I got hit by a cop car today!

And don't settle for anything until go get a clean bill of health from the doctor.

I'm sorry you were hurt and it sounds like you were mighty lucky that it wasn't much worse. I hope you feel a lot better real fast.

I may be wrong, but I believe police officers are told never to admit fault if they are in an accident -- the same thing your own insurance company tells you. If he said he was sorry, that could be interpreted as admitting fault and then the city gets sued up the wah-zoo. He should have at least said, "Are you okay?"

Did you reported this to the insurance company that covers the city police officers?

I agree with this, it's not nice, but it's probably what the cop was thinking.

OP, I'm sorry you were hit. I hope you will still be able to enjoy your trip.

Take care!

Thanks everyone...I am just really sore today, but I know by the time my trip comes I'll be ready to go :goodvibes

How could he "not see" a pedestrian in front of his car?? Its not like he clipped her heel. He hit her hard enough to throw her onto his hood. Sounds like there's something fishy about this cop. I hope that he's been placed on leave until this is investigated.

You said you were "almost to the crosswalk" when you were hit. Is it possible you could have been in a blind spot? Before you crossed in front of him, did you notice if he was distracted in any way? There have been cops around here who have been spotted yacking on their cell phones (illegal in this state) or texting on them. I will not cross in front of any car, stop sign or not unless I know they see me.

I hit a pedestrian once. She ran out from in front of a parked van and I didn't have time to stop. She was looking the other way at a friend across the street. I wanted to call 911 but she and her friend ran off. I have a feeling she was not legally in the country. I called the local precinct that day to ask if I should file a police report anyway and they said I could if it made me feel better. And then they told me that this happens daily to the cops because of all the jaywalking in that town. People running out into the streets not paying attention. I am not saying the OP did that, just to watch out for the Cops in Hoboken, NJ since they seem to hit people daily.

While not excusing the cop in any way, I think saying there is something fishy about him is a bit extreme. It was an accident and thankfully OP was not seriously hurt.

Sorry, but I feel that a cop not paying attention to his surroundings is fishy.

you know, he could have been watching someone in the parking lot, maybe looking for people breaking in cars? or perhaps he was looking for a stolen car,

in other words, maybe he was looking at something else. and he was getting ready to move if he saw something, so when he pulled up the car may have been clear to proceed.

you really don't know.

but I agree with some of the other posters, before moving the car you should at least glance around to make sure your are still in the clear to move.

and I am sure the internal investigation will shed some light on it.

Wow, very scary! I'm glad you weren't more seriously hurt! Motrin will be your friend for a few days. We have a big problem with the cops around here on cell phones while driving. There is no way they'd pass a no cell phone while driving here, the cops wouldn't support it! My dh has talked to a city councilman about this problem in person, so it is a problem the city is aware of.
