I dont know what to think

DS 17 dropped a bombshell on us last night. Well DH is happy, but me, being the habbitual worrier, and this being my first born child, the start of it all, the reason for life and so on and so on, has been talking to recruiting officers about going into the service.

I just dont know how I feel yet, I'm still pretty much in shock. I would NEVER in a million years have guessed that this would in anyway interest him. There is no one in either family besides my deceased FIL that was ever enlisted.

Hes got a friend from school whos going and hes been bringing him to meet with someone. I think hes going again today.

I just dont know. I know I'll miss him like crazy, I tear up at every thought of it.

Not being in that situation (yet), I would have to think that there's at least a (little) bit of pride involved in him making this kind of decision too. He wants to protect and serve our country - I think that's very admirable. Try to concentrate on those feelings instead, they might help you feel better about his choice...

Be proud that he wants to serve his country. Of course you will worry about him, but don't parents always worry about their children?

I almost always have one of those stupid proud mother faces on when ever the conversation is of him.


When the first child does something the first time, its very hard for me to adjust. Things get easier as the other kids do it, but the tears, good or bad, havent stopped since he first boarded the pre- school bus 13 years ago.

And I thought my sleepless night when my twins were born was bad. It gets worse as they get older!
