I finally found a way to get DH excited about Disney! - ADDED LINK TO TRIP REPORT

I really hope Reid sleeps in for you! I feel like no matter what time Everett goes to bed (even when I keep him up late in Disney), he still is up at the crack of dawn! :headache:

I don't really have any suggestions about OKW. We stayed there in April, and I don't remember where we were. I do know we weren't too far from a bus stop, but it was a haul to the main area. I think the way the resort is set up, there really aren't any rooms too far from a bus stop.

I don't want to be a downer, but we didn't really love OKW, and will stick with the other DVC resorts from now on. That being said, I know lots of people who love it, so YMMV.

I think that DTD sounds awesome, and I would love some EoS right now!

I'm interested to see what your plans are for that night, but I think I might have an idea! :goodvibes

Sleep? At Disney World? Who worries about minor details like that? :confused3

That looks like a great plan. I hope that your visit to EOS is much smoother than the last. Hopefully dangling the carrot in front of Reid that he can go to the Lego store afterwards will ensure that Reid is on his best behavior.

Yay for Earl of Sandwich!!!! We love it there too and try to eat there everytime we go! I just wish they had more inside seating, it's always crazy in there! You know it's good when the locals eat there too! ;) Too cute about Reid and the Lego store! We noticed some new figures out in front of the store from when we were there in April. So cool! And YAY for sleeping in! :goodvibes

Amanda, we LOVE OKW. It is a beautiful resort. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to PM me. :goodvibes

Thank you! I may take you up on your offer to PM you. I'm so overwhelmed about staying there.

I really hope Reid sleeps in for you! I feel like no matter what time Everett goes to bed (even when I keep him up late in Disney), he still is up at the crack of dawn! :headache:

Me, too! Reid is the same way though. I don't know how they do it some days. I read somewhere that preschoolers need 12-13 hours of sleep a night. Well, no one informed Reid because he can get by on much less!

I don't really have any suggestions about OKW. We stayed there in April, and I don't remember where we were. I do know we weren't too far from a bus stop, but it was a haul to the main area. I think the way the resort is set up, there really aren't any rooms too far from a bus stop.

How was the bus situation? Did it take a very long time to get to the parks?

I don't want to be a downer, but we didn't really love OKW, and will stick with the other DVC resorts from now on. That being said, I know lots of people who love it, so YMMV.

I'll be honest - it wasn't one of my top choices. But, it was the only thing available. And I knew I probably wouldn't get my top choices (BLT, BWV, BCV) due to their popularity plus the race plus F&W.

But, I'm going to try & have an open mind.

I think that DTD sounds awesome, and I would love some EoS right now!

We were going to do DTD another night. But, I rearranged those plans last night. We won't have as much time in DTD as I'd like though.

I'm interested to see what your plans are for that night, but I think I might have an idea! :goodvibes

Yes, I think you do know what our plans are! :rolleyes1

Sleep? At Disney World? Who worries about minor details like that? :confused3

I know, right?!? Sleep is so overrated! At least at Disney. :rotfl2:

That looks like a great plan. I hope that your visit to EOS is much smoother than the last. Hopefully dangling the carrot in front of Reid that he can go to the Lego store afterwards will ensure that Reid is on his best behavior.

Thanks! I really hope I get to actually eat at EOS this year. My child will experience a wrath like no other if I don't. :lmao: That's what I'm hoping - good old bribery! It usually works well with him, so we'll see! *fingers crossed*

:goodvibes

I am really excited to try EOS. Seems like everybody on the DIS loves it. I really don't think I've ever heard anyone talk bad about the place.

The funny thing about Reid & the Lego store is that he doesn't even play with Legos that much. :confused3 So, I think (if he behaves for lunch) I will tell Ed to let him pick out a small playset that isn't too expensive. Those things can be quite high. And I know he's going to want other souvenirs throughout the week. But, I figure a small little something from there should appease him.

OKW looks really pretty, I hope you guys enjoy your stay there.

Yay for EoS!!! I sure hope that you get there, it's an excellent sandwich :thumbsup2

I had to laugh at the meltdown, because we didn't eat at EoS last trip due to something similar-don't want to give too much away ;). However, I feel your pain.

Amanda, I really think you are going to love OKW and Reid will go crazy for the pool area.

Our first stay we were in Building 40, I believe, which was by the Turtle Shack Snack Bar and a one minute walk to our bus stop. However, it is far away from the main building (although you can catch any bus at the bus stop because the last stop before heading to the parks is the Hospitality House).

When Mary and the girls and I went in January, we were in Building 19, right across from the Bus Stop (this was Miller's Road). The only thing I didn't like about it is that our balcony door faced the bus stop and we heard the buses late at night. We walked to the Hospitality House every day and it was no more than a five minute walk (and we had a quiet pool right behind our building).

That's my exact fear! Well, that or this scenario:

He finally decides he'll brave a ride but screams bloody murder & cries the whole time & we get looks like we're the worst parents in the world. Like we chained our child to the ride & he had no choice. Someone call Child Protection Services!!! :scared1:

:lmao::lmao:

I've been trying to talk to him about the big boy rides & show him videos. But, you just never know how they'll react. I wasn't even going to try getting him on ToT. But, he knows that ride is Ed's favorite. So, he wants to try it. I told him, "Let's see how you do with the spooky stuff with Haunted Mansion & if you can ride BTMR & then we'll talk about ToT."

Nope, you don't know. :confused3 Sometimes I think I'm crazy for having taken Max there so many times already, given how unpredictable it is. But I must say, as we are rapidly approaching his fifth birthday, things are calming down...a LOT.

I definitely wouldn't try ToT...but maybe because I'm too scared to ride it myself. :lmao: Actually, I really do want to try it one of these days. I just hope Max really IS forty inches by then and I'm not just incapable of measuring properly....which is always a possibility with me. :rolleyes1

I think you're going to love OKW. Now, I've obviously never stayed there, but what I saw of it everytime we drove by in April, it really looks beautiful. Very Florida, which I like, since we're in...you know...Florida. :lmao: Plus, I really do prefer lighter, whiter tones, which OKW has all the place.

Oh man, I hope Reid lets yall sleep!

I wish I could help you out with OKW! I'm sure you'll get a lot of great advice! :goodvibes

I hope Earl of Sandwich lives up to the hype! I've never eaten there either!

OKW looks really pretty, I hope you guys enjoy your stay there.

It does look pretty! We're really not at the resort much, so it'll probably be fine for us.

Yay for EoS!!! I sure hope that you get there, it's an excellent sandwich :thumbsup2

I do too! I really can't wait to try it for myself!

I had to laugh at the meltdown, because we didn't eat at EoS last trip due to something similar-don't want to give too much away ;). However, I feel your pain.

Uh oh.....can't wait to hear about this in your TR! Cause as you know....misery loves company! :rotfl2:

We walked to the Hospitality House every day and it was no more than a five minute walk (and we had a quiet pool right behind our building).

With the different bus stops, I'm starting to wonder if I should just leave our location to fate. We probably won't hit the pool there. If we do, it'll be just one day. And it sounds like there are bus stops close to every building. I'm wondering if maybe I should just make requests for a good view (like of the golf course) and maybe to be on the 2nd floor. :scratchin

Nope, you don't know. :confused3 Sometimes I think I'm crazy for having taken Max there so many times already, given how unpredictable it is. But I must say, as we are rapidly approaching his fifth birthday, things are calming down...a LOT.

It is unpredictable but there's nothing better than seeing their little faces light up with pure joy. Whether it's from seeing a favorite character or riding a fun ride, it's just pure joy on their faces. :goodvibes But, I also agree that with each year that they get older it gets a little easier too.

When is Max's birthday?

I definitely wouldn't try ToT...but maybe because I'm too scared to ride it myself. :lmao: Actually, I really do want to try it one of these days. I just hope Max really IS forty inches by then and I'm not just incapable of measuring properly....which is always a possibility with me. :rolleyes1

I can't ever seem to get a good measurement on Reid at home. :sad2: But, in March for his wellcheck appt., they measured him without shoes & said he was 41". So, I'm hoping they're right!

ToT is such a great ride! You have to try it at least once. I love roller coasters but hate free fall rides. However, I love ToT!

I don't know why but there are 2 rides that I'm scared for Reid to try: ToT & Splash Mountain. I have these horrible visions of him just flying out of the ride vehicle. I also had this crazy nightmare for BTMR too. But, I've since relaxed about him trying that one. So, maybe I'll come around on the others before our trip.

I have to say that it does look really pretty. And one of the vacation spots on my bucket list is Key West. So, maybe this will give me a small taste of the architecture & decor.

Oh man, I hope Reid lets yall sleep!

Me, too! If nothing else, I'll put on Disney Junior & let him watch that while we sleep a bit longer. Bad Mommy! :rotfl:

I wish I could help you out with OKW! I'm sure you'll get a lot of great advice! :goodvibes

Oh yeah, that's the wonderful thing about the DIS - there's always someone waiting in the wings to help you out! :goodvibes

I hope Earl of Sandwich lives up to the hype! I've never eaten there either!

Me, too! I love a good, warm sandwich so I'm excited to try it out.

Why can't I just ever leave well enough alone?

I mean, seriously! Oh no, I have to write down a plan, think about it, think about it some more & then change it all up. :sad2:

I'm crazy! No, seriously, any day now I'm going to be put in a padded cell wearing a little white jacket. I'll spend my days having conversations with Mickey Mouse, Buzz Lightyear & Belle. :rotfl2:

Okay, so here's the deal: Last night I updated my PTR giving y'all the plan for the morning & afternoon for Sunday, Sept. 30th.

But, my plans just didn't sit well with me. So, of course, I have obsessed over them today. I will admit that part of me MADE myself focus on the plans because I was quite worried about Ed. He is an engineer for an engineering consulting firm that does a lot of work for oil companies. Today, was the 1st time he's ever had to go out into the Gulf onto an oil platform to look at something. I was so nervous! I was so happy when he got home. But, I digress. The point is, I obsessed about these Sunday plans today.

I made some changes & think that this sets much better with me. The changes affect not only our Sunday, but also our arrival day (Fri., Sept 28th).

The old plan:

Friday, 9/28: After going to WWoS & checking in @ POFQ, we would explore POR & eat dinner at the food court there. Do some more exploring & we would be off to bed.

Sunday, 9/30: Sleep in, move to OKW, go to DTD for lunch @ EOS & a little bit of shopping, head back to OKW to prepare for another big night.

The new plan:

Friday, 9/28: After going to WWoS, will check into POFQ. We will now take the boat to DTD, have dinner @ EoS & do some shopping. We'll still be able to get into bed at a decent time that night.

Sunday, 9/30: We will still sleep in. But, we'll wait to load up our luggage in our car until check out time (11am). This should give us more rest time that morning. Once the luggage is loaded up, we'll just grab a quick bite in the food court there. Then, we will head to OKW & check in. I really hope our room is ready so that we can get settled & just chill. Then, we'll get ready for the night!

I hope that's the last time I have to report changes after I've done an update. But, I make no promises! :lmao:

Hope everyone was able to follow my changes. :goodvibes

ETA: OMG! I almost forgot to tell y'all this: A local TV station here has been running a contest on their Facebook page where every day they draw one of their "fans" names & that person wins $200 in gas cards. Well, today......I WON!!!!!!! I'm going pick up my gas cards at the station tomorrow! That will almost take care of our gas budget for Disney! WOO HOO!!!

Hi! :wave2:

So glad to have you over! We'll definitely have to compare plans & notes! :goodvibes

We definitely will!!!

Oh my goodness I am finally caught up. You may laugh to find that as I clicked on the next page I was sitting like this :scared: to see if yet another "number" would show up at the end. I was very relieved when I hit page 11 or so and the number stopped changing. ;)

Where to start... :scratchin

Reid is of course adorable. I so miss that age with my boys. So sweet... so not stinky. :rolleyes1

Your trip to New Orleans make me want to go there!!! I have ALWAYS since I was a child wanted to go and have never been. People always tell me I wouldn't like it. Really? It looks amazing to me.

Congrats on your new home! How cool is that!!! even if you ended up with a bit more at closing than you anticipated.

Way to go with your progress on the 5k training. My dd is running the kids 400 meter at 9am...so that must happen not long after all the 5K runners are done.

I love all your plans thus far. It is neat to see how you are going to work it all. I know I struggle with how to balance those not running, vs. the early morning (although not as early as yours) 400M for dd and my 10 miler at night.

You are staying at POFQ too!! Very cool!!! We check in on 9/25... but my running partner checks in on 9/28. She gets in pretty close to when you anticipate getting in. Once she is in...we will be heading over to get our bibs.. we just may run into each other there :goodvibes

The villians bash looks like it will be so cool. Do you know if 10miler participants get a ticket like that? I love to have those as souvenirs. I am not sure how late we will stay. No one from my room will be going and since my run partner and I are likely to be in one of if not THE last corral, we probably wont' finish until 2am. That doesn't give us a lot of time to spend at the bash. We will see though.

What time do you plan on having dinner the night of the race? My son told me I should not plan on eating 5 hours prior to the run. Does that sound right? I am just not sure. I know this probably isn't great... but when I do my runs in the morning... I try not to put anything in my stomach before hand. If I do, I end up feeling sluggish and nauseated...and if not those two minimal issues... I end up with a side ache.

EoS is on our list of places this trip too. Really... more on dd's list and since our plans seem to be changin... maybe I will skip EoS

:rotfl2:

So I did read you make changes... glad I was caught up when you made one so I wasn't totally confused.

I think the change is simple enough. Looks a bit more relaxed. :goodvibes :thumbsup2

I think your changes look good! You don't want to be rushing too much the morning after a late night, and I always find it takes me much longer to pack up and move out than I thought. I think your new plan will be much more relaxing for everyone.- Oh and I would eat at the POR/PORFQ food court, and not at the OKW (which is what I think you're doing). The OKW quick service is disappointing, pretty basic fare, and no inside seating.

I think you guys will like OKW, I think my main hang-up was I kept comparing it to SSR (since I find them fairly equivalent on the DVC scale). Usually if all the "in demand" resorts are full (BLT, VWL, BWV), it comes down to SSR vs OKW, and since my family is terrible at planning we make that choice a lot. I like SSR a lot, and if I hadn't known that I could be staying there instead of OKW, I think I would have been a lot happier. I think you guys will probably really enjoy it, because you don't have the same SSR hang-up that I do. (Sorry for that long rambling! :) )

CONGRATULATIONS ON WINNING THE GAS CARDS!!! That is awesome!!! Good for you! :goodvibes LOVE when good things happen to nice people!!!

I think that makes a lot of sense! I feel like it would be less stressful to stay at the resort before checking out than going off to DTD. Hooray for winning the gas card too! $200 is a good chunk of change! :woohoo:

I like the new plans...I think they will work better for you in the long run.

That is absolutely awesome about the gas cards.

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Oh my goodness I am finally caught up. You may laugh to find that as I clicked on the next page I was sitting like this :scared: to see if yet another "number" would show up at the end. I was very relieved when I hit page 11 or so and the number stopped changing. ;)

I understand completely! It can be so hard to play catch up on a DIS thread. I've had that "thank goodness this is the last page" feeling many times before.

Where to start... :scratchin

:rotfl: I often feel like I should take notes while I read TRs. Seems like I always forget something I want to comment on.

Reid is of course adorable. I so miss that age with my boys. So sweet... so not stinky. :rolleyes1

Thank you! I really love this age (for the most part  ) & wish I could freeze him.

You mean boys get stinkier? :sad2:

:rotfl2:

Your trip to New Orleans make me want to go there!!! I have ALWAYS since I was a child wanted to go and have never been. People always tell me I wouldn't like it. Really? It looks amazing to me.

We really had the best weekend! It was so nice to get away just the 2 of us. We hardly ever even have date nights. We try to make everything a family event.

I think it's worth doing at least once. I won't lie - it's not my favorite place in the world. But, it is fun to go to every once in a while. If you like really good food, then you absolutely must come to Louisiana at least once. No one cooks like us! :goodvibes

Congrats on your new home! How cool is that!!! even if you ended up with a bit more at closing than you anticipated.

Thank you! Now that we've been in here a month, I have to say that the extra money at closing was absolutely worth it. We love being in here!

Way to go with your progress on the 5k training. My dd is running the kids 400 meter at 9am...so that must happen not long after all the 5K runners are done.

Thank you! That's great that your DD is running the kids race. Ed wanted Reid to do it but I said next time. So, that means we have to go again, right?!?

I love all your plans thus far. It is neat to see how you are going to work it all. I know I struggle with how to balance those not running, vs. the early morning (although not as early as yours) 400M for dd and my 10 miler at night.

Thank you. I was a little worried about working out both races & the late night with having a little one. But, hopefully, I have a good plan for us & it will work out smoothly.

You are staying at POFQ too!! Very cool!!! We check in on 9/25... but my running partner checks in on 9/28. She gets in pretty close to when you anticipate getting in. Once she is in...we will be heading over to get our bibs.. we just may run into each other there :goodvibes

OMG! We may very well see each other! Be on the lookout for us! If I have my backpack on, it's an LSU backpack with a lime green ribbon & Mickey head. My camera back is a backpack type as well that I also have a ribbon & Mickey head on it. And if I have Reid is in his stroller, it'll have (yep, you guessed it!) a lime green ribbon & Mickey head!

I am so excited for the bash! :woohoo: I don't think runners get a ticket. If I remember right, if you want a commemorative ticket, you have to purchase it before some date in August. It says runners don't need a ticket, so I'm thinking y'all don't get one. Which kind of stinks if you ask me. Unless they put one in y'alls registration packet. :confused3

Hopefully, y'all will finish with enough time to enjoy at least a few of the festivities.

I probably won't eat the morning of my run either. I'm the same way - I'll get nauseated.

We'll probably do dinner that night between 5 & 6. Ed plans on eating very light. One good thing for him is that he almost always runs at night at home. We usually have dinner & then about an hour or two later, I go do my run. When I get back, he does his.

EoS is on our list of places this trip too. Really... more on dd's list and since our plans seem to be changin... maybe I will skip EoS

That may be a good plan for y'all. And it wouldn't be expensive, so she could pay OOP & not use up DDP credits. :thumbsup2

:rotfl2:

So I did read you make changes... glad I was caught up when you made one so I wasn't totally confused.

Oh yes, I admit....I am a changer!

I'm glad I didn't completely confuse you. Sometimes, I confuse myself. :sad2: That's why I have my Disney notebook & spreadsheets. :rotfl2:

I think the change is simple enough. Looks a bit more relaxed. :goodvibes :thumbsup2

I think it will be a tad more relaxed. At least that's what I'm going for!

Thanks! You're so right about packing up. At first, I was thinking of eating at OKW. But, the more I read about their "QS" location, I figured it'd be best just to eat at POFQ before we leave.

I think you guys will probably really enjoy it, because you don't have the same SSR hang-up that I do. (Sorry for that long rambling! :) )

I think it'll be fine for us. I don't know that we'll leave being totally in love with the resort. But, you never know! And, the way I'm trying to look at it is that I really want to try all of the deluxes one day. So, I can put a check mark next to OKW. :thumbsup2

CONGRATULATIONS ON WINNING THE GAS CARDS!!! That is awesome!!! Good for you! :goodvibes LOVE when good things happen to nice people!!!

Aww, thank you! :goodvibes I couldn't believe it when I got the email & then when I saw it announced on Facebook. Reid & I were screaming & dancing! :rotfl: Even though he didn't really know what I had won.

I think that makes a lot of sense! I feel like it would be less stressful to stay at the resort before checking out than going off to DTD. Hooray for winning the gas card too! $200 is a good chunk of change! :woohoo:

I do think it'll be less stressful on our resort moving day. And it should give us some more time to recover from the race night before we have another late night.

Thank you! I was so excited about the gas cards! I never win stuff like this! :dance3:

I like the new plans...I think they will work better for you in the long run.

I really think they will, too. Seems like we won't have to do as much rushing around the Sunday.

That is absolutely awesome about the gas cards.

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I couldn't believe it! I'm so happy to have those $200 in gift cards to apply to my gas budget. It covers almost all of it! :yay:

I understand completely! It can be so hard to play catch up on a DIS thread. I've had that "thank goodness this is the last page" feeling many times before.

It wasn't so much a "thank goodness" as much as a  I think updates are coming through faster than I am reading. :rotfl:

:rotfl: I often feel like I should take notes while I read TRs. Seems like I always forget something I want to comment on.

There have been a few times I have done this exact thing. both the taking notes..AND forgetting something I wanted to comment on.

Thank you! I really love this age (for the most part  ) & wish I could freeze him.

You mean boys get stinkier? :sad2:

:rotfl2:

Oh yes, MUCH! I remember my sweet boys. Now they HAVE to shower or I can't stand to be near them. And moods... UG... well, you are reading my PTR for DLR... yes, my oldest ds can be quite a grumpy little man.

I think it's worth doing at least once. I won't lie - it's not my favorite place in the world. But, it is fun to go to every once in a while. If you like really good food, then you absolutely must come to Louisiana at least once. No one cooks like us! :goodvibes

I think the food is one of the reasons I so want to go.

Thank you! That's great that your DD is running the kids race. Ed wanted Reid to do it but I said next time. So, that means we have to go again, right?!?

EXACTLY!!! You have to go again!!!

:rotfl2: Hmmm :scratchin so a what colored Mickey head? :rotfl2:

I am not sure what I will have with me or even if I will have the same hair cut.. just know that if a frazzled crazy looking person comes up to you and says "hey, aren't you Amanda from Dis" that it is me. I tried this in December and I think I about spooked the poor gal to death. I am thinking it is likely that our path will cross.

:confused3

Oh poo... I want one! I hope they come in the registration packets! If not... I guess we do get that fancy medal :woohoo: I guess that makes up for it a little.

That may be a good plan for y'all. And it wouldn't be expensive, so she could pay OOP & not use up DDP credits. :thumbsup2

Plus... they have a birthday club. DD is celebrating her birthday while we are there...so as long as the voucher for her free sandwich arrives prior to us leaving... that would totally cut down her oop costs.

Oh yes, I admit....I am a changer!

I'm glad I didn't completely confuse you. Sometimes, I confuse myself. :sad2: That's why I have my Disney notebook & spreadsheets. :rotfl2:

I confuse myself too... I have many a spreadsheet I rely on too.

WOO HOO!!!

Congrats on the win...you deserve it amanda

as for the changes and being nuts....a little reminder girlfriend...
