US DJ criticised over Obama song

Limbaugh has referred to Barack Obama as "Halfrican American"
US talk show host Rush Limbaugh has come under fire for airing a racially charged song about the Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Limbaugh has been playing a song called Barack the Magic Negro, to the tune of Puff the Magic Dragon.

The right-wing talk show host defended himself by saying he is an entertainer and the song is a parody.

And they wonder why right wingers - Rush's audience - are sometimes assumed to be racist from the start?

But don't get your hopes up. As ridiculous a blowhard as Pill Poppin' Daddy is, they won't drop him on his fat posterior. It's a shame, but he can get away with pretty much anything he wants without reprisal, and it's pretty pathetic that people still advertise on his show.

Rush is no better than Anne Coulter, which is about as bad an insult as I can proffer on these boards without running up against the word censor. :teeth:

if he gets fired I will be surprised, he always get away with stuff.

Just as bad as Michael Moore and Al Franken as well. Lets not leave them out.

To think not too long ago people were saying Rush was not a racist even after his McNabb remarks.

I'll give them one thing, dittoheads sure are good at denial.

I don't like either of them, but this is beyond anything I've ever heard either of them say. Rush won't get fired, he makes WAY more money for the stations that carry him than Imus did.

Hardly. Pointing out that someone is an idiot is not quite in the same class of offensiveness as calling someone a ******.

as if anyone needed more proof that Rush was a racist and, in general, rotten human being.

I think his numbers vs. Imus of listeners will act in his favor, given the number of truly disgusting things he's said in the past and gotten away with.

It will be interesting to see what "protection" his racist remarks get..It's starting already..:sad2:

I find it ironic, too, that I heard about it on BBC.

I think the real key is many of the dittoheads will applaud his remarks rather than joining in the crowd speaking out against him.

Imus defended himself by saying he's an 'entertainer', too. I would put Rush in the news category, especially considering how many people use info from him as name him as a reputable 'source'.

Of course, that's like me saying Howard Stern is a 'source' to be taken seriously, but Stern doesn't represent himself as the voice of a policial group.

IMO, Rush is just another crack in the eventual split of the Republican Party.

:thumbsup2

Love that Senator Obama is taking the high road on this one:

"Mr Obama said he had not heard the song but that he did not take himself so seriously as to be offended by every comment made about him.

His campaign team described the song as dumb."

However, the fact that he has been given secret service protection after threats appeared on white supremacist websites is beyond sad. I would hope that Limbaugh's song parodies don't send out the wrong message to these wackjobs.

He'll issue some half hearted apology a la Imus...only folks will pat him on the back and say "Good Job!" and all will be forgiven.

Something like, "I'm so sorry if folks took my attempt at humor and entertainment out of context and blew it out of proportion." :sad2:

I'm a conservative, and I can't stand the guy. He and Anne Coulter both are embarrassments to a lot of us conservatives.

Just as bad as Michael Moore and Al Franken as well. Lets not leave them out.

What have either of those men ever done that even approaches some of the vile things Coulter and Rush have said and done?
