Nothing freaks me out more than bats!!! I know they are harmless - but when I was little people would always tell me they'd get stuck in my hair. They are out like crazy tonight!

I am so freaked out at bats that my DH took me fishing once and bats were swooping down towards our boat. So thinking that they would get stuck in my hair - I literally took my t-shirt off (don't worry...I had a bathing suit on underneath - but I'm not sure that would have stopped me LOL) and wrapped it around my head. So of course now he has to throw something up in the air to MAKE them swoop down at me! :scared1: Now if anyone mentions that there is a bat flying around - I AM SO OUT OF THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is anyone else scared of these creatures of the dark??!?!?!?

Not me. I think that they're fascinating and certain breeds even seem kind of cute to me. Sorry. :)

I LOVE bats! Mainly because they eat the blood-sucking mosquitos!

They ALL freak me out. Sorry....kittens are cute, puppies are cute - but BATS - NO WAY JOSE!!!

and you become a vampire when bitten by one

They get tangled in your hair; crawl down to your neck; bite you; voila .... you're a vampire :rolleyes1

I think they're really cute. I've only seen the mean face once when it was daytime and one was sleeping (upside down of course) under our deck. Brilliant me decided to shine a light on it, then the fangs came out. As long as they aren't messed with they're alright and can look pretty adorable.

A few years ago DH had a knee operation. I took really good care of him. Moved a bed downstairs & waited on him hand & foot. He had the black brace on his entire leg for 6 weeks. Week 3 a BAT gets in our Bed Room. I FREAK. I do not care if he is on bed rest. HE MUST GET THE BAT!

What a man I have. Climbs the stairs on crutches & catches that bat in mid air with his hand, wraps it in a towel & has DD releases it out side. :cloud9:

I used to do Animal Rehab. We had two baby Golden Bats delivered to us after the mother was killed. I had to catch insects and make 'baby bat formula' to feed them (with a tiny eyedropper). I managed to raise and release both of them ...

I've seen them fly over the pool at dusk as they headed into the woods behind our house. event hough you know they're harmless, they can be a bit spooky.

I'm not a big fan of them, but they only bother me if they're in my house. And yes, we've had many in our house before. That's what we get for living in the country
That being said in first or second grade my best friend and I used to climb up on to her father's tractor. We'd stand on the giant wheels, and put a pebble collection on the seat. Then we'd throw the pebbles up into the air but out away from us, and watch the bats chase them, since they *supposedly* sound like bugs to bats. So while I'm not a fan, I also haven't always gone to great lengths to avoid them

And yes, I now realize that my actions as a young child were stupid, and could have caused me to get hurt, but I was a 7 year old growing up in the sticks. The stuff I did then (like 12 years ago) still amazes me

Not to be a downer but not all bats are cute and docile, they can carry rabies. We had an incident a few years ago where at dusk 2 flew down and hit our chain link fence we just happened to be outside at the time and removed the dogs whom had run up to the fence to see what was going on,
thebbats were attacking each other and acting strange, so since
I'm a Vet Tech and I know enough to be dangerous :teeth: We decided sent them off for testing and they both came back positive for Rabies :scared1:

I can never look at bats the same again, they were vicious in that state.

Yes, bats can carry rabies. But it is not nearly as prevelent as it is in other mammels such as skunks and raccoons

Ok..I would have fainted. No question about it - I would have been out cold. :faint:

I don't like them, but both my sisters adore them.

I saw one last year at night as DS10 and neighbor were still outside playing basketball. Hadn't seen one in years down here.

One of my favorite things to do at my parent's house in Tenn. is sit outside at night and watch them fly over. But they make me nervous. Their property has several bat houses.

Oh man, you should have seen me when I went through the bat exhibit at Animal Kingdom. I went in not paying attention to what was inside. My jaw dropped and told my husband I was getting the heck outta there. He laughed at me then proceeded to take pictures of them :scared1::scared::faint: Now I have bat pictures in my honeymoon photo album.

eewwwww....can't STAND them!!!!

I remember once I was opening up our outdoor patio umbrella and one had made a home at the top....I had no idea until it flew out at me.

I FREAKED !!!!

I lost all common sense. The man was only getting up to use the bathroom he had a major operation... I did not care. I was in my room alone when it started to fly. I crawled on my hands & knees to get out. :yoda:
