I Hate Bats!!!!!!!!!!!

I lost all common sense. The man was only getting up to use the bathroom he had a major operation... I did not care. I was in my room alone when it started to fly. I crawled on my hands & knees to get out. :yoda:

:rotfl: That would have been me too - only I would have crawled with a sheet over me at the same time! LOL!

I used to do Animal Rehab. We had two baby Golden Bats delivered to us after the mother was killed. I had to catch insects and make 'baby bat formula' to feed them (with a tiny eyedropper). I managed to raise and release both of them ...

That is awsome! :thumbsup2 I love bats. I don't mind them swooping near my head b/c I know they only want to eat the insects trying to bite me.

I Love bats. Some nights my kids and I go out and throw grapes up into the air and watch them swoop for them.I also am looking to put a bat house up in my yard

Anything that eats bugs is welcome in my backyard.

I was sitting in my living room once nursing my youngest son when a bat flew down our chimney. It flew by so fast that I thought it was a bird till I heard it make that awful screeching noise. It flew down the hall towards my son's playroom and sheer panic set in. I ran down the hall (kid attached and all) to save DS#1. We locked ourselves in the nursery while I screamed for my DH to get it!!! DH had to swat it down with a broom. He knocked it down and then scooped it into a garbage can and then disposed of it.

A vet friend said that it was probably rabid and that is why it was so off of its usual flying pattern :scared1:

Needless to say - I HATE bats!!!!

I am terrified of bats, which is why when we lived in Texas, approximately 2 miles from one of the big bat caves, my husband didn't tell me. I lived in ignorant bliss for two years, until we were on our deck with some friends and commented on all the baby birds flying around.

Our friend looks at me like I was an crazy and says, "Um, those are bats." I don't think I have ever skedaddled from anywhere so quickly. :rotfl:

Ummm, you lived in "ignorant bliss" for two years ... and had NO problems. A friend told you they were bats ... and suddenly they were evil incarnate?

Am I missing something here? :confused3

I'm afraid of ANYTHING that flies! See my tag! If it has wings that could fly towards me....ewww!

i do like some bats, mainly wood bats. i think, however, that aluminum bats should be banned. they could hurt someone very badly.

Yes, I guess you are missing something. I lived in ignorant bliss because I believed they were little birds that flew around together. Once I found out they were bats it terrified me.

I don't think that is too hard to understand. :confused3

What has me confused is, they were fine up until you knew they were bats. They were exactly the same as the ones that had been fine for 2 years. Why should a correct ID change them from fine to evil?

We get bats in the house every summer. We live in a three story, hundred year old victorian and they come in through the chimneys, attic eaves or the doors that the kids are forever opening and closing at dusk.

I am not terrified of them when I see them outside, over the pool or the river. However, when I am least expecting it and see one swoop down from my ceiling fan, or off the side of the wall (they seem to like to cling to the brick) I do get a little panicked. Dh has gotten very good at picking them up and putting them outside. During the summer we actually keep a pool net and a pair of gloves handy in the house as we know to expect it. They cant be exterminated or professionally removed here as they are protected and the animal guy said there have only ever been 2 rabid bats total in the six county area we are in. The dumb things just want to get back outside. They really dont like it in the house :goodvibes

I keep thinking its that time of year again, but we havent gotten one inside yet. No matter how many holes we plug, they find a way.

Thats basically what i said earlier. Bats CAN get rabies, but it's not nearly as common in bats as it is in other wildlife. Raccoons and Skunks are particularly prone to get it ... and carry it.

A few years ago DH had a knee operation. I took really good care of him. Moved a bed downstairs & waited on him hand & foot. He had the black brace on his entire leg for 6 weeks. Week 3 a BAT gets in our Bed Room. I FREAK. I do not care if he is on bed rest. HE MUST GET THE BAT!

What a man I have. Climbs the stairs on crutches & catches that bat in mid air with his hand, wraps it in a towel & has DD releases it out side. :cloud9:

I am so glad to hear i wasn't the only one who done this to their husband after he had surgery. about a week after my husband had abdominal surgery. A big ole bat came flying into the living room. i crawled to the bedroom where DH was. He then proceed to go back to the living room with his pillow over his wound and a tennis racket in the other hand. took that bat down in the very first swing. DH has never let me forget the night he saved me while recovering from surgery.

If you had them around for two years and you were fine with them for that entire two years, why would a name change their status? They are still the same animal as that harmless one that has been there for two years. I would think that it would change the way you feel about bats, rather than change the way you feel about the "unknown, but harmless creatures".
