I gave in and made ADRs

I'm not very happy about it since I'm used to not having to do so, but this site terrifies me sometimes and I don't want my BF to miss out on a few of my favorites I've been talking up. So I emailed Don at AKL IPO today and made the following. I found myself getting so incredibly annoyed at having to think up times and what not, that I just asked IPO to pick the times for me...

9/10. Plane lands at 2 pm. With no checked luggage assume we'll be at AKL by 3 pm. No parks this day. Dinner at Jiko at 5:35. :thumbsup2 This was the main one I was concerned about. I dream of Jiko...

9/11. Sadly, we have to move to the Dolphin today. But IPO still was kind enough to make the ADRs so I wouldn't have to make another call. Lunch at Marrakesh at 1:00. People hate on Marrakesh all the time, personally I could eat here every day and be thrilled. :lovestruc Dinner this day is kind of a wash because BF absolutely MUST be at ESPN Club to watch a soccer game at 7:30. :scared1: After that, PI.

9/12 Mickets Not So Scary Halloween Party!
Not sure where we will be during the day. Would like to have some pool time, and some downtown time. BF wakes up at the crack of dawn. I wake up at the crack of...10? Anyway, we are eating at Tony's Town Square at 2:05. I adore Lady & the Tramp. Meals here generally filling enough to last a while. Later will hit the Halloween Party and grab CS if we get hungry. I don't like any of the other TS places in MK. In fact, might consider switching this to a later lunch at one of the resorts but not sure. I do love my L&tT. :D

9/13 Sci-Fi Diner at 1:30. Assume we'll be hanging out at the pool or at MGM most of the morning. Or will go back to pool after lunch for a bit before Fantasmic. I have no desire to do the Fantasmic dining, I much prefer to take a book and just get there really early. It's a nice break. After Fantasmic we plan to go downtown and check out the bar at the House of Blues and also maybe hit PI again.

9/14 The only planned meal I have is Rose & Crown pub for dinner at 7:50. However, the only reason I want this is to sit outside and watch the fireworks. This has never actually been a problem for me in the past If that isn't possible or its raning or something , I might actually cancel and make another one somewhere else. I prefer the food in France, or Italy. So maybe I'll make a second ADR and just cancel whichever one I don't use. :confused3
No offense to the UK, I'm just not into their food. Also figure we'll stop by one of the resort restaurants for lunch in the Boardwalk loop. I think BF would like Big River because they seem to have a lot of different ales and he likes trying new beers. They don't take reservations.

9/15. *sigh* I had Yak & Yeti planned for 4:15. I was all    and then I realized, wait...I have to go home this day. :sad2: So I will be canceling that one if anyone wants it. I asked Don to see if its possible to get in for an early lunch there instead. My plane doesn't leave until 7:55 pm. Would love to eat here because the atmosphere is neat and we like to try new things.

Thoughts? I can't really put in words how sad I am that I apparently won't be able to just pick restaurants on a whim while there like I used to. But the major ones (Jiko, Marrakesh & Sci Fi) are all set. I don't really want to have to "hop" too much. I hope that we'll be able to do at least a few spur of the moments at the resorts. We're just both really laid back people, but we also really like our food & wine. So at least we know we'll have one TS each day.

We have no interest in character meals. I wish there was more time to do dinners. A lot of the places in the resorts only do dinner but you can really only do so many dinners in a week.

Thoughts?

Glad AKL IPO was so helpful-they are terrific! :goodvibes

I'm glad you broke down and made ressies. I would hate for you to not be able to get in anywhere, as you are going during Free Dining. Keep in mind that might make seeing the fireworks from the Rose and Crown kind of hard, I'm sure a few hundred other people will have the same idea.

I hope I am wrong, but from your post it sounds like you plan on making 2 ressies for the same time. Please don't do that! Especially during Free Dining when you have so many people trying to find someplace to use their dining credits.

I wouldn't be making them for the same time. The same day maybe and I'll cancel whichever one I don't use. Unfortunately, Disney doesn't leave you much other choice. Rose & Crown would probably be the only one I'd cancel. The only reason I can see to eat there is to see the fireworks. I've literally never been told "no" before when I've requested an outside table. But you never know. If I can't sit outside, I'd rather enjoy the food in France or Italy.

If the reservations are too close to each other time-wise, Disney will probably cancel both of them for you. ;)

Where did you get this information?

I emailed IPO and asked my rep and he said he's never heard of this. I also called and the woman I spoke to also said she has never heard of that happening.

If someone can provide me with info re: this policy (which must be new since I've virtually never heard of anyone having this happen before) I'd really appreciate it. If that is the case, I will just have the second ADR made in my BF name.

I just wanted to give you an FYI. You can enter the MK at 4pm with your MNSSHP ticket so you wouldn't have to waste a day on your park passes. If you eat a late lunch at a resort that day that would be perfect. Maybe one on the monorail loop then you could just ride over to the MK so you can get in at 4pm. We did this last Oct. and it worked out great. If you stick to your plan and arrive right before your 2:05 ADR, you'll be wasting a park pass on 2 hours!

You know that's a great idea. As much as I like Tony's I've been there a bunch of times...

What's a good restaurant for lunch on the monorail loop? It looks like a few of the places we were interested in there are only open for dinner. :(

But this would mean only having to do a 4 day pass instead of a 5 day. Which would save some cash. :D

I love it when I can help someone save some money!!!

For lunch you could try Kona Cafe at the Poly(it's very good), or the Grand Floridian Cafe at the GF, or Concourse Steak House at the CR(which will probably be the new restaurant The Wave by then). You could also go to the Whispering Canyon Cafe over at the WL and then just take the boat over to the MK. You could even spend some time before lunch at any of these resorts and rent a boat. We really love renting a pontoon boat or one of the smaller ones for a ride around the lake. It's really relaxing and fun too!

Thanks. I was so stressed trying to come up with places to eat that I didn't even really think about getting to the Halloween Party at 4 and eating elsewhere....

I'll take a look at the menus for the GF Cafe and Kona. I hear about Kona all the time. I've been to Whispering Canyon before, cute but not really for me and my BF. I wish Artist Point did lunches...

For what it is worth, I was told this way back in 2006 by a CM when calling Disney Dining and many others have reported being told the same thing.

Well, I'll just have BF book the second one under his name then, just to be safe since it seems like this is one of those things where half the cms tell you one thing and half tell you something else. I can't imagine what they'd do though, if I showed up with a con # and they were like "oh, we canceled".

I absolutely do not want to have to even do this, but as long as they are doing free dining, I see no other feasible way for people who want to have at least two TS options to do things.

I imagine if I do have to cancel Rose & Crown, it will make someone very happy who tries to book same day.

So were we...just last week. Maybe its their way of making sure folks don't double-book?

Double-booking is not allowed, as it isn't fair to other guests.

And if they find out you have double-booked (whether with your name or someone else in your party) you may be in danger of having all of your ADR's canceled.

Well that seems ridiculous to me. And impossible to enforce. But thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to put my oh so horrible double booked ADR in my BFs name. ;)

Disney seems to be making several changes to their policies. It wouldn't surprise me if they start canceling double booked ADRs. Honestly, I usually book more than one place at different parks. We REALLY don't like to be tied down to a particular schedule. We call and cancel the one we aren't going to use as soon as we've made a final decision. Usually about 1-4 hours before the ADR! I've convinced myself this helps the "walk-up" people. Okay, maybe it's more like rationalized. But seriously, booking 180 days out backs people in a corner! I just don't agree with it, should be first come first serve with maybe the exception of Character Meals. I know kids like to get dressed up to eat with their favorite characters which requires some preplanning.

Not impossible as you seem to think it is, but good luck with that. ;)

I begrudgingly(sp?) did the same thing for my upcoming June trip. I have never made ADR's before except for bfast at the Castle in 1999. This will be our 11th trip since 1997 and the first time that I've made ressies(I hate that word BTW). Gone are my days of the carefree, let's just wing it Disney nerd. I have gone to the dark side. The next thing you know I may even at some point purchase the(dare I say it?) DDP!!! ;) (Please note, the wink denotes some sarcasm, not much mind you!)
