I know there are a lot of people on this board that have been looking for work, just like me, so I had to share the news that after 2 years and a month, I finally got a job!! I got laid off from my job in 2010, september 15 was my last day. I decided to take some time before I started looking for a job since I had severance and an infant at the time.

I started REALLY looking about 15 months ago. I have applied to well over 300 positions that I felt I was highly qualfied for. I had at least one interview with 11 different companies, many of them multiple interviews lasting many hours. Most of them never even let me know I wasn't chosen...

Last month while on our fall Disney trip, I got a call from another recruiter about a temp job that sounded really familiar. It's my friend's job - she works at my old company and is about to have her first child. It's taken 2 meeting and 3 1/2 weeks, but I just got the call that I will be her temp replacement! :worship: :worship::banana: Money is getting really tight (by our standards) around here and I've been more than a little concerned. I am beyond excited, as will be my ds who LOVES daycare! (he's not quite 3, so all he knows is he gets to play with kids ALL DAY!)

While this job is only about 4.5 months, it pays good, I know the people and the company, and it gets my resume current! I just wanted to give everyone else out there some hope and share my thanks for all the encouragement and entertainment here on the dis that has gotten me thru when it felt like I would never find another job. Just a couple of days until I start!

Congrats on the job -good for you. I agree with you regarding notification after going through the interview process -it's too bad that companies are running so short-staffed that they can't make a courtesy call. But that's the way it is with most places now.

Congrats! It's always great when someone finally manages to get back into the workforce. Go you!

Sayhello

Congratulations,
It may only be a temporary job but as you say it keeps your resume current and it's easier to find a job when you have one. So many folks have been out of work for the past 4 years. You kept looking and eventually your hard work paid off. Give yourself a great big pat on the back. Do the happy dance!pixiedust::banana:

Congratulations! So happy for you and I'm sure you will look real snappy on your first day. Don't forget to let us know how the first day goes! :goodvibes

Congrats on the good news. It's nice to hear good stories of people landing employment. I just started my second stint as a temp employee with a big firm. They offered me a full time position but the pay was so much lower I couldn't accept it. Thankfully my spouse has employment with benefits but it has put a lot of things in our lives on hold. We haven't used our DVC points in two years but continue to hold on to our ownership in hopes that things will turn for the better. Does anyone else have a story of success to share?

Just checking in...

Did you start yet? How'd it go? :goodvibes

The background check and paperwork is going incredibly slow, so I don't actually start until Monday morning. I hope her baby doesn't come early since it will nay be 2.5 weeks until her due date. The plan was to have her replacement in there October 1. At least I wont need as much time as someone who has never worked the, but I don't want to be improvising either!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone!
