in quite some time. It sure makes me glad I have DVC. My BIL is planning a trip to WDW and wanted me to help him find a place to stay. The prices have jumped a good bit since we joined DVC in 2006. The values are around what the moderates were and the moderates are what the lower deluxe prices were.

MY BIL wants the impossible of course. He'd like more than just a regular room if possible, he wants to be able to walk to some of the parks and doesn't want to spend too much!!:rotfl::laughing::lmao: The offsite rooms he'd looked at were $119 for a regular room and $169 for a suite. I think I am going to suggest an offsite 2 BDR condo or villa. That would give him two of the three criteria, bigger room with lower price.

I had thought about suggesting renting points but he is planning on going in a month and i'm not sure what we could find.

Rack rates really have gotten astronomical. Really that's one of the main reasons we bought DVC. Previously we typically stayed at deluxe resorts, but in the past we were able to get some great discounts on them. Those discounts brought the prices down to a more reasonable level, but then they stopped being as readily available (of course you can get some good rates now, but the economy will improve again and those discounts will dry up). So once DVC built at AKL (our favorite resort), we joined to fix our prices for years to come.

There is no way our family could afford the Deluxe Resorts without DVC. We just checked online how much it would cost us for a 2 Bedroom Villa, Savannah View in Kidani Village during Value Season. Room, Base Tix & DDP almost $9,000.00 (not including airfare) :scared1:

Many times I've gotten a really good price at the Vistana Resort Lake Buena Vista on Hotel Kingdom. I still stay ther or Cypress Pointe also in LBV when my points are getting low and my addiction needs to be fed.:lmao:

This is exactly why we bought DVC! We were slated to spend 10k plus in September 2009 so it was a no brainer to buy DVC for us!

I almost hate to mention it, but have you checked out the Swolphin? (Swan/Dolphin). I know their prices are fairly reasonable, Disney speaking, and they are considered "deluxe" resorts. With walking distance to Epcot and DHS.

Just a thought.

I think you are referring to June and it's quite booked up!
I could never afford rack rates, even with all of the specials Disney is running!

Just some advice for off site. We spent one night at Floridays recently prior to checking in at DVC. It is a really nice resort.

I would rate the room quality as above that of DVC, perhaps just because it is new. There is no table service restaurant, but a nice bar and pool area where you can order light food.

We had a three bedroom, which is only about 1,200 square feet, so it's not a grand villa. The cost was $199. A two-bedroom would have cost something like $159. We were all impressed and would stay again.
