I was wondering if you saw all the insults equivalently. that is, if you saw that calling Kerry a flipflopper or Clinton "slick willie" exactly the same as calling Bush either Hitler, Saddam, and/or OBL.

It seemed, from your answer, that to you all insults were equally unwelcome. While that may or may not be true, I wanted to know if some could be judged to be worse than others. . .namely the examples I gave.

Thanks!

Yes some insults are worse then others. Obviously anyone comparing Bush to Hitler is going below the belt and then some. I do not condone such insults.

In addition though I also don't think that any insult is really a good one. And it is amazing to me that people feel the need to do it constantly in politics.

Happy?

Note the implied coreleation.

How many of you have seen the red/blue map of the US coded by county? There's not a north/south (slave state/fee state) divide , there's primarily an urban/rural divide, which has a long tradition in the US.

All of you on the left need to take a look at the county blue/red map. Once you do, you will quit harping on how the South is full of morons and racist wannabeslaveowners. The real breakdown, politically, is rural vs urban. Democrats win states in the midwest, west coast, and northeast because those regions have population that is more highly concentrated in the larger cities, and have cities that are somewhat more politically homogenous. For example, PA is not a blue state so much as Philadelphia and Pittsburg are extremely blue. The rest of the state is extremely red. click on county by county map...shows a much different picture. In fact much of Kerry's support came from slave states especially the major cities where slaves were sold and traded. Those areas went big for Kerry. Slave towns like Atlanta, Richmond overwhemingly voted for Kerry.

Maybe we should use this map: http://www.popvssoda.com/countystats/total-county.html "Soda" drinkers are almost certainly Democrats, while "Coke" drinkers vote Republican. The "pop" drinkers are a bit more evenly split. ;)

I'm a happy person, in general. And, I'm in a happy marriage, I have three very healthy and happy wonderful children, I have a happy life, and many things that I'm grateful for, so yes, thank you, i'm happy.

I'm gratified, however, to see that you and a couple other Democrats aren't as extreme as many have shown themselves to be over the past several months. I think that's wonderful and I think you are actually the future of the Democratic party. Being able to see that not everything is equivalent is a positive attribute, in my opinion.

I hope you're happy, too, Amanda!

Psst! dmadman!

Time to get out your Crayolas, and color Iowa red. It officially went to Bush this past weekend, by about 14,000 votes.

You know, it just keeps getting worse and worse. Some people need to grow up. Yes Kendra, I mean you.

Anyway, continue on with your bating of yet another person. Funny how we are cross referencing threads now. :o

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughtful opinion. It's much appreciated. I disagree with you. And, I will file your post under "mild nuisance".

Dang, I wanted to be more than just a mild nuisance. I guess I have to work harder.

I thought so. . . that's why I couldn't believe so many of you guys took such an issue (oops!) with LauraJean for offering such a benign suggestion.

Context, as I imagine you know, has a major impact on just how silly any comment can be. In a lighthearted exchange, saying that to one who is complaining about a minor irritation would likely be interpreted by those in the exchange as a silly way to convey what this smilie does :charac2:. OTOH, if one person is expressing real emotions and another makes such a comment (especially when that other is not a friend of the OP), the comment is not silly - it is flippant.

Well, I do agree with you. But, still, it was mild in the grand scheme of back and forth comments, I thought. I still do. Flippant? yes. Mild and benign? Yes, too, I thought.

Out of all the slinging back and forth, I thought that, by far, one of the most mild comments made. Even in that context it seemed benign.

People have said REALLy nasty things. If everyone would have just said, all along, "got an issue? get a tissue" rather than all the other things that were said, I think everyone would have felt more positive.

Let's face it, you're opinion isn't going to change nor is mine. Why waste more bandwidth arguing it. Seems to me there are so much more important things to argue - such as should the paper fall from the top of the toilet paper roll in the front or in the back...

I used to think the paper should fall from the back, but we now have it fall from the front. I guess I made the conversion after I got married. :p
