I don't know why, nothing has ever happened (knocking wood), but I'm always nervous to order fish in a restaurant on vacation.

We are going to California Grill and this sounds divine:

Wild Alaskan Halibut
Saffron Bomba Rice, Chorizo, Salsa Veracruz, Romanesco, Fava Bean

Tell me to stop being ridiculous and order the fish! :fish:

Also - halibut is a mild fish, right? I don't like salmon.

Yes, halibut is a mild flavored, white fish similar to flounder.

ETA: That dish sounds awesome. :)

The only meat I will eat is fish or shellfish, so I order a LOT of fish at WDW. I've never had a bad experience. Are you worried about not liking the dish or afraid you will get sick while on vacation?

I eat mostly fish and admit I like it all - though in public I avoid very bony full fish for danger of having to remove bones from my mouth!

I am the same way! I don't know why. I like some fish, but not all of it that I've tried. I don't like fishy fish. I've had salmon and I only like it if it has a sweet glaze on it, otherwise it's a tad too fishy for me. I wanted to try mahi mahi recently and decided to give it a go. It was amazing at the restaurant we went to! It had a Cajun seasoning and a tropical tartar sauce. I'm craving it now! I must say, I'm glad I'm not alone in this affliction ;)

Avoid your fears and face the challenge; go to Flying Fish and speak to Master Chef Tim M. (he is there on most nights). He is solely responsible for re-imagining the new FF (sans Cafe). I fully assure you, this is the best seafood/fish signature restaurant in all of Disney World property.

The choice is yours; pay for the view or the taste, experience and service. We opted for the latter and have zero regrets.

Halibut is a mild, white, and "not fishy" fish. It has a more solid texture like swordfish, which is another delicious fish.

When you are not sure, ask your server! They want you to have a great time and enjoy your dinner

You can ask, really. Folks from areas where certain fish is not common, it is perfectly ok to say I am not familiar with this fish. Can you tell me about it?

Especially at the signatures, food is prepared with ingredients or styles you may have never experienced. And that is ok. Your server can help guide you when ordering

At one time, narcoossee had a fish they served whole. Literally. Always good to Ask!

Getting sick and I don't know why! But now I'm also worried about bones... ;)

I am the same way, but oddly I will ONLY order salmon at a restaurant! And I always ask that it be cooked well done - which always causes a little brow raising, but I figure if I ask that, they will at least make sure it is cooked.

Fish bone stuck in the throat is second on my list of bad ways to die. First? A Great White . . .

Exactly what I was going to say. Tastes more like swordfish than flounder, IMO. I think flounder tastes more like sea bass (which isn't bass at all....lol).

Halibut is my favorite ocean fish. Mild, meaty and lends itself to many preparations. Just don't accept an overcooked portion (it will be dry, not flakey). Being from the northern Midwest, Walleye is my favorite.

Halibut is a type of flounder (flatfish). The meat is more dense than a "flounder" (what you'd see listed on a menu). It is mild, but I think it has a distinct taste that I'm not particularly fond of (it's not terrible but I don't order it if I have a choice) - although I grew up halibut fishing in Alaska and hated every second of it, so I'm probably biased. Most people I know like it (it's always a big hit when friends and family visit AK).

I get nervous with fish too and I don't know why. I am always afraid it will be undercooked or something. I did get sick after eating salmon at Disney, but it was at abc commissary. Lesson learned. I would totally trust cali grill.
