How does this whole thing work?

People keep suggesting to me to rent DVC points, but from what i've read so far, i'm still confused.

How do you like...get the members points to make the reservation, or do they do it for you, and make note to the resort that a different person is renting the points and will be checking into the resort?
Otherwise, when you go to check in, and you don't own DVC and when you're not the person who made the reservation, wouldn't there be a problem?

Also, to make sure i'm understanding this.
So, Beach Club Villas. January weekdays are 15 points. So if someone is renting their points at $10 a point, does that mean you're spending $150 a night..?

Another question.
When it says, "Sun-Thurs" 15 points.
Does that mean that if you stay within those days each night is 15 points?
Or you HAVE to stay sunday night through thursday night and each night is 15 points?
Or if you stay sunday night through thursday night you totaly trip cost will be 15 points?

I would look at David's to get a grasp on the concept. I used them and they were great but I also use their calculator all te time when I am trying to figure out when and where I want to stay. They are a sponsor here so you should be able to find their link. Whether u rent from them or through an individual is another story but their site is helpful I think. Dvcrequest.com

You don't actually "rent points". You rent a reservation made with the member's points. The member makes the reservation in your name, you can't make the reservation yourself or modify it.

Each night is 15 points. You can stay as many nights as you like. Then Friday & Saturday are higher number of points per night. Watch the season dates. If your stay is in more than one season, each night is charged individually.

DVC is a timeshare. When members cannot use their points (as opposed to a traditional timeshare where they cannot use their week), they make a reservation using their points and sell the reservation to someone else. Members can book their home resorts (where the points are from) at 11 months out and any DVC resort at seven months out. Most members book at 7-11 months out. Late Sept to mid-January are very busy times for DVC members. Same with other holiday times (spring break, Easter, other holiday weekends).

So if you want a DVC member to make you a reservation using their points, you need to find one to do that early in the game. You can't wait until a few months or weeks out. And there are penalties when cancelling. So it's like Priceline. You bought it and you use it or not, but no refunds.

yep -if you do some research at that website, they explain a lot and walk you through what is going on.

1. Member makes a reservation for you in your name. You provide the member with all the details (names of people who will be in the villa, ages [for children], address, and phone number for contact).

Think of the member as your "travel agent." So if you want the dining plan (which you pay full price for), you tell the member who will book it for you (once you provide payment since payment is required in ADVANCE for the dining plan).

2. 15 points per night for Sunday through Thursday. So any night you stay, it will cost $150 per night (if member charges $10/point). It will be more due to PayPal fees, etc.

I think it's also VERY important that you understand the relationship involved when getting a reservation through renting from a DVC member.

You have ZERO control of the reservation. The reservation is THEIRS from Disney's eyes. If they decide to be a nasty person and cancel your reservation the day before you arrive for whatever reason, from Disney's view, they can do so. The only thing that you will have for any recourse is whatever contract you enter into with the person or company from whom you are renting the reservation. You are NOT entering into any agreement with Disney. The person/company you get the reservation from is.

Disney will not allow you to make any changes or adjustments to the reservation (because it's not yours). And, again, whomever makes that reservation has 100% control over YOUR vacation accommodations. Make sure
You enter into an agreement with someone/company you have researched and with whom you have a contract with which you feel comfortable.
