A spa is to sit in and relax. Don't give your kid diving sticks for your kid to swim around in one. Yes, happening right now at VWL.

I totally agree with you. Kids should not be in the spa in the first place. These folks are being insensitive to others trying to relax. :furious:

Oooo! If I were you, I'd tell the parents about a girl in my city who got her hair caught in the drain while diving in a spa. Did not end well. :(

Totally agree! Besides the fact that it's dangerous for young children to be in a hot tub. I wish WDW would make it against 'rules' for anyone under 12 to be in a hot tub.

Hot tubs are dangerous period. Adults can look after themselves, know when they're feeling "off" and get themselves out and showered off before any adverse effects happen. Kids will dive (as shown) overheat and swallow the water. Then the parents blame the restaurants when little timmy is tossing his cookies 4 hours later, and forget about the pool/hot tub.

Chillax... This is Disney..... It's all about the kids. What harm are they doing.

Taking over the entire hot tub, preventing adults from using it.

I don't want to be seen as the creepy guy that chose to go in the hot tub with your kids.

Perhaps we need "single rider line" CM's at hot tubs. If a CM tells me to join your kids then it's all OK.

sorry, but i disagree. disney (as well as any other public space) is about people: children, adults, elders, families, singles, male, female, etc......and simple consideration of others sharing that public space.

aside from the many, obvious dangers of allowing children to use a spa as a diving pool :confused3

By design a hot tub/spa isn't a kiddie pool. While Disney is a family destination that is wonderful for children, it's also enjoyed by adults.

IMO the hot tubs/spas should be labeled for adult use only. There are plenty of water activities/pools for children.

My mom used to say "You have to have a license to fish and drive, you ought to have to at least pass a test before you are allowed to have children." :lmao:

I'm surprised that it isn't a rule. It ought to be. It is at many resorts we've been to (though it is often a broken rule).

At Aulani 2 years ago, the 2 'infinity' hot tops were overrun with kids playing, splashing, diving, etc. It wasn't very enjoyable for adults.

This year (last month) those 2 hot tubs were adults only. What a difference. Very enjoyable and relaxing this time.

(btw, Aulani does have 2 other hot tubs that are not restricted to adults.)

Another often broken rule is that kids in a hot tub MUST have adult supervision.

There have been times at Disney I wanted to use the spa and didn't because it was full of kids. Spas aren't good for kids! I have seen FB photos of toddlers in spas. Spas are a festering germ pool--I am willing to take the risk, but I don't believe in subjecting kids to it.

I was in the spa at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar in Puerto Rico. There were a couple and their sons in their, too. The sons were playing football, throwing the ball, splashing into the faces of anybody who dared to come in. Oh yes, and yelling.
I left after a few minutes, as the spa was luke warm. As I was walking away, I heard the husband say happily, "We're chasing everybody out," to which the wife responded, "Good!"

But that family's vacation is more important that anyone else's and rules don't apply to them because they are special...didn't you get the memo? How dare you! :)

  1. Heed...hot tub rules for safe and healthy use.
  2. Refrain from entering a hot tub when you have diarrhea.
  3. Avoid swallowing hot tub water or even getting it into your mouth.
  4. Shower or bathe with soap before entering the hot tub.
  5. Observe limits, if posted, on the maximum allowable number of bathers.
  6. Exclude children less than 5 years of age from using hot tubs.
  7. Avoid drinking alcohol before entering the hot tub or during hot tub use.
  8. If pregnant, consult a physician before hot tub use, particularly in the first trimester.

Well maybe many parents think that if adults ignore the advice of drinking while in the hot tub they can ignore the advice for their kids. The sad part, is that the advice above could save lives or prevent illness.

We were at Aulani earlier this month, and really enjoyed the adult's only pool and spas. It was a world of difference than having kids diving over the side of the upper spa to the lower spa which happened during our first trip to Aulani in 2012. There were some close calls with kids landing on top of guests below. The new pool and spa at Kamaka Landing was overflowing with adults and kids. And yes the kids used it as a swimming pool. But the second family spa (near the lazy river) was further away from the pools and kids would only pop in and leave quickly.

At WDW, very few of the spas are 104 degrees. Many are barely luke warm. Maybe it's because of all the kids taking them over, Disney is going the safer route.
