DGS, Pau,l and I have always been close. I was there, holding him, within minutes of his birth and I watch him (and now little sis, Tabitha) every Wed. evening (and whenever I can other times). He climbs in my lap for me to read to him and Friday night he slept over so he could go to the Cherry Blossom parade in my town. So he knows his Uncle Alex and me!
It has always bugged me that when it's time for me to leave his house or when he's leaving my house he never wants to give me a hug or a kiss.
Well, yesterday, when I took him home it was the same story. I had to walk over to him to get my hug and kiss goodbye. But then, right after I walked out the door, I could hear him. He was crying! :guilty:
Could it be that all this time he was sad at the fact that grandma was leaving???

At 2 he most definitely would be sad about you leaving. At his age he doesn't have any concept of time and even if you were going to see him again then next day he wouldn't be able to grasp that. Just give him a hug and kiss and tell him you'll see him soon. Once you actually leave and his parents get him involved in something he'll be fine.

Take comfort in the fact that you're a very important person in his life or else he wouldn't be upset that you're leaving :grouphug: .

That was our child's issue when his grandparents left. He still hates it when they leave but now they get those hugs as he's grown up. :)

Just this morning my DD (3) didn't want to kiss Pap and Mim goodbye so that they couldn't leave! I think you've figured it out.

My niece has always been like that, and she is now 5.

My little grandson has always been like that too. He is 4 now and I have just figured out that is why he gets mean and won't give grandma a hug goodbye when it is time to leave! :sad1:

My two year old DGS gives me a hug and kiss when I leave, but he still cries when I go.

No doubt you figured it out. He figures as long as he doesn't kiss you goodbye there will be no goodbyes. You are so lucky to have such a wonderful relationship with the child. Sure hope when my time comes to be grandma I can have that kind of relationship with my grandchildren. :love2:
