, you owe nothing, the check got crossed in the mail".

So WHEN were they going to tell me this, after I sent them a check for 100 dollars that I didn't owe?

Perhaps this is just my first experience living on my own and paying bills, so maybe this happens all the time, but I was pretty annoyed.
