I got my military guy!

TwinMom7- Do you have to send everything in a box? Can you send things in one of those large manilla envelopes? I want to send magazines, and they would fit better in one of those envelopes.

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions. I'm enjoying participating in this project. :D

Oh, of course!! That would be fine for magazines and MUCH easier/cheaper to mail. You also wouldn't have to use a customs declaration form for that either.

Just remember (as far as magazines) - no Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition! You have to be VERY careful about anything with bikinis, etc. because of the Muslim country.;)

Could someone with more experience with the Navy tell me what a CTR3 is? I am totally not familiar with that and I'd like to know :)
I found this on the US Navy website --
Cryptologic Technician (CT): CTs control the flow of messages and information. Their work depends on their special career area: administration (CTA) - administrative and clerical duties that control access to classified material; interpretive (CTI) - radiotelephone communications and foreign language translation; maintenance (CTM)- the installation, servicing and repair of electronic and electromechanical equipment; communication (CTO) - operation of telecommunications systems, and AIS networking and information management; collection (CTR) - Morse code communications and operation of radio direction-finding equipment; and technical (CTT) - communications by means other than Morse code and electronic countermeasures.

How is it that people are getting the same soldier?

Are more people signing up to sponsor than soldiers signing up to be sponsored?

Sydally9367 - I have the exact same soldiers as yours. I received their names yesterday morning.
JohnTBap - I think my daughter may have the same chaplain (Daniel Rutherford).
It seems they are duplicating all of the names.

I tried to sign up but I'm not sure it worked....I filled out the name and address and email form...it forwarded it to an email format with no TO: address it won't let me send....do I need to do something different???

That's the one I used.....I might end up with tons of guys/gals....I think I resent it 3 times because I wasn't sure it worked...LOL

LOL, zurgswife! :teeth:

TwinMom7- I figured you could use the manilla envelopes, but I just wanted to check. I'm thinking it may get there a little faster as well. Here is another dumb question- one of my soldiers requested a certain type of coffee for her and her unit. I couldn't find any of that type of coffee that is instant. Also, on the OMP site it lists microwave popcorn as an item to include in care packages. Do those in Kuwait with electricity have the microwaves and coffee pots or other ways to fix those items? Is it hot enough there for the popcorn to pop itself? Please excuse my ignorance. I know absolutely nothing about surviving in a desert (although Texas feels like one during the summer).;):teeth:

I believe that some of the bases (that have been there a little longer) do have microwaves, etc. If they're asking for it, they must have the ability to use it.

Hope that helps.

Zurgswife-
I also got the email pop-up. But mine did list a 'TO:' address. What did you do with your email pop-up??

Did anyone else get this???

And why are people getting the same people to send care packages??
Does this sound wrong to anyone else???

Does this sound wrong to anyone else???

No, it does not sound wrong to me. Several soldiers are signing up and representing their entire unit. For example, it says one of mine represents 60 deployed members. I like the fact that what I send will benefit more than one soldier. I also like the fact that others are sending to the same person. I alone can't send enough for 60 people, but several of us can. I'm sure they like to receive support from many people, even if it is just a card or letter. :D

J&D,
Exactly what I was thinking.
It would be difficult for me to send everything these kids need.
It is nice to know that some of my DIS Friends will be sending to the same unit.
We can make a united effort to help everyone!

I can't wait until I am feeling better to be able to go get some of the things they need.

Lisajl

Mine didn't have a TO address.....and nothing in my email bin yet...I'll keep looking...

J&D -
That makes sense to me, 60 troops is a lot of mouths to feed and soldiers comfort.:) I didn't think of it that way. Thank you for enlightening me!:)
I wonder if other people's requests from soldiers also indicated that they were representing many others too.

I got my guy today!!
SSG Carlos Rivas
82nd Airborne
He is going to share with 80 deployed military persons.
They asked for music CD's, can I send them ones that are burned?
Gotta get over to Walmart now.Be right back.
