i dont totally understand Kindle.....so......

If you are considering the nook, you might want to be aware that Barnes and Noble (the company) is now available for purchase.

Not sure how this would affect the nook one way or the other - it's a major property, and an asset for any prospective buyer. Some interesting sales data in here:

Surprised at the low total sales (2.6M combined nook and kindle sales since Amazon started selling the kindle in 2007); I suppose the iPad has already surpassed the combined total of both, but I think the new WiFi models will do very well.

Both devices are pretty great, and I think (hope?) amazon will add epub support to future kindles. I think library support is a killer app for a lot of people, and a way to justify the upfront expense in this economy. We can check out pretty much any recent ebook from the Philadelphia Library for 21 days; same as for paper books.

There is some question as to whether Barnes and Noble will survive as a business.

I'm not knocking the nook. I believe anything that gets people reading is a good thing.

I would just be cautious about spending money on a device when the solvency of the supporting / parent company is in question.

oops...........................messed up the quote........see below.

Yup...if you have enough money, you can now buy Barnes and Noble.
i just checked my balance...........it seems i am a little short.:)

I don't think BN going under is a serious possibility, although I suppose anything's possible in this economy. From what I read, a consortium of their leading shareholders is looking to buy out everyone else and take the company private.

All of these devices are pretty phenomenal; e-ink is an amazing technology that sips battery and does one specific task really, really well.
