Watched the new planning video last night. They switch from scene to scene so fast, my head was spinning. They don't really focus on anything for too long, it just seems like they are trying to cram as much in as possible in the shortest amount of time. There was very little "meat" to the resorts overview. The characters were a little annoying IMO, except for the mom. Overall, I wasn't left feeling as excited to go as I am when I watch an old video from 1999 or 2000.

Anyone else?

I thought it was ok. It did get my dh and dd very excited for certain attractions. I think they are trying to give you the sneak peeks so you book and trip and see everything for yourself. It is definately geared for first timers. The characters were a little over the top (especially the action guy).

Sorry to those of you who liked it but since our opinions are being asked for..I didn't care for anyone on that video except the "Mom"..she was very "normal" & cool. The other were sooooooooo annoying that my kids didn't even want to watch it anymore. We did like the part where you answer questions in the game show..that was cute.

i was so excited to get it for our 2 yr. olds, but we only watched it for about 10 mins (i was ready to turn it off after about 3 mins, but kept it on thinking that eventually, it'd HAVE to slow down so you can actually SEE some of the rides...it didn't happen).

do you remember a few years back when an animated japanese cartoon caused seizures in a number of kids watching the show because the images were, basically, too fast (and some other factor that was just right to cause this to happen)? that is exactly what i thought of while my little ones were trying to figure out what they were seeing on the screen.

we are still just watching our old video, instead (plus, i like the fact that the video plays through and you don't have to keep using the menu/play button)...

oh well. i guess i should shell out the cash for one of the magic kingdom videos if i want a movie, rather than a planning guide, huh?

I agree with everything everyone has already said! Most annoying characters by far! What is with the park bench guy? I didn't pay 222 for a 6 day hopper just to sit on a bench! :rotfl2:

Gotta go with a big fat blech! This one doesn't appeal to me at all. I love last year's, the one in the purple folder. My kids don't seem to like this new one so much, either. Totally agree with what's been said about switching scenes so fast your head spins!

They seem to be trying to target a younger audience with this one, despite the presence of "bench guy." Last year's version, with the nice pleasant dark-haired gal in the Hawaiian outfit was much more appealing to me as a mom and family-gal!

I didn't like it too much either, I prefer the last one, the purple one. I also think they should either make the dvd longer to include more info on the resorts or they should offer a 2nd dvd showcasing the resorts for people planning to stay on-site.

Definitely a separate DVD just for the resorts! What a great idea.

I agree it's not great if you're trying to plan a trip, but my DSs (10 & 7) and my DD (9) thought it was great. They said it reminded them of Crissa and the top 7 that was shown at the resorts. They've watched it everyday since we received it.

my only thought was when they played the Do do dota do do dooo... music was the BOB guy from the "Natural Male Enhancement" product.

I didn't like it either. I especially disliked the teen character. I really wanted to cut and comb his hair!

thatchicktrish,

I agree 100% percent. I would love to see some in depth coverage of all resorts.

The scenes do go from one to another quite fast, overall, I did not like as much as past videos.

Thats what my hubby said!!! "BOB---From the ENZYTE commercial"!!!!!!!

I didnt like it either. It was too FAST, didnt explain alot, just showed a bunch of rides and you couldnt really keep up with it. I love the Disney videos of the past! I have ones from 1996-now and this is the WORST ONE EVER. We didnt even watch the special features with the resorts in it, but did the Quiz and that was super-cute.

Has anyone done the planning cd-rom? What was it like?? Im scared to put it in!!! Geeze!!!

But Im not loving the new vid AT ALL!! :guilty:

I thought it was awful, too. I much prefer an old one I have that goes into more detail about the rides and shows all the rides rather than quickly brushing through them like this one did. And I did not care for all the hosts. My old one doesn't have hosts, it just shows park guests talking about each ride. That one is great.

We always look forward to getting the planning videos or dvds even on a year we arent going to WDW. This new one is okay but I too prefer the older ones. This one is too fast and doesnt let you enjoy what you are watching. I love the WDW planning videos that focus on each park and take their time...always finishing the video with MK fireworks or something, ya know? I remember during the 100 years of magic celebration planning video I cried to that song! The current planning video just makes you want to turn it off and watch an old one.

Adding my 2 cents....I didn't like it at all. I thought it was me. We have about 4 others that are much better. I was excited to know that it was all redone as I have on several of them, the same people with the same comments. Although, love the little girl with her comments from A Bugs Life...Butterflies on the Curtain, real butterflies! Anyway, this one was so jumpy and fast that I couldn't keep up and 'get into it'. I agree about a 2nd DVD with the resorts and go into a bit more depth. My ds kept hitting the buttons every second to switch around...making me nuts. I thought if you just hit Moderate Resorts (or whatever) it would show all of them. Nope, had to keep going to the start of it.

I kind of liked it. This is our first one on DVD, and the idea of the trivia game is fun.

One comment - not to be a wet blanket - these are made by the marketing department in part to get people to come to Disney for the first time, not to be sent out as mementos for people who have already visited.

I will agree with one thing - the park bench guy was a little off the wall (almost creepy). But I'm sure they want to emphasize that there really are places to rest while you're there.

Overall, I suppose they wanted to try something different, and that's fine by me. Personally, I found some of the previous efforts a little too sappy so it's just a matter of personal taste I guess.

I don't really like this new video. They crammed way too much into the period of time (and believe it or not, this video is longer than previous ones). I like the idea of having tour guides and if they want to do that, they should slow it down, show videos of people on the rides, and possibly clips from the rides.

I think that Disney noticed that this video was a failure and so they are probably going to switch back or invest more money into it. This is because if you go to disneyworld.com, an older video is there, not the new one. To me, there is a reason for this.

As to holding the menu/play button I didn't experience this problem. All I did was pop the video in then press "Select" (play would do the same) and the video went from start to finish without any menus.

I do like the trivia game, just needs more questions and make them random questions. Or to be real fun, make a small game change to "Who Want's to Be a Disney Millionaire?" as a pun on the WWTBAM game at MGM.

I actually really liked it! Yes, Luke was a bit irritating at first, but I'm from California and only 25, with no kids (though I fully appreciate the little kid experience), and Yes, there really ARE people like that. I just kept poking fun at how it must suck to go to the parks and not be able to see anything because your hair is in your eyes. :) Luke says a few of the same things I do. (I thought I coined that "We don't need no stinking gravity" line myself!) But he does it in a FAR more obnoxious, over-the-top manner.

And Erin portrays a lot of my goofy enthusiasm.
Now as for the riding the benches... that we don't do! LOL Well, we do in Disneyland sometimes, since we're PAP holders and it's close to home for us - people watching in LA is a sport all in and of itself.
