I just received the name of a service member through Operation Military Pride! I'm really excited, I can't wait to pick him up some things this weekend! His title (I believe) is SPC. Does anyone know what that stands for or what part of the military he would be in?

Another question, one of his requests was dehydrated fruit & veggies, the restrictions for his APO says no fruit. Would that apply to dried fruit too?

SPC stands for Specialist. As for the dried fruits, I'm not sure.

How long did it take you to get your name? I signed up last night and can't wait to become involved!

I signed up yesterday after work! :teeth: He wants toilet paper! Poor guy!

I signed up earlier today. I hope we get our names soon. I remember how great it was to get care packages when I was in the Marine Corps. I can't wait to send ours out. My DD wants to add some pictures she drew and DS wants to send some of his Hot Wheels...I think I might just let him! What else really can a 6 y/o send that means so much to him?

I also requested the name of a serviceman yesterday afternoon but still have not received a response. :( Well, in the meantime, I have my "adopted" Bobby & Nick who will receive a package from me! I hope to send one each month.

DS wants to send some of his Hot Wheels
How sweet. What a kind-hearted little man you have raised. I'm sure the recipient would enjoy receiving them. :D

I asked this on another thread -- how do you request a name? Maybe I'm just tired, but I looked all over the thread and didn't see where it can be done? Thanks.

I got my service men names tonight too! I sent my request yesterday. I got two names, one person only asked for candy but the other person asked for toiletries. In fact they wrote they were in "dire need"! I'm going to costco tomorrow so maybe I'll get some stuff there and then hit the dollar store.

Dried fruit is fine to send - just not fresh fruit. I've also found little cans of fruit, with pull top lids.

Toilet paper is a HOT commodity right now!!!

My son went the first three weeks of his sand pit existance without running water or electricy. Just think how that tent of 80 guys must have smelled??!!:(

Anyway, from what we heard this week they now have electricity, running water and a mobile PX, so things are a little more bearable. :D

Another thing we learned today is that they may be on the "move" soon - and we all know what that means. If that's the case, then your mail/package will "sit" at the base camp until your soldier returns from "up north", as my son puts it.

I'll try and answer any other questions I can, so feel free to ask away!

On the web site, OMP, when it asks for your name, email address, etc., what do they mean by 'requests'?? Are they referring to a particular branch of military you would like a soldier from to send care packages too OR is for something else I'm just not understanding???

Bunchkin, I just put that I wanted two soldiers. I think you can request male/female or army/navy, etc.

I sent in a request yesterday too, but when they e-mail back will it say Operation Military Pride? I get soooooo much junk mail that I just quickly skim for things I recognize, then I delete everything else. I don't want to miss this one!

No, my email said Arylen something.

I guess she is in charge of handing out names!

It is so nice to see everyone getting involved in this.

No matter what our views are on the war, those men and women(some of them kids) need our help.
