I don't know what to do

This morning my DH said he found a dog in the front yard - dog looked hot so dh brought him in the house and fed and watered him. Dog wanted to go out so dh let him.

Two hours later my dd who lives across the street came in with the same damn dog. He is an ugly mutt - has a choke collar but no tags. He is really well behaved and very friendly. He has been "fixed." His nails are in dire need of clipping.

We called the police who said to call animal control. We did. All they would do is take a description and said they would call us if someone is looking for him. I really don't want to take him to the shelter. They'll put him down and he is really a nice dog. But I don't want another dog. I share two dogs with my dd as it is.

Any suggestions?

Put up some flyers in your local supermarket/convenience store and try putting an ad in the paper advertising that you found the dog. Give its description and all and keep it, if you're willing to, for up to a few weeks. If no one claims him, then you have to decide if you're willing to take it to the shelter. I think around here we actually have an animal adoption center, so maybe look into something like that near you.

Hope you find its owner.

Do you have a Petsmart in your area? They have lost and found boards there. Someone might recognize the dog. but it is probably form within a mile radius of your house(or closer).

We found a dog a couple of weeks ago. He was back to his home in a matter of hours after we posted signs around our neighborhood. He was a well behaved gentleman during his visit, but his family sure was glad to get him back.

DH just took him to the animal shelter to see if he has a chip embedded in his skin. I have placed ads in the local newspapers. I have a sinking feeling no one is looking for him - I suppose because he has no tags. He is really a nice, well-behaved dog. Is there someone out there who might like to adopt him if I can't find his owner? Posting signs will be difficult because I don't have the material and because of the geography of our neighborhood, but I'll try tomorrow.

We called the police to see if anyone had reported him missing. This is a small town. WHen my two dogs got out I called the police to see if anybody had reported them and they sent a squad car out. I was driving around looking for them and when I passed my house there was a police car there with the dogs frolicling around it.

Why did you call the police?

Many towns are different, especially small towns. I've been flamed before (not here) for mentioning calling 911 for minor issues, but that's just what we're supposed to do here.

OP: sounds like you might have a new dog. :rotfl2:

J/K, I hope you find a caring home for the poor thing.

I don't have a camera and I don't know how to post a picture but I'll ask my dd tomorrow. I am also trying to bump this up in the hope that someone will want him. I have a sinking feeling we won't find his owner.

The animal shelter said he was 1/2 terrier and 1/2 mixed breed. He is all white except for a brown spot on his side. He is very short haired which I think will mean little shedding. He was playful with my grandson when dgs wanted to play but he is quiet and respectful with us.

He comes, sits and shakes hands. I am trying not to get attached to him, but he is really one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met.

You could try calling some of the veterinary clinics, and see if anyone reported him.

Poor puppy, I hope he can go home soon.
