I didn't know house painting was this hard!!

We did DDs bedroom last weekend, it took us three freaking days! It was insane.

Ok, first of all, that spray on texture stuff is the work of the devil. The previous owners used it ALL over the dang house and it's about as uneven as it comes! (not to mention the whole wall in our room that's a hand textured swirly thing that may take years of sanding to get rid of) So DDs room was sponge painted mint green on this horrid textured wall - it took two coats of base primer and then the two Disney princess colors she picked out to cover the crap up. DH still has pink spots on his clothes, they may never go away. But the two hours she spent running around her room and hugging the walls saying "me sooooooo happy in my Cinderella room" was well worth the blisters and pain!

I second that!! One time we painted with Home Depot paint...NEVER AGAIN! It took 3 coats to cover well. I only use Benjamin Moore now and most of the time it covers with one coat!

ditto to the quality paints.. how ever if you do your home work, check around and live in some of the areas of our fine country that has a climate that wont let paint last more than a few years anyways( i e deep south) you can get sherwin williams, dutch boy, benj moore, the good brands,, at discount prices ,,,we seldom pay more than 15 a gallon,, unless its a floor and deck paint, or polyurethANE which we go ahaed and buy the name brands for example,, sherwin williams manufactors wal marts color place paints, its one layer below the sherwin williams a 100 in our area the humidity and the chemical fall out from our local paper mill( i know its safe now epa checking and all, i'm talking about the stuff that been around for years) we get about 5 yrs out of paint,, we painted our house with a top priced valspar imho one of hte best paints i ever tryed,, it lasted three years and is starting to peel now
