Last night was my first night at my new job. I am exhausted, but I really enjoyed it.
I got a job working for an auction company. During the week, I have to inventory and label items for the auction catalog - and I can do this whenever it is convenient to me, like when the kids are in school, or evenings when dh is home. Last night I had to work from 4-8pm, because that was when someone was free to train me, but otherwise, I can choose my own hours, so long as the work gets done.
Then on Saturdays, which is the day of the auction, I have to work all day - from 8 am to 4 or 5pm.
The pay is very good for this area ($15/hr plus mileage to and from the house that is being auctioned).
The only bad part is that they don't have an auction every week - so one month I might work one week, the next month four weeks, the next month 2 weeks, etc. But since I was only looking for a part time job anyway, I think it will still work out.
But the owner of the company seems to like me, and has suggested I might be able to move up to being an auction manager; and that the company even pays to send you to auctioneering school if you are interested and they think you'd do well.
Everyone has always told me I talk way too fast, so maybe auctioneer is the perfect job for me!
The best part is seeing all the cool stuff for sale. Right now, I am doing an auction of the contents of a model home - lots of nice furniture and decorator knickknacks.
