The total was $525. I sold mostly girls clothing and toys. I did have a few tings that I got on rebate for free also, but they went in the first 5 minutes.
I put that money aside for our trip in 2008. I'm trying to get enough money together without having to dip into savings. I still have a year to do it and have already collected $1,100. that will almost pay for half the trip. Thanks for all the ideas for earning and saving money. I don't post too often, but am always reading your ideas.

Wow, that's great! The weather is still a little too cold here in Chicago, but I'd like to have a garage sale next month. Should add a little bit of $$ to our WDW fund.

Great job! I am having a yard sale in a few weeks and hope to do that well. I usually clear about that, but I generally have some larger items to round out the clothes and toys. This time, it's mostly clothes and toys and household stuff, so I almost skipped the yard sale and donated it all. But then I figured, every little bit helps, so even if I make $50 for Disney, I'll be happy :)

That's great!:thumbsup2 We are having a yard sale in June to earn spending money for our July trip. I hope we are as successful as you were!

COngrats! we are having one next month and I have loooads of clothes!
I seperate them into all different sizes and seasons and keep them grouped like that so people can look through them easier :)

DH usually takes off the day b4 the sale to help get everythign ready :)

Couple of questions for you tag/yard sale pros.....
1. How do you advertise? Best way to get 'customers'???
2. Do you price everything ahead of time? Or just name a price when people ask?

I have SO much put aside to sell (did a lot of it last summer and got overwhelmed), but just can't seem to take the plunge. Been selling some kids clothes on ebay, but there's so much more I could sell in a tag sale.

Hit me with your best advice!!

THANKS!

Yes i price EVERYTHING and i have a FREE box that sits at the end of the driveway :)

I put my big things that i know will draw people in near the end of the driveway too! Stroller/cribs/pack n plays/rockers that sort of thing :)

I do advertise and they way i alwaaaaaays have people waiting for me to officially open is in the advertisement i list my biggie items.

I always get people b/c i sell some last season or older COACH or DOONEY bags that i don't use as much anymore and then i say LOTS of BABY STUFF :) people always come for that :)

I do sell a lot of boutique dresses and Gymboree. I sold stuff on ebay, but the only things that sold well were the NWT items, so I decided to have the yard sale. I sold Gymboree and Good Lad seperates for $1 and dresses for $3. Everything else was $1 for dresses and 50 cents for seperates. I still have a bunch of wintery clothes to sell this summer or fall. i did sell our crib for $50, so that was my big item. I put together prize packs of Happy Meal and Birthday party treats and sold them for $1 each. They were in the big plastic pretzel containers from Sams. I tried 10 cent boxes. that didn't go as well as the prize packs, so I'll do that next time as well.
I had it the after the checks came out for the first of the month, as more people come around here during this time.
It was about 85 degrees here on Saturday, so we had a great day.

That sounds wonderful!

We are having a yard sale within the next few months and we are so excited. :)

I have tons of mcd's toys.. tell me more about your prize packs.. I don't know what you are meaning by pretzel bags?

i think she means the large pretzel tubs that are sold at SAMS club :) they have pretzel rods in them, but once your kids eat them all (like mine) you are left with these large tubs! what a great idea OP!!

I try to do a yard sale once every two or three years. Even with big stuff to sell and good advertising, I never make more that $150 or so. Around here, nobody is willing to spend anything, even for really nice or new things. I have had brand new nice pocketbooks for sale at like $5 apiece, with the tags reading much higher, and have ladies come up and ask me if I will sell for $1. I always say "No, I'm sorry but if you are not willing to pay the price listed, I get more in the tax deduction for donating to the Salvation Army than selling it to you at that much of a discount. If you want to try to buy it at Salvation Army after I donate it, I'm sure it will be only slightly more expensive than what I have it listed for." I am not by nature a rude person, but when I go to yard sales, I don't try to gip the seller out of a realistic asking price on items. I have tried to sell beautiful, almost new girls clothing...gap, old navy, etc, and people won't even look at it unless you charge $.25 per piece. Very frustrating. :sad2:

This spring we are taking a trip to NYC to American Girl for DD's 10th birthday. She has been saving up a lot of toys and things to sell in a yard sale. I really don't want to go to the bother, but she can't wait, so I guess we'll be giving it another try toward the end of May. I think I will go around the neighborhood and see if any other families want to get in on a "neighborhood" yard sale. Those go over big around here.

That's great!! You're on a role:thumbsup2 I only hope to do that well!! I'm having a garage sale the first weekend in May. The weather is just starting to get nice. Well, it keeps going from 80 degrees to 45, then back again! So hopefully the weather will straighten out by then!!

I usually have a garage sale every year with my Mom and a bunch of other friends and relatives. All together we make around $2000.

Next month I am going in with a friend as they have a community garage sale every year for the their city. It is huge. People come from all over to go to these sales - cars lined up and down every street through out the town. So, I am really excited to be doing this (she's the one who lives in the town - I am a few miles away but in a different town).

I'm hoping to make some extra vacation money too. (for a cruise this time and not Disney though)

Someone else posted about doing bags of stuff for the kids. I do this also. I put together grab bags. I use lunch bags and then put in a bunch of different little things that we are cleaning out (Happy Meal toys, stickers, superballs, hair things etc) and then I label the bags either for a girl or boy. Last year, I think I had 20 of them. Marked them at $1 each. Got rid of all of them. Made $20 on just junk things I would have thrown away and the kids just loved them - some came back for more. It was fun.

Our neighborhood has one the first weekend in June every year. I usually only make a couple hundred, but then I never think about setting things aside until the sign goes up in May. This year I have been collecting all year. My bedroom looks like a garage sale because we did a massive clean out in January. I'm hoping to clear quite a bit more this time around to put towards our debt payoff.

Thanks for the great ideas and tips!

You guys are getting my psyched for our sale this May!

I am hoping to clear $500 towards our trip. Those kids bags sound fun.

I wish I could have mine the first weekend of the month, but of course, I wasn't ready this past weekend, next weekend is Easter, I graduate the first weekend in May:yay: :cheer2: , and we will be IN DISNEY the first weekend in June:dance3: . So mine will either be April 20-21 or (most likely) April 27-28.
