LOL...I was thinking the same thing till the OP said that all the decs started coming down., but, were those ppl asked to take them down or was a big group just checking out of the resort that took them down when they left?

There are markers formulated specifically for writing on glass. Not sure if the OP used those or not. My friend's kids had them, so I haven't ever tried to clean the color from the glass. It might wipe off pretty easily, or it might require some elbow grease.

HA! Elbow grease is an understatement on some of those window chalk things. We had our car done up (windows) Welllllll, I did the car up, last Sept. and the SO got to be the one to wipe it all off when we left...said like "Disney or bust" etc. so not really good for driving home
The stupid stuff was still on there 3 months later thru rain and snow in spots. Mind you this is made for car windows and sold at Wally World so it was not some off the wall brand.

We do small decs for ours to help me (and the kid) find the room quicker. Window clings and small objects set on the window sill. Do you know how many times I almost put my key in someone elses lock?

I really do think it was the window chalk. Super Magnets work great on the doors. I was able to hold a pretty weighty wipe off board up on there with them. Just a question, did you call the front desk and ask who left the message and why? Asking nicely of course.

Now there is an idea....or charge a $25.00 decorating fee for all guests choosing to decorate. And when they checkout if the window was cleaned up then they get a $25.00 refund.

I recognize that this is important to other Disney guests.

Logistically, there's no way to make this work.

Many guests use express checkout and never go to the front desk. Who knows at what point Mousekeeping gets to the room to check and see if the decorations were taken down properly to decide whether the fee should be charged at that time, or refunded because it was put down at check-in.

Then what happens if you want to contest the charge? You're already home, and have nothing to prove that you cleaned up.

I guess I'm not sure why this is so important. Its a hotel room, for goodness sakes. Its a place to lay your head at night and shower in the morning. Do you go to someone else's house and 'decorate' your door? Hang stuff in the windows?

Cause they all look alike and with my luck I would accidently use my key on the wrong door and it would work and I reallllllllly dont wanna walk in on BUBBA just out of the shower.
Makes it fun for the kids. Just to note....I dont go over board with 3000 stuffies in the windows or masses of ribbons and bows on the doors. More power to ya if you want to do that, just so I dont have to be the one to clean it all up and pack it away.

No flames intended, but I have to disagree. For some of us when we go to WDW even at our "hotel room", it is more than just a hotel room. And for many it is used as a time to celebrate something or someone special. And when I go to someone else's home I do not rent a room. I am not saying this entitles me to do whatever I want. But there is a difference just the same.

Not everyone has the same personality and thus many feel and act differently towards their time spent at WDW and it resorts/properties. Obviously you do not share the same feelings as many of us do toward our "Magical" time spent at the "Mouse's house". And that's fine. To each thier own. I just think it rather unnecessary to make some of the comments you have and down grade others feelings of celebration and such. Just my humble opinion.

Actually I share a lot of the same feelings that many of the DIS posters have about WDW. Its the most magical place in the world for me and my family, and I still get teary every single time I walk into the MK and see the Castle at the start of the trip, and teary again when we leave on the last day. Decorating a window doesn't mean someone loves Disney more than I do, because I don't decorate a window..

I only offered up my own opinion of the window decor, and mentioned why it must be a problem for both Mousekeeping and the maintenance CM's. There have been more than a few posters who complain about the poor appearance of their rooms, including dirty windows and chipped paint, and I can't help but think that its not all Disney's fault...blame has to be spread to folks who think its okay to tape stuff up and write on windows.

If some of you are cleaning up after yourselves, then that's terrific. If you're using paint-safe adhesives even better. But my guess is that there are more folks who are just using whatever they have laying around the house, or buying cheap adhesives and then not being as concerned about cleaning up.

I let my kids decorate our windows at home with window markers for holidays. I have found it is very difficult to fully remove all the residue from the markers. After washing with windex and paper towel 1 time it appears clean, but if you look closely there is a still a residue on the window. It needs to be cleaned several time before it is actually all clean. If it is your first time using window markers you may not realize you are leaving that residue behind.

I guess I did not give markers a second look because they were washable and designed for use on chalkboards and glass. They came off with water, but a mousekeeper just walking by would not have known that.
We were staying at the All Star Sports, and were there for Magic Music Days.
Must be something with that resort, or the manager in charge during our stay.

I stayed at AS Sports this past Dec and decorated my window and door for Christmas. I didn't write on the windows, though. I used a blue and white polar bear-penguin theme. I used suction hooks to put a string of blinking blue Christmas lights around the window. I then hung a giant silver glitter snowflake in the middle by a little suction cup, then surrounded it with 'penguins playing in the snow' and blue/silver snowflakes window clings and then hung polar bear ornaments with suction cup hooks on the glass. I then placed fake snow on the window sill with about 10 little ceramic penguins and some little 6"-8" fake silver trees scattered around on it. On the door I had one of those big vinyl door decorations with penguins decorating a Chrismas tree on it, that lit up and played a Christmas song anytime anyone walked by it (worked via a motion sensor). I then stuck different colored Mickey Heads all over the tree covering up the ornaments, so it looked like it was decorated with Mickey heads, instead of balls. I had two different housekeepers tell me how much they loved my decorations.

I got to talking to the first housekeeper and in the course of the conversation, I asked her if Disney had a problem with us decorating our windows and doors, since I usually did it every trip. She told me no, not as long as we clean up everything when we left. Also during the conversation she said that one of the reasons she loved my room was because she loved and collected penguins. I laughed and told her I did too, but I already had a bunch of them at home and was dreading carrying my ceramic ones back with me. I asked her if she would like to have them. She got really excited, but then said they weren't allowed to just take anything left in the rooms. Anything like that they would have to be turned in. I offered to write a note saying I was leaving them for her. She got really excited again and said she would ask her supervisor if she would then be able to keep them. However, I never saw her after that. I mentioned it to the second housekeeper and she said they probably would not be allowed to keep them. Again this was at AS Sports in Dec. Two different housekeepers said they didn't have a probably with anyone decorating and in fact enjoyed looking at everyone's decorations.

I was at POFQ in May and decorated my window for the Flower Festival with a bunch of flower window clings and different colored Home Depot Mickey Heads that was hanging down by curly ribbon streamers. I had clear blinking lights around the window hung on little suction cup hooks. For the door, I had cut out a bunch of lime green Mickey Heads and glued magnets on the back so they'd stick to the door. Again I didn't use anything that would damage the glass or door though. Again I always clean up the night before we leave. I even carry a little 3 oz travel size spray bottle with windex in it. Those windows are cleaner when we leave than they are when we arrive.

We must be using two totally different types of markers. These came off with just water and no elbow grease at all! I got mine from Michael's. They are called Chalk Ink Wet Wipe Markers. You should check them out, they are great!

I will have to try the ones from michael's. Mine are Crayola window fx washable markers. They are a huge pain to clean up after. Last time I had thought I got all the residue. Then I had a woman help me clean house before a big family party. When she washed the windows she asked me who smoked in our house because she thought there was nicotine on the windows. We don't smoke. I realized it was more residue left from the markers.

My guess is the writing too... Common sense needs to be used in how we decorate and what we use to decorate I suspect... clings and posters are one thing.. actually writing on the window, in my opinion, is something else.

I was at all star movies 8/20-8/25 I decorated my windows with cut outs using suction cups to hang them. I had no problems. Mousekeeping even added to it everyday.

I'm thinking of the potential fire hazard of these decorations, especially the tree lights! I guess I'm sensitive to this because of the tough fire code regulations in my state (RI) - for example, there are very specific guidelines for schools and what can be hung in a classroom.
While I can appreciate someone taking time and effort to decorate their room (something I have never seen at my Disney stays and something I would never do), I wouldn't want to be sleeping next door to a potential fire hazard!

I would think that if Disney felt they were a fire hazard they would advise the guests that this is a no-no. I don't see how it is different than hanging lights in your own home. Do you think that folks do something odd with the lights that would expose guests to an abnormally hazardous situation?

After our phone call, I noticed that all the decorations started disappearing, even window clings and things attached with suction cups.

You just had to say All Star Sports, didn't you? Cause, that is where we are staying this October. And I just purchased some neat Halloween window clings last night. Along with some black, orange, and lime green construction paper to make Mickey heads out of.

Can anyone who has been to ASSp lately confirm this new rule? Is management making everyone take down all decorations?

Boy, I've heard that some Dissers decorate their rooms/windows/doors but have never seen even one room decorated in all my visits to WDW! We always stay at CBR, do they decorate there, too? I think it would be pretty cool to see them, a fun welcome sight on the way back to our room that you look forward to seeing each day/night! Kind of like at Xmas time when you get excited to see all the neighbors Xmas lights and drive around to see everything once in a while.

Anyway, where can I find disney window clings? I've seen them at Xmas time, and even halloween in the past, but we'll be there in mid Nov, just before Thanksgiving, so those wouldn't work. I don't know that I'd do much decorating, maybe clings, and I do like lights, or maybe a couple stuffies in the windows, but I really wouldn't want to have to clean up a ton of stuff. It's depressing enough to have to go home, without having to take down a bunch of decorations. But, I was surprised to read that some have seen others don't always take down streamers, tape, etc. If you put anything up you must take everything down, leave it as you found it, wonder why anyone would think any differently?

Anyway, hope I see some decorations this year!

Plus it takes time to put them up and take them down and then clean up. I have other things to do while on vacation.

If I was going to be there for a major holiday- say Christmas, I'd probably bring along a little tree- more for my kids than myself. But the rest of it just seems kind of silly?? Like the stuff you see in college dorms.
It really does nothing for me- looks pretty tacky- and detracts from the overall look of the resort. I'm surprised it has been allowed at all.
Decorate your own homes and enjoy the decoration in your room for what it is. Disney spent a lot of money designing those resort rooms- enjoy the scenery!

I like to decorate my room windows, and I like to see what other people have done with theirs. I don't think it looks tacky. I think it is fun and cute. I don't spend forever putting my stuff up, but I pretty much stick to window clings and mickey heads.
