I found a great book!!!

I came across an EXCELLENT book. I think it is very motivating and I want to get the word out! Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork : A 12-Stop Program to End Bad Habits and Begin a Healthy Lifestyle
by Mike Huckabee


It isn't about a "food program" but rather about lifestyle changes like stop whining, stop sitting on the couch, stop procrastinating. He weaves in his own story (he is the governor of Arkansas and how he lost weight... actually how he became healthier because he doesn't focus on the numbers, but rather life long health. It is awesome! Highly recommended.
 
I have seen parts of that book and it is really good, need to get it myself. I live in Arkansas and as part of my job work with Gov. Huckabee quite regularly. His weight loss is truly extraordinary especially with the hectic life he leads. We can certainly all take a lesson from him that if a state gov. can do it we can too. :wave2:
 
I would love to read this book. It sounds inspirational. I find one of the things that really helps me with weight loss/fitness is reading success stories of others. It encourages me and motivates me. I googled and found an article he wrote. I include a portion here.

"On the first Saturday morning of July 2004, I ran in the annual Firecracker 5K at Little Rock. Not only was I able to finish the 3.1-mile race, I still had energy left at the end. When someone asked me what my time was that day, I answered: "48 years, 10 months and nine days." That's because it had taken me that long to get to that point. A year earlier, I couldn't have walked a city block without being winded."

"I'm not suggesting you have to go out and run a marathon. Just getting off the couch and walking for at least 30 minutes five days a week is enough to reduce by 30 to 50 percent your chances of dying from largely self-inflicted diseases such as diabetes and heart disease."


I really liked the ocmment about how long it took to run the 5k. I did my first 5k and my time was not great in the standards of runners, but the fact that I did it was great... and it took me 40 years to get there! ;) Hey, if he can do it, we can do it too! :flower:
