I don't know why I feel this way when ordering room service

I feel guilty. I have no idea why I feel this way. On our 4 day, I ordered it twice, for oj and toast in the morning. I just feel that I am bothering someone. The staff is soooo nice on the ship, I just don't want to bother them. Maybe I'll feel different on our 7 day in June? Who knows, I hope so, it sure sounds like people enjoy doing this!

Only feel guilty if you don't tip them! :sunny:
They are doing their jobs.......room service is part of the pampering to me, and I tip them well for it.

So funny, I felt the same way. We only did it twice I think..... once just for cookies at bedtime..... but, the previous poster is correct...... the more people that place orders, the more they earn in tips! Just think of it as your way of stimulating the economy! I think a couple of bucks is fine for a small order, and maybe a bit more for a larger order.... indulge! enjoy!

On three cruises, I have not yet called for room service, but my teenage DD sure has!!! DD feels as though she is royalty by calling room service and having her meal (usually breakfast or lunch) delivered to the room. We leave $$ in the desk drawer so she can tip when the food is delivered, she tips quite well I must say.

My 2 teen DS's also make good use of room service. We leave them some $ for tipping but one interesting thing was that on the first cruise where they used the service when they were only 12, they found that the servers were surprised that they were offering a tip. Something to do with their age maybe. I think they also tip quite well, Andy.

Don't feel guilty, it is a service offered by the ship and you have paid for it somewhere along the way. Can you imagine if everyone said they wouldn't go to the spa because it made them feel special? That is what it is there for! Enjoy and don't forget to tip!

This isn't attacking or sarcastic, just curious if your feelings differ between the ship and on land. In any event, you are on the ship on vacation, many a vacationer may prefer to dine on the verandah, or even just while lounging in PJ's, and you are their guest. Never experienced the CM bringing the RS to your stateroom being anything other than happy to serve you. I don't do much RS on the ships, maybe three times ever. I think because the DCL room service menu is limited for most cabins, including mine, my guilt would be that I should go enjoy the selections in the restaurants. Ah, but having them bring the Mickey Bars in the evening, oh that is sublime and wonderful. Taught DS, 9, to make the call, showed him where the menu was and where the dollar bills were, and to tip no less than $2 for any trip to the door, and a few more if he ordered a bunch of stuff. He just did Mickey Bars once.

Just remember how much you paid for the cruise and I doubt you'd feel guilty again.

Imagine someone opening a store, and then no one showed up. The store owners would be very depressed, and I bet if you knew about it you'd stop in to be nice.

So think of it that way. If no one ordered room service, those poor waiters wouldn't make any money, so you're doing them a favor by ordering! It's not like they have other things to do and you're taking them away from their REAL work.

Room service has always been one of DD's favorite things on the ship--she specialized in Rice Krispies and Big Island Cookies. I've told her not more than twice a day (hee hee) and she knows where the tip money is and how much to give them. It's a big treat.

The danger is that they go to the parks and other places and think they can still do it!

My family loves room service, :cheer2: the kids thinks it is the best. We always board with a lot of ones  and we always tip well. I love the cheese platter, the kids love the cookies and my husband likes his morning coffee. Our next cruise I will have to remember the :mickeybar ! Enjoy, just tip.

We have never ordered room service. My DK's have wanted too but I have always put them off. I do not know why I have done this...I just have. Maybe it is the fear of the unknown. I have read about so many wonderful things to order from room service. I have all intentions of ordering this September. I am going to order the cheese and fruit platter and I am going to order the cake of the day daily. I think one of the reasons I have not taken advantage of room service is the fact you have so much food thrown at you constantly. However, our next cruise is without the kids. We might not be making it to several meals so I plan on using it as much as we need to.

I totally understand! I look at the hours worked by room service, wait staff, room attendants, etc and feel guilty the whole time I am on board. I know the arguement of them working for their tips, this being more money than they can earn in their "homelands", etc, etc....but I still feel some personal guilt for their situations. Of course, I was born Catholic, so I always feel guilty!

On our cruise we had 2 servers arrive one time and they encouraged us to call more often. I think they liked the tips! :)

Okay, Pacercolt and this post clinched it for me. Thanks everyone for your responses! I guess before I was imagining all the room service staff being pulled in different directions to place the order, you know, from cleaning the restaurants, or setting tables or something. Do these people literally sit behind the phones, and wait for them to ring? I wonder how it all happens.
