I shipped my family's Christmas presents last week so they would arrive yesterday and some genius at UPS routed the package wrong and it was sent BACK to my local hub! UGH!!! So now my family will not receive the presents until MONDAY! I shipped the gifts so I wouldn't have to carry them on the airplane on Christmas morning. I'm so mad right now and have been on hold with UPS for the past 30 minutes. This just plain stinks. :(

I guess I would have made sure they sent them express some how, at no extra charge to you, so they get there on time. Can you call them back and get that done?

Where's your local hub? can you drive to it and pick it up?

UPS makes a big deal on their website about the difference between the various services they offer, and that only with express service is anything guaranteed. They do that deliberately to keep their costs down, so that they can offer us some services at more reasonable prices. I'm glad they do, because most of the time, I can save myself a nice bit of change, just by taking a little more risk with regard to how long it takes to deliver something onto myself, instead of putting all the risk on them (and paying through the nose for the special treatment).

Luckily, Christmas is 12 days long and Chanukkah is 8 days long, so if my niece gets her Fly Pen a couple of days late (as seems likely right now, due to a delay in the delivery), no big deal.

I HATE when shipping goes wrong! I ordered special chocolates (dessert cups and liquer cups) that I planned on serving Christmas Eve. I placed the order NOV 30th, to be shipped on DEC 10th. The order went out THIS MORNING at 2AM, AFTER I called the company TWICE to find out why I didn't have them (their website says 3 day or less arrival). They've assured me that they will arrive for Christmas, but will they arrive for Christmas EVE? Forget the custard I was going to make and fill them with tomorrow.

I'll just be checking the shipping label carefully when/if they arrive to make sure I'm not charged extra for overnight shipping.

Also, if they DON'T arrive until Monday, would I be out of line to expect them to take them back (at their shipping cost) or remove the charge from my account? All of the chocoholics save one will be leaving by Monday morning.

Actually, Monday is a holiday, since Christmas is on a Sunday this year.

As I mentioned earlier, they made it very clear on their website, that in order to get any consideration for a late shipment, you had to pay for the guarantee, by choosing to ship using their "3 day Select" service (or better). I found the warning:
Important Service Announcements

Holiday Season Service Guarantees
The Service Guarantee does not apply to UPS commercial and residential Ground shipments or UPS Standard to Canada shipments that are picked up or scheduled to be delivered between December 12 and December 24.

I can see where your upset, but to say you hate UPS is sorta strong isnt it. I mean, after all...they probably had more than just YOUR christmas presents re-routed wrong...they handle more than just 10 packages a day....

I'd be upset too, but if I wanted something by a certain date, I'd have paid the guarantee'd delivery charge, after all....thats why its guaranteed

I'm not blaming UPS per se, but the chocolate company. Had they shipped them when requested (which they did with gifts I sent to others) they would be here. They DO ship them 3 day select, according to their website. However, thank you for posting the fine print, as I'll be sure that anything I send UPS in the future gets sent BEFORE Dec 12th.

There's more terms and conditions on the website that are relevant to your situation. As Elaine mentioned, Monday is a holiday, so if they shipped them today, I believe that 3-day Select would guarantee delivery by Tuesday or Wednesday. (I couldn't tell if they count the 3 business days from time of registration of the package, which seems unlikely, or from the time of pick-up, which seems more likely.)

Could be they were on the fed-ex truck that was demolished last Friday on the washington beltway. Pkgs were everywhere. They could of sent all those back to the starting point so they could agin route them where they were supposed to be.

Yeah I actually read the tracking wrong, it said to be delivered on WEDNESDAY!! the 28th!

Anyway, I stopped at UPS and the men there are so nice. He looked through tons of boxes in the trailers and found mine!! I just received a call at work and was ecstatic! He said he would overnight them for me, but I'm going to pick it up at lunch and I'll just put the gifts in a suitcase and check it because there is always that chance they won't show up.

Oh and realize times aren't guaranteed, however, THEY misrouted my package. Entirely different than it just not getting there on time.

Yup it's strong and oh well. They are MY Christmas presents and if this happened to you, surely you would be upset. I paid for my package to go from point A to point B. Not to go from point A and back to point A before getting to point B.

How wonderful! I love happy endings. It was great of those guys at UPS to help you out like that - they must be working so hard right now.

Merry Christmas!

They are so nice at that location. I'm going to stop and get them a tray of cookies or something to show my appreciation because most people wouldn't have bothered to look for it.

Well, that's actually the reason they offer guarantees. Without the guarantee, they're not promising to get your package there in time, regardless of the reasons. With the guarantee, they are promising to do so, even if they misroute the package by accident.

Glad to hear that things are going to work out well for you!

Na, I wouldnt have sent anything for christmas without the guarantee'd delivery, my brother has been a UPS man for a very long time and I understand what happens to packages, not just around christmas. Heck, I had a computer shipped from Staples to a place in California- I live in Vermont...stuff happens, I chose not to let it get to me....If it was done on purpose, then yeah I'd really be pissed, but given the amount of packages they go through, I'd have chalked it up to "shudda used the guaranteed delivery, because then it would be on them to make good"...in this case, well sounds like they tried to make good, and you declined

Well obviously they can and I'm sure do make mistakes with "guaranteed" delivery so had I have mailed the package three day ground guaranteed the package still wouldn't have been there by the third day because they misrouted it to come back to the original hub ;)
