Ok, today is my son's birthday.. he is now 9... and today also coincided with a huge snowstorm.. in the area.
A month ago, I mailed all his uncles, aunts an invitation to come to our house.. he didn't want a friend party, but a family party... all my family cancelled due to the snow and poor road conditions..
Granted the conditions have changed in the past hour, but all who are still coming (or want to come) is my elderly FIL who wants to come out in the snow.. his eyesight is poor in good driving conditioins, and in the snow.. would be disasterous.
He also invited two friends to come to the movies, and they cancelled as well because of the snow. We still went to the movies anyway..
So now, here he is turning nine and no one is coming!
We bought a huge 1/4 sheet cake, and no one will eat it!
He's a pretty sensitive character, and I don't know what ot say to him.. He was crying at the movies that no one showed up.
As my birthday usually fell on Thanksgiving as a kid, I understand how it is for people to "pass" over a birthday.
Its hard for him to understand and I don't know what ot say to him. I had that happen to me once, and you don't forget it.. ever...
We did give him a present early (a car track set), and we went to a Crhistmas parade in the breezing snow because he wanted to, and we still went to the movies..
I just wish I could take away his pain here!
Do I still have cake and ice cream when the guests were supposed to come? Or should we drive over to my FIL's house to have him have cake with us?
I just don't know what to do!

I understand how he feels ... Actually, there was one year my family (mom, dad and sis) totally forgot my birthday .... yikes! Maybe the party can be rescheduled for another weekend...

They didn't remember until a week had already passed
Oh well... they haven't forgot it since
