I have to tell this on my neice. She is a very privledged (and very sweet) child. My BIL makes a very good living and he enjoys spending it. lol They have many vehicles, including a classic Camaro. There is a point to this, I promise. I have a 2009 Dodge Caliber, very plain, stick shift, no power windows or door locks - It is exactly what I wanted. It has a lifetime powertrain warranty and I intend to drive it for a very, very long time.

Anyway, DN(12) gets into my car, grabs the window crank and says, "I didn't know modern cars had these!" Cracked me up! Then when we got out of the car, I asked her to lock the door. She looked so confused and said, "With my HAND?" Yes, dear. With your hand. :rotfl:

Honestly I didn't know they made non power windows anymore either. :confused3

Thats so funny!

I could definitely see how she could think that though, if she's exposed to older cars and then much newer cars with all the bells and whistles!

my boyfriend drives an 07 Chevy Colorado and he doesn't have power locks or windows. I have an 04 Kia Optima and I have both. I think it really depends on the maker.

:lmao:

I didn't either. Did you get the car used? Are you sure they didn't change the year, just to make the car sound newer that it actually is? ;)

Do you at least have power steering and power brakes? :scratchin

Did I say 2009.... maybe it was 1909!?!?! It does have power steering, power breaks and a CD player! :scared1: And, I almost forgot the MOST important "extra" A/C, really, really cold A/C! Oh and a silly refrigerator in the glove box. :confused3

If I bought a new car every three or four years, I would definitely want power windows and doorlocks. They are nice. But, seven or eight years down the road, I don't want to have to pay for them when they break!

My next vehicle will be with non powered windows. It cost me a small fortune to have the window fixed when the power track broke!

I've sworn to DH that I will pay EXTRA to have non-power windows in our next auto. We have repaired the four windows in our car a total of 6 times, and three are now non-functioning again. I'm fed up with "power" anything. Give me the good old days.

:rotfl2: Love it! I too drive a car with NO bells and whistles other than air conditioning! It's a 1997 Camry with about 195,000km (or just over 120,000mi for you folks :cool2:). Manual locks, manual start, manual windows; sometimes it feels like I've stepped out of the Dark Ages! I automatically lock my door whenever I get out of ANY car now.

The truck we traded in on this car had over 250,000 miles on it. It was a 1994 Ford F150.

I had a devil of a time finding a new Suburban without power windows, and that was back in 1987 when my son was 6 months old. Didn't want him playing with the switches (power windows in those days didn't have a shut off switch at the driver's position)
Power windows were an extra cost option, but the dealers always ordered that option.
Funny, the tailgate window is power, and it just cost me $450 to fix that. Yes, I still have that truck 23 years later.
And yes, even in 2010, a lot of cars can still be purchased without power windows, but since so few people want manual windows, few dealers order cars without the power window option.

And another thing that happens is automakers make power windows standard to folks like you and I, but fleet buyers have the option of manual or power. That's why a lot of rental cars don't have power windows. Same thing with ABS brakes, standard for you and I, optional for fleet buyers.

DH got a verrrrry basic Cobalt yesterday and I had the exact same reaction.

I had no clue they still made cars without power windows. :confused3

Add us to the list. My DH drives a 2002 Toyota Tacoma, stick shift, no power windows, no automatic door locks. He wouldn't have it any other way.

My work runner is a 94 Honda Civic. Yes, it does have power windows and door locks, but on the rare time that I take the kids somewhere in it, they run to the car and try opening the door expecting it to be unlocked. Then they yell back at me as I'm still 20 feet from the car, "Come on Dad, unlock the doors!"

Er... I'll unlock the doors as soon as I unlock mine with the key, open mine, and hit the power lock button on the inside to unlock yours.

They may still have manual windows, but I'd bet it is tough to find them. Dealers aren't going to have many sitting on a lot and they are 99% of the time only willing to sell exactly what they have in inventory.

Manual transmissions are another story. Ticks me off that I can barely find a car that has a manual transmission available. I can't drive an automatic, they are useless.

Too funny!!!!!

I have a Caliber, But mine has power everything, leather wrapped wheel, it is a moonsilver gray color and we had the windows tinted fairly dark... It actually looks sharp. (especially for the price) I like it! It is a caliber that doesn't look or drive like an economy tin-can. :thumbsup2

That reminds me of my friend's daughter who had just gotten her driver's license. She needed to put some gas in her car before she went to a friend's house, but came back just a few minutes after she left. My friend asked her why she didn't go to her friend's and her DD replied, "I didn't know how to get gas with cash"! HAHA, we all had a good laugh! When she had her permit and was driving with her mom, she'd give the daughter her credit card to get gas with but had never used cash.

We rented an economy car on our last WDW visit and it did not have power locks or windows. I have to be honest, I was pretty floored that they still made cars that way. I guess I have just never seen that in a really long time.:flower3:
