I fell in love ... with AKV!!!

Thank you for sharing your experience. We bought AKV site unseen and I can't wait to stay there (or see it, for that matter). I hope our experience is as good as yours, we will have to wait a while though, we are using our developer points at SSR this year.

I guess I am the only one who is very hesitant about staying at AKV. I am concerned about the dark decor, the remoteness, having to take a bus to everywhere, and the different spices at the restaraunts. I have yet to visit, this is on my list. No flames please, I just feel it is somewhat cruel to house all of these animals into a large "viewing" space. Its like, I kinda get that Jurassic Park feeling. I know its me, so I'm trying to keep an open mind.:rolleyes1

If the animals don't want to be seen, there are bushes, areas that they can go to that are remote to the viewing areas. They are however well trained to follow the food carts, and frequently check out the places that just had food a few hours ago. I don't worry about the animals.

You'll notice that the grass eaters are prey animals, and even on the savannah, they do not necesarrily face the same direction when resting. They are alert...it's a kinder, safer kingdom that they are living in now.

Cool glad you liked it! We can't wait to stay there in May.

But, I must say, the VALUE rooms are SMALL! I had to figure out where to put all of those pillows (from the bed and pull-out) and all our overpacked luggage. It was not an easy task.

How was the storage? My 7 month window opens up in a couple of weeks and I'm really debating between trying to get Jambo or Kidani. I'd love to stay at Jambo b/c we have never stayed at AKL and I'd really like the experience. However, I'm very concerned about the limited storage in the Jambo studios ... it will be four of us for 7 nights.

Well, we stayed in the VALUE studio, which is supposed to be about 50 feet smaller than the regular studio. It doesn't sound like alot, but would probably make a great deal of difference in a couple of ways. First, there are two thick, square wooden coffee tables in front of the sofa. When you want to pull the sofa out, there is nowhere to put those tables (and walk!). At first I put one under the sink/vanity in the bathroom. But then my DH managed to stack them between the bed and outside wall. Alittle more room would have helped with the tables. Second, there was nowhere to put the luggage rack thing. The room is really just too small with all that big furniture in there. So, we had to squeeze the chairs and table together to the point that we could not use the chairs to fit the luggage rack next to the chair and outside wall. We wound up keeping that suitcase on the rack, and leaving clothes in there, because there is not alot of drawer space for four people.

The bed has three or four LARGE decorative pillows on it, which I had to stack on top of the wide (but not very deep) armoire/closet thing (I don't know what you call it!). And, I may not have gotten the pull-out sofa right, because I wound up with all four sofa pillows (plus two throw pillows) having to be stored away. I had to use the armoire thing for all of the pillows....so we couldn't use it for our clothes, etc.

Oh, by the way, the armoire had a pack 'n play in it, which I managed to store under the bed.

In our first value studio (which was a dedicated unit) we had another built in closet (small) which fit a few items. But the second value studio we were in (non-dedicated unit) did not have the closet, instead having a slight alcove area where the door to the adjoining unit was.

I wish I had some pics to show you, but I only took a few of my kids in the room and not really any that show what I'm talking about. I'm sure someone on these boards has posted some pics.

Next time we are going to be in regular studio, so hopefully will have alittle more room. And....I tell you what.....it has made me want to trim down on my overpacking habit!! It's always hard for me when we have the seasons where you have to prepare for hot and/or cold weather, because I double-pack. But when it's hot, and you know it's going to be hot....that cuts down on half my packing.

Aside from the storage issues, the room was very comfortable. I wish we had enough points to do a 1 BR, but then we wouldn't be able to make multiple trips a year (especially now that we have to go on weekends....ouch, those points hurt!).

On our Dec/08 trip we went over to AKL just to get a real feel for it not just a demo at SSR, we are thinking bout a point add on and trying to decide where. We really like BWV for all the obvious reasons but AKL and VWL are tempting us as well. We are planning Christmas 09 and are going to try to get into AKL but thats to far off and will do our add on probably by spring. Thanks for positive input HOWEVER now more conflicted then EVER:) . But HEY its a good feeling...Will continue to do our research THANK YOU guys....:thumbsup2

BTW will Christmas Ressies be easier you think with more inventory this year? We did waitlist for Christmas 08 but nothing came thru

I know what you mean about falling in love with AKV  . I never understood people who were specific-resort fans - until I stayed at AKV. Try the savanna-view and you will be hooked forever!

We have stay there many of times and love it so we bought DVC at the AKV can't wait for it open up.:cool1:

We are going for our first time in March, glad to here all the positive feedback.

I am so glad to read the Positive review! AK Lodge was our all time favorite Resort Hotel before DVC. We almost did not buy DVC because we loved this Hotel so much. I was one of the first buyers or in the first few days, when this resort came up for sale. We love staying there. :goodvibes

Wow, what a wonderful thread! Thank you for posting the link to the other thread mmmagic! The pictures were great!
We've only been to WDW once, took the tour and bought! We had been looking at the dreams book and watching the dvd before we left.
We have not even seen the resort yet. We were going to stay there in May, but now we bought Bay Lake so we will be using developers points in May.
Our first trip "home" will be in December of 09! It is concierge, so we will have to take an afternoon to go explore Kadani also.
Thank you for posting all the great info and pictures. I can't wait to be there!

We are going in Feb. and can't wait. From the pictures that I have seen, I expect to fall in love with AKV too.
