I don't consider corn a "seasonal vegetable"

As someone whose kids have grain allergies corn is definitely considered a grain in that respect. Nutritionally, it's also more of a starch and in line with grains as well. I'm with you in that I don't consider this a vegetable. If I'm eating a balanced meal and looking at a plate with corn on it I would count it as a carb not a veggie.

I'd be disappointed if that was all they offered as well. Even if one considered it a veggie there are far healthier options.

I also don't think of starchy vegetables as traditional veggies mostly because from a diabetic stand point, if I'm taking large amounts of insulin to counteract it, then it's a carb ... yes, a carby vegetable, but I'm looking for things that give me the vitamins and minerals minus the healthy dose of narcolepsy. :)

I'll take corn in a pinch but usually when I am craving a vegetable (and yes, I do crave them and get cranky if I haven't had any in awhile!), corn won't do the trick. If the corn they are serving is canned corn, that's even worse and pretty lazy. I'm sure the reasoning is that picky eaters usually do like corn, both people I know who refuse to touch green vegetables do like corn, but they should still have a vegetable that actually has vitamin K in it available too.

If they are serving the substance from a can, it's NOT seasonal. And you can bet that 99% of "seasonal" offerings at WDW are out of a can...or from a frozen state. Or Arendelle.:earboy2:
My thoughts exactly. Not to take anything away from the food court--I love the All Stars food courts--but it's a little naive to think someone's in the back husking the corn and cutting it off the cob. Even in corn season.

Maybe they're just taking liberties with typical menu vocabulary and applying "seasonal" to puff it up a bit.

That said, you should still be able to get green beans, broccoli or even a brussels sprout or two--all are pretty good from frozen even if it's not practical to cook them fresh.

Oh, and a tomato is botanically a fruit.:D

As are cucumber, zucchini, squash, pumpkin, pepper, avocado, etc. Not sure where the nutritional distinctions between fruits and veggies came from.

I never ever thought of corn as a grain although I did know it was considered a starch nutritionally. I just never thought about it. I do wish there were better veggie options. I wish there were better fruit options too (seems carrots and grapes are the default on the kids meals). But QS is QS. I don’t expect good veggie options at McD’s either ...

I think the issue here is that you were searching a food court menu. It's a food court. That's one step down from a food truck. :confused3
Or several steps down, depending on the food truck. Food trucks in my neck of the woods are often A++ artisan. Food courts are more like popping into Burger King.

Maybe it is the cans that are seasonal, with different label designs for each season!
Eh, to some extent. Food is put into cans seasonally. In theory, stuff is picked fresh then canned to preserve.

I think it's across restaurants in general, not just Disney. My mom is always having an issue at our local restaurants when all of the vegetables on a day are all considered starches

Get yourself a big plate of corn and mashed potatoes mixed together for a veritable salad! :P

My husband loves corn And mashed potatoes mixed, if I’m making mashed potatoes I have to make corn to go with it, he’s weird like that :)

People are actually this fussy at a value resort food court? While in vacation for what...a week? Have mercy!

Indeed. People who can only afford a VALUE resort should be thrilled with every aspect of their vacation. They are lucky that Disney even allows them on property. Sheesh.

I think the point was that QS at a value resort (or really QS anywhere) should not be expected to have fresh, stellar food. Also, it’s a vacation so spending a week eating less healthy food shouldn’t be a big deal. The OP can be upset, but this shouldn’t be enough to derail someone’s vacation at all.

I read...

Interesting points of view! Thanks for sharing.

I looked through the cold cases more thoroughly this evening...

I thought...

Cold cases? Has this been brought up a lot? Are there old threads? Why are they referring to old, unclosed police investigations?

Teacher-brain... like eggs, it’s fried & scrambled.

I would be disappointed in corn as the seasonal vegetable. To me, it's another starch.

Exactly! Couldn't have said it better!

I'll take some lingonberries from Arendelle.

I was given a bushel of sweet corn last summer. I cut it off the cob and pressure canned a bunch of jars. I didn’t expect much but it’s been delicious. Not as good as Jersey corn - but way better than frozen.

This really depends where you live... for us fresh corn on the cob is... (Right now we're sitting under a blanket of snow about 6 inches thick we'd love some local fresh "seasonal" corn on the cob) .... canned corn ...not so much
