I do not want to dress up with a jacket on formal night. I have nor room in my luggage. I just want to where dress pants a long sleeve shirt and a tie, nothing more than that. Do others dress like that too.

One option is to eat at the buffet or have room service instead.

Yes, that's fine. You're dressing in the spirit of the formal night -- even though you're not wearing a dark suit or tuxedo. You'll fit right in. There will be other men wearing dress shirts and ties too, either because they took their coats off or because they didn't bring coats.

There are some people who make no effort at all. That's a different story.

(By the way, the Disney Magic has one formal night and one semi-formal night during 7-night cruises. The Disney Wonder does not have formal or semi-formal nights, although jackets are suggested for Triton's.)

I don't plan to take a dress shirt or a tie. Why should I dress up on vacation? For those that think I'm wrong :teeth: I will go to the dining room dress very relaxed ,ready to enjoy my meal. :cool1:

My husband has not taken a jacket on any of our cruises. Just too big to pack, too hot to wear etc......he always wears a nice shirt and tie on formal night! Don't worry about the jacket at all!! :sunny:

Always love these dress debate threads... where is my popcorn??? Only thing better is when someone mentions that someone else is a bad parent ;)

If you don't wear a jacket, by God - you're lucky the government doesn't come and take your children away! What kind of parent doesn't dress up for dinner.... Ward, pass the popcorn! ;)

Honestly, why start the thread? Is anything anyone says going to change your mind? The dress code is clearly stated. If you choose not to adhere to it, no one here can stop you, nor can they give you some kind of special dispensation. What would you care how others dress?

Do whatever you're going to do--it doesn't need to be a matter of public debate  .

Peirlig.

Why answer the tread and waste your time. If you having nothing to say then be quiet.

Okay, we LOVE to get dressed up and we are ordering the TWO jacket tux package for my DH on our Western next November. I can't wait to see him in the white jacket (ladies? anyone else thinking Dream Date???)
Hubba Hubba!

Being a rebel is not necessarily a bad thing. May I suggest how incredible all men look when they spiff up a bit? As painful as it may seem, your SO will see a whole different side to you. I vote white jacket, black pants/tie/cummerbund and a manicure. Live a little! You will be on vacation!

Give it to me!!! :cool1:

I'll be too busy looking at my great wife and daughters to even notice if other people are there, let alone what they are wearing.

Have to say my poor Dh was a whole different story last year. Oh he had a coat, pants, shirt, just did not have a tie to match the rest or shoes. LOL
Dh was in Florida working and I had to pack him. One thing in 13 years of marriage I have never done. I thought he had shoes in Florida and would be bringing them. I was wrong. The ties I brought...LOL...I just grabbed a few and did not look at them. He bought a nice dinsey tie and then did not wear it.

Sorry to anyone he might have upset. He did look rather funny all dressed up with tennis shoes on.

Actually, aren't these the stories that just make our vacations? LOL! If anyone was upset by the tennies, then apparently they haven't been watching the Awards shows on TV the past few years. It's all the rage to dress up your body and dress down your feet! Personally, I'd have thought your DH was just a cool dude.

BTW, the Palo dress code SPECIFICALLY says no "Tommy Bahama type shirts"...so naturally the guy behind us at dinner was wearing one with Tommy's name literally emblazoned all over the back in huge block letters. Hey, maybe it was Tommy himself!

HAve fun, wear what you want and enjoy your meals. Most people don't care and the ones that do... :confused3 hookairs! They are not the ones making the rules or enforcing them and the dress code isn't a code at all it is a suggestion. :earsboy:

Do you know when the 2007 Alaska itineraries will be out? I heard the 3rd and 4th Disney ships will be sailing that way out of LA.

For my real $0.02, I am planning on wearing a tux to formal night, and a tie with my dress shirt on semi-formal night. That's the dress code, so you should respect it, regardless if you're on vacation or not. If you don't like it, don't cruise or go to Topsiders/BBB.

That's a fundamental point repeatedly made when Royal Caribbean's dress code is discussed. They very specifically use the word "suggested". Is that the case with DCL as well? I was under the impression that they didn't soften their dress code in that manner, saying something like, "On dress-up nights, men wear jackets and..."

That has got to be the WEAKEST excuse I have ever heard. You are essentially saying that just because you are on vacation, you don't have to obey any rules (and yes, I know, the dress code is a "suggestion"). I swore I wasn't going to get in this discussion, but that statement is just such a weak excuse it amazes me.
