I didn't know ducks could get embarrassed.

Outside of the office complex that I work at is a large pond where several ducks happen to live. There are the office buildings, then the pond, then the parking lot. The other day I was walking from the parking lot to go in to work and I glanced over and noticed several ducks in the middle of the drive part of the parking lot ganging up on another duck. They had this poor duck surrounded and they were doing this in the way of where cars would drive through.

Concerned that some of the ducks would get hit by a car and feeling sorry for the duck that was getting beaten up, I began walking towards their direction to scare them off. As I approached I noticed that one duck had the poor duck penned to the ground while the other ducks formed a circle around them. I shook my keys to get their attention but most of them ignored me. As I came closer more ducks began to take notice of me and took a few steps back but none of them ran off as I expected them too. I finally reached them and looked down at the two ducks in the middle of the circle to realize that the poor duck wasn’t being picked on but rather that the poor duck must have been a female and her ‘attacker’ obviously a male and I interrupted them doing the ‘wild thing’.

All ducks finally scampered off in fright of me but I swear the female duck was blushing as she ran off. I didn’t know that a duck could look so embarrassed. She was the last one to leave, scampering off after the male ducks, with her body stiff and giving me a weary look. I felt bad for interrupting them but geeze! Couldn’t they have picked somewhere else but the middle of a parking lot to do it?
