I am trying to lose weight... I need to cut down on my portions at dinner but otherwise I have been doing a good job. My problem is the complete lack of exercise!

So today, I don't think I have eaten enough...

I was bad for breakfast... I had a plain Lenders bagel and light cream cheese...

For lunch I had a salad, nothing but lettuce and carrots... with a little Olive Garden dressing...

About 20 green grapes and about 20 pretzels....

So far, only 22 oz of water and I am working on 20oz of diet pepsi.. I know this isn't enough, as I am tired, have a head ache... I think I need to add some protein to this....

I feel like when I eat what is recommened, South Beach or what not I eat to much....

Tonight will be a small sirloin and corn and possibly a little rice.

Too little food.... I am 5'6" at 160lbs and would like to lose 15lbs and/or two clothing sizes and inches by October..... I will be happy with anything but that's my goal.

From all I've read. Stop starving yourself, your body will revolt and hold on to any and all fat cells thinking you're about to die. well sort of.

Exercise more, and eat what you know is healthy.

Now if I could only follow my own advice. :D

enter in all your food that you've eaten today - it'll give you a good idea where you stand calorie wise.

you should eat no less then 1200-1300 calories a day...otherwise your body goes into starvation mode.

personally - I find portion control and calorie counting the best method of dieting for *me*. (I know it doesn't work for all.) keeping track of my food on fitday really kept me in check and on track.

yes - I had HORRID headaches/dizzy spells the first few days...cause I was used to eating so much, then so little. but my body adjusted within a week to 10 days and i was fine.

best of luck to you

Even if you don't want to join Weight Watchers, try to find a friend or an internet connection and try to follow their Points plan or even their old exchange plan. It really does work. And you do need more protein. I understand totally, as I am not a big protein eater, but you could have added a bit of cheese or a hardboiled egg (or both) to that salad and you would probably be feeling better right now.

On the WW points program I am guessing you have had about 13 points so far today, assuming you used not too much cream cheese and not too much dressing, and assuming that what you wrote is really all you have eaten (no coffee with creamer/sugar, no butter along with the cream cheese, no hard candies or regular gum... the kinds of foods that are easy to forget about). For the same 13 points you could have had a much better day. For example.... You could have had an omelet made with 2 eggs and one egg white cooked with Pam spray, along with 1 pc of lt bread toasted and a small bit of cream cheese or butter, and coffee with milk.... then a mid morning snack of 1 orange or apple or about 10 grapes..... then a lunch of a sandwich made with 2 pcs of lt bread (or one lt pita pocket or 1 whole wheat wrap) with 3 pieces of fat free Oscar Mayer bologna (really good... better than it sounds) and 1 piece of cheese and a bit of spicy brown mustard, about 12 small pretzel twists and your diet Pepsi (preferably caffeine free).... All of that for about the same 13 points!! Doesn't that sound much more appealing than what you had? And you would not feel so deprived. At your current weight I am guessing (WW stuff is in the car) that you would have a daily allowance of about 25 points with 35 FLEX points to use throughout the week.

And I do agree that you need to add the exercise. And believe me, I don't exercise NEARLY as often as I know I should, so I know where you are coming from. But I have a friend who lost about 40 pounds about 3-4 years ago and has kept it off and taken off more and she looks terrific.... and she tells me over and over the difference was the exercise, which she continues EVERY WEEK (she exercises at least three days a week either at Curves or on her treadmill).

Anyhow, sorry to sound preachy!! Heaven knows if you could see me you would tell me to follow my own advise!! But just trying to be helpful. Try going over to the WISH board for more help and suggestions....Have a great day!.....................P

Edited to add: BTW, I forgot to mention calcium... I didn't see any in your diet!! VERY IMPORTANT!! My grandmother died last fall due to complications from severe osteoporosis.... please take your calcium!!................P

Pjilla~Thanks for your post. I do go over to WISH, thought I would get more responses here.

I am thinking about doing weight watchers, but as soon as I start to think I HAVE to do something, I fail. It's been a long time since i have tried something so maybe I should give it another shot....
I don't have a ton off weight to lose but enough.....

Should I try WW? I tried South Beach but I can't be deprived of things...

I have started exercising... went to Curves on Saturday and on Monday... and then walked last night with DFiance.... I want to go home and do the Firm but I need to eat something to get that energy. Won't be doing the bagel for breakfast agian that's for sure... DFiance swears by that but doesn't work for me!!!

Maybe I should try weight watchers, I just hate to spend the money and not do it..... things are tight with the wedding now....

Should I try it???

Personally I would say yes to WW, but that is a diet that works for me. I tried Atkins for about 3 weeks. Apparently I am carb-resistent and lost almost no weight, despite being FAITHFUL to the induction diet. South Beach doesn't interest me... and I have tried Jenny Craig, but I didn't think that the food was that great and I resented HAVING to buy their food. I truly love Weight Watchers..... but to be honest, I have never been able to keep the weight off..... the minute I stop going to meetings I lose all my motivation and "fall off the wagon". I have told myself this time that I will not stop attending meetings NO MATTER WHAT and that I am making a LIFETIME committment to this. If it were a matter of my kids health I certainly wouldn't complain about the $$ or the time.... so why should my health be any less important!? Maybe you can find a friend to attend with.... it certainly helps me.

BTW, my diet philosophy is that there is no "ONE" perfect diet out there. You just need to find what works for you (as long as it is reasonably healthy) and something that you can stick with. DH has been on Atkins for about 18 months. He lost 65 pounds the first year and has been maintaining over the past 6 months. I have had lots of people eager to share their views on how "unhealthy" they believe Atkins to be.... but in my opinion my husband being 65 pounds overweight was even MORE unhealthy. And since it works for him, then it is the PERFECT diet for him.

And since you are getting married soon, I would think that that would be the best motivator. I needed to lose about 30 pounds before I got married.... it was the only time in my life I was able to lose weight without a "program". And, if I may say so myself, I looked "maaaa-velous" on my wedding day. DO I REMEMBER A SINGLE FOOD I HAD TO GIVE UP DURING THAT TIME?? Of course not, but if I had to look at wedding photos of myself overweight, you can be darn sure I wouldn't forget that!!

Anyhow, feel free to PM me if you would like to chat.............Pamela

I will second WW - I am currently on it and so far I am doing great. I was on it a couple of years ago, and slipped off of it.

I have been on it for about a month, and have lost 16 pounds so far - that is alot, to me, but I am eating my alottment of points, and I have only used my flex points twice I think (and not all of them, maybe even less than 10) so that may be why I am losing more.

I did notice that with the flex points, you have lower daily points than with the old WW. I am currently allowed to eat 24 points a day, so I think at your current weight, you would be able to eat 22 points a day. I started out at eating 26 points a day, and will be soon ready to switch to 22 points a day. I am noticing now that I get fuller quicker, and don't eat nearly as much. I have lost cravings for alot of things, but if I want something, I eat it - I just have to realize that I will need to adjust for the rest of the day. The flex points are nice though - you can splurge for a big dinner, or add a couple of points each day if need be.

Once you get the hang of it, you really don't even need to keep track of points. I pretty much eat the same things every day - so I just know my portions and go. You are also provided with a booklet for eating out, so you can figure your points, then, too. You will feel like you are starving the first few days - it takes some getting used to, but once that is over, you never feel deprived. I still have a small candy bar every now and then, ice cream (Smart Ones) and feel satisfied. I am no longer wanting to eat junk all of the time, and really watch what I eat. I have to ask myself if that is something I want to eat, or if I can live without it...

I am hoping to lose about 20-30 more pounds by October. At the rate I am going, I'll be there!! Good Luck!

could i mention one more diet? ;)
I joined eDiets 2 years ago and lost over 25lbs...I learned my portion control, how much to eat/what not to eat, and was VERY successful!

They offer MANY different diets now - atkins/fit for life/etc... I signed up again (some of the weight has crept back up as my habits have slid) and am doing the 'regular' eDiets plan. I've found that I can't do Atkins/south Beach (nearly passed out at the gym once), I'm better with a portion controlled diet...and it worked really well for me in the past!

they have a TON of resources online..even if you just want to browse around the sight you can find a TON of info!

best of luck to you
