For the longest time I didn't understand why DW wouldn't give carb counts. Here is a short version of what happened to us tonight at Olive Garden. Thankfully, I am not a new mom. DD5 diagnosed one year ago.
My 2 daughters and I ate at Olive Garden tonight. DD5 ended up eating a breadstick. Of course, O.G. is not in the Calorie king book. So I tried Fazoli's. No breadstick was listed.
I asked the server, "do you have a nutritional guide? I need the carbohydrate count of the breadstick."
him: I think it has like 1500 but I will ask the back.
me: NO WAY does a breadstick have 1500 carbs.
He walks away and another server brings me a nutritional guide.
him: Ma'am the "Culinary specialist" says a breadstick has 700 carbs.
me: Thank you very much.
I told DD16 that's 100 units of insulin he is basically telling me to give DD5. Do you know what that would do to her? If I was a new type one mom or someone not educated, can you imagine what could have happened. With that much insulin, nothing could have been done to save her by the time it hit her blood stream.
I thought maybe they mixed up carbs and calories. So, I looked. NOPE. 150 calories and 25 carbs. no where is there a 1500 or even 700 near breadsticks.
Yes, I take responsibility for my daughter's care but still .......... That's scary. Now, I am a litte more appreciative of Disney's caution.
