I am fortunate to be able to go to Disney World a few times a year and usually try to pick when it's less crowded and the weather isn't as hot. My problem....My oldest granddaughter, who is 11, has been through a lot for her age. Let's just say, both of her parents are on their second divorces and she has heard and seen some pretty rotten things. She is a sweet girl..makes good grades and is well behaved..How she has turned out this way, I'll never know. She has been to Disney with me before...... I was thinking of maybe taking her when she got out of school..(her last day is June 9th)...just the two of us...but, I just don't know if I can take the heat! My sister and I went in May and my husband and I went in September...both times..I said it was too hot..and NEVER AGAIN....I'm sure it will be really hot (I'm from Michigan)...Is it also crowded at that time? :crowded:

Many moons ago I brought my daughter to WDW, as it happens, was June 9th. That was first and last time for us. We now go the first or second week of May. At the time of year you are looking at going, it will be crowded. That may be because the schools in Florida are already out of school.

Oh, and it should be toasty! :smooth:

June will be much better than September. It'll be hot, but better than September!

This August will be the 3rd year we will be in Orlando during August. The first year in REAL HOT!!!!!! Last year we went during that Hurricane that took place further south in Florida (also during the New York Black outs), and is was COOL (may about 73 degrees.) The locals’ thought 70-degree weather was cold - for me it was PERFECT. During the 8 days we were there, the first 4 days was in the 70's with NO RAIN!!! Toward that weekend it was in the upper 80's - 90's and a little rain. We just dealt with the heat and look forward to that afternoon rain. I live in St. Louis so I'm use to that humidity (not as bad as Florida's, but it is humid here).

I pack extra clothes, ride "wet" rides, carry those personal wet fans, bring plenty of water/juices, and loose a little weight walking all day long in that heat. It just goes along with the theme of a summer vacation.
:hyper:

We are also planning on taking the kids during the first week of June. Funny,I said the same thing last time we went in May,NEVER AGAIN!! But I can't justify taking them out of school again. It was TOO hard on them to make up their work.
So it looks like June. I look at it this way,at least it's not August or September and the crowds won't be too bad if we go early in the month.::yes::

We went the 1st week in June in 2001 and are going again this year. It was hot (but not unbearably so). There are so many cool places to go inside at Disney that we never felt it was too bad. My DD's both used one of those little fans that you can wear on your neck, so they didn't complain too much. Just go inside often and drink lots of water and eat lots of ice cream:o (I love that one especially) and hopefully all will be well. That's what I plan to do anyway. Hope your trip is great!!:D

We went a few years ago in June, and I second the "never again" vote. It was very hot, and especially humid. It rained some every day. I have heard that the closer you get to Labor Day (not including that weekend) the less crowded it is.

A lot of Southern schools, including Florida, are out by the end of May, but start back at the middle of August. Either way you go, no getting around the hot weather. Of course, since she is only 11, and a good student, maybe you could get her off school with out a lot of hard feellings in October or early November. It would be much more comfortable then.

What about her spring break? Or does her school have a fall break?

Those times will be crowded, but not hot.

I think it is wonderful you are doing this for her!
