I dont understand....why am i not fitting FOP?

I'm in the same boat and I figure I have a 50-50 chance of riding. I have large calves and I've heard this can be a problem.

I may try the foldable ballet flaps.

I'm not going to let this one ride dictate how I feel about my whole trip. It's just one ride. I'd rather think about all the other positive experiences I get at Disney World.

Being embarrassed by a crowd I never will see again is not going to stop me trying for a ride.

I somewhat think if this is the worse thing that happens to me is getting rejected for FOP I'll considered myself a fortunate individual overall.

Thank you. I bought my super bendy water shoes and I hope that does the trick. My fp is for 12:35 so I will update and I hope this thread does help other people of size especially if you have big feet and wear clunky shoes that don't bend..... Wear bendable shoes or flip flops

Random question- IF your day was planned at MK, how did you manage to get a FP for today?

The ride was built to Disney specs... doesn't matter what country did the building. It obviously accommodates a large percentage of people.
I am 6'1" 225 lbs and fit easily in the ride. I know am overweight and working on fixing that...Us Americans do have an issue... I don't see where it's Disney's fault but you choose to put the blame on them. Some people are outside the design of the ride and have to deal with that.

GreatGrayGirl, I'm anxious to hear how it goes! Let us know! In the world we live in today, everyone can cry "That's not fair" except those who have a little extra in the middle. While I'm far under the 6'1" size 22.... I'm 5'4 and size 12.... I understand this and it's truly sad!

I really don't care if you feel you're being trolled. I'm not trolling and my response is valid and the online bullying is uncalled for and yes the Chinese did manufacture design and produced the ride vehicle that's a vehicle and apparently my foot size is the problem again... The Chinese have tiny feet that's a fact they even make the women wear special shoes so their feet don't grow large and I have every right to complain . I should have no problem fitting and yet I do being 6'1 isn't freakishly tall and wearing a size 22 pants when most American women are now a size 14 isn't that huge in comparison and yet I was still unable to ride. That's a problem and it's not my problem specifically the vehicle was designed poorly for larger Americans.

If it makes you feel any better, I would imagine no matter what country manufactures attractions for Disney, they must follow Disney's detailed specifications and that those would be more the standard for the country the attraction will be installed. Does that make sense??? I may not be expressing it correctly.

More importantly, how did you do today??

I have never been a CM but my two cents: I wanted to mention a reason why they may have told you to put your shoes back on. In an emergency, it is very unsafe to have bare/socked feet. I was in an honest-to-God Mufasa-like stampede in Penn Station earlier this year and saw many women in flats and flip flops literally run out of them and risk cutting their feet and worse (there was glass breaking everywhere, not to mention having to run outside onto the streets of NYC to get away). Luckily I had on laced boots and was able to safely and extremely quickly evacuate the building. Just because others were allowed to ride without shoes shouldn't matter - maybe some CMs are lax on the rules (if there are rules) about this, maybe you got a more conscientious CM who felt more strongly about the need to keep your shoes on. Thick socks will not protect your feet in a more serious emergency. I would not want to be the CM responsible after an emergency when a person hurts their foot and says "But she told me it was okay to keep my shoes off!" If others rode barefoot on the same ride I would question it, but at the same time again the CM may have erred on the side of safety. I agree a more flexible shoe may be of help, like a flexible thin-soled flat or flip flop. I have yet to ride FoP but I know some of my sneakers definitely have a very thick sole and I could see it being a hindrance to certain restraints. Soarin' presents a unique situation as a falling non-secure shoe can injure those below them, which is why you are told to remove them. To me there is no need safety-wise to remove shoes on such a ride, from how it's been described.

In that same tone, if I were a CM, I would never be willing to touch a stranger's body to force them into a restraint. If the person cannot maneuver themselves into the restraint themselves - for ANY reason be it too small, tall, anything - and does not have a friend/family member to help, I would not be willing to assume responsibility for touching a stranger and, if all of these threads have been indicative of the process, "forcing" calves into restraints. I work in personal injury law and that to me screams "lawsuit possibility." Not saying you'd sue but I would bet my house someone would.

As others have said, not everyone can ride everything for a multitude of reasons and unfortunately one of those reasons may include being too large for the restraints. By the same token, I have twin nephews and one was too tiny to ride many things his twin could until this past trip. I do feel for the fact that it must be very hurtful to not be able to ride because a restraint won't fit or you are too tall, too short, pregnant, on and on, but I bet no one else is even noticing that. My boyfriend has left many rides due to fear of heights last minute, and besides a quick glance, I don't think anyone has ever looked at him flee (literally ran out of Soarin' haha). I think in general we think people judge us all and look at us a lot when really most people are in their own little worlds, especially in Disney.

Troll?why? Because I'm at wdw and I can't fit a damn ride and im upset about it ....sure im a troll I have a fp at 12:35 for fop feel free to spot me in the line and see if I'm trolling I'll be the 6'1 woman not many of us here!

:lmao::lmao: Yes, the Chinese are to blame because you're too big to fit on a ride. And I'm sure nobody else...man or woman...who is 6'1" or taller has ever been able to fit on FoP. :sad2: Really hate to be rude, but you come on here say you're a large person, mention you've gained at least 10lbs in just 9 days while at WDW and then complain because you don't fit on a ride. Oh, then blame the Chinese because they didn't design the ride properly. Sorry, not buying it or feeling sorry for you. If you take that as "bullying", so be it. Plenty of larger people have fit on it, bigger than you. Some people have struggled for various reasons. Whatever yours was, that's a shame, but ranting and blaming others is just sad.

Also I want to say I hope it didn't come off as trying to invalidate your feelings as I certainly feel they are valid. I just wanted to point out that there in fact is a lot of logic and safety reasons behind these restraints, decisions, and rules and even though sometimes it seems personal, it isn't except in the idea that it is to keep you safe. My nephew tried to look at it that way when he couldn't ride. Disney was looking out for him and his safety, they weren't trying to ruin his good time. Instead he enjoyed a few more ice cream treats while waiting for the taller nephew. Happily for him, this past July he did in fact reach the height levels!

I hope OP finally got to ride! Cannot wait to hear if she was successful. Fingers crossed.

Finally...I will not really get into any aspect of your mention of a specific ethnicity, but just know that the thought of "Chinese are all small!" is of course not uniformly true. I have a Chinese cousin who at 14 is almost 6', wears at least a size 9 shoe, and is athletically built. Painting with such broad strokes is not very fair.

In one post you say 6'1" is not freakishly tall (which I agree with) and in the next post you say there's not many of you there.
Hmm...

How many 6'1 women do you see everyday? Men are plentiful.... my issue is I've seen men taller and larger than me that fit the ride and I've seen shorter more round bigger women fit the ride... I'm right in the middle and couldn't fit. It's just odd.

I have not bullied you at all.
I am just trying to get you to see that not all attractions can easily accommodate all sizes and you just keep ignoring that lol.
I didn't ignore it. I read it. My point is I've seen men taller and heavier with round guts ride.... And I've seen shorter bigger women ride... I'm 6'1 size 22 pants and can't fit. It's weird and I've seen people being turned away. I'm... I'm the norm. I should fit... Height tall yes.... Size 22 pants.... Fat.. Sure.. But not so fat I shouldn't be able to ride. I can fit in a 2x easily yet I can't ride? It's not fair.

If you are too big then you are too big.
It stinks but its just reality.
Most attractions are extremely Pooh size friendly. Apparently FOP is designed in such a way that it just cannot be.
Stop complaining and enjoy everything else you can ride.
Now you have a goal for a future trip.

Your post comes across as very mean spirited. I assume you don't have a weight problem at this time and I hope you never do. I do wish you would be a little more understanding of the challenges and disappointments that being overweight brings. For your information, losing weight and keeping it off is far from the easy task many average size people think it is.

I could not get my feet to bend in my sneakers... He kept saying put my feet ALL the way inside but when I did that my thighs hurt like hell because im tall and my body wouldn't fit...

So it's a shoe thing.

Someone said try flip flops... IDK...

Wear the flip flops. :)

Why does having shoes on/off make a difference for you? If it's the ankle angle, then yes, try a pair of shoes that let you bend the ankle. But if it's leg position, having fat legs and a huge butt is going to make it hard to get in the right position, no matter what shoe you are wearing.

Don't be surprised if you get a warning for your racist comment about the Chinese, BTW.

DO, saying that Americans are big and the Chinese are not isn't racist against the Chinese people... fairly insulting against Americans, though.

And yes I have large hips thighs and behind like most women.. Still does explain why men larger than me can ride and I can't

Well, many women don't have that issue, first. But also many men don't. And the difference in how men carry their weight is going to show up on how men fit in a ride. It's literally the actual explanation. :)

Men might have a belly hitting the front but they generally aren't going to have a female style chest as well. They aren't going to have the same thighs as many women do. Etc.

People waddling in Calf sizes as big as my thighs and I am a size 20!!

Oh come on now. That's a nasty word to use.

No one there gives you a second thought

Can you explain that to the people jeering my husband as he walked off of the former mulholland madness at California adventure? They were giving him first second and third thoughts.

I feel like we're being trolled

Because Disney put in a ride that isn't size friendly? Welcome to the universal side of things. (And DCA's goofy sky school aka mulholland madness, and th now totally gone maliboomer) These discussions are had often over there. It's rotten that not everyone can get into the rides they want to ride.

What are you contributing here?

She's saying that it's not true that shows are required on all rides. It's a good contribution.

The Chinese have tiny feet that's a fact they even make the women wear special shoes so their feet don't grow large and I have every right to complain .

Only if you're riding with women 80 or older is this an issue. Are you saying that the engineers who designed this ride designed it for their great grandmothers?

That says a lot about where your priorities are while on vacation.

Wanting to ride a ride with her family? Sounds like good priorities to me.

Finally...I will not really get into any aspect of your mention of a specific ethnicity, but just know that the thought of "Chinese are all small!" is of course not uniformly true. Sure. And I can point to my husband's Korean family that now has a few men over 6' on the "cousin once removed" generation. Nutrition is good! Not being occupied by hostile forces and starved, or being war-torn and starved are good things! But it's going to take a few more generations for it to be the norm.

Disney goes above and beyond to accommodate people of all shapes, sizes and abilities and cannot possibly accommodate everyone, all the time, for every ride. You are asking them to cater to the minority and not the majority. As much as you keep saying that Americans are larger and Disney should design with that in mind, most people have been able to ride FOB without issue. I say that is a win for Disney. Stop blaming other people for you not being able to ride. It is not anyone's "fault". Stop trying to get people to feel sorry for you. It is just something that happened. Enjoy the rest of your trip and move on from that experience.

That really does stink. I think the problem is that you are in the upper end of a number of things: height, weight, calf size and shoe size. One or two of those things would be fine, but the combination of all of them makes it difficult for you to fit on the ride :(. I do hope that you make it this time!
