I did it!!! Now what to try next.

My own order for intensity (I know it's subjective) would be as follows:

Mission Space: Green
Space Mountain (darkness is the key factor here)
Expedition Everest (going backwards is factor here)
Tower of Terror
Star Tours (lots of moving around in your seat)
R&RC
Mission Space: Orange (I am not prone to motion sickness and this one made me weak)

I must have been holding my breath, but not sure if that's the reason.

I found this post in reply to my post in an old thread.

Correct. The key is to forcibly exhale (i.e. screaming or yelling). It works on large drops, too. I learned that as a kid, and I went from being afraid of even the smallest drops to heading directly to the biggest coasters I could find.

In terms of motion sickness, I would suggest Tower of Terror as your best bet. Think of it as a series of Splash Mountain drops.

In terms of scare factor, I would suggest Mission Space: Green as your best bet. The new version is pretty tame.

So I'm a bit of a ride chicken. To be fair I have awful motion sickness and even with Bonine I still experience some queasiness. When I was there a couple weeks ago though I went on Splash Mountain for the first time ever. My 6 year old really wanted to do it so I sucked it up and was surprised to find it really wasn't that bad.

Now I find myself wondering if there are any other rides that aren't as bad as I fear that maybe I should give a try.

These are the ones I've never done:
Star Tours (I have always avoided because I was told is similar to the old Body Wars)
Space Mountain
R&RC
Expedition Everest
Mission Space
Tower of Terror

I think those are the only ones
I haven't done. Space makes my sister sick and she hated ToT. My husband feels sick on Everest so those make me particularly nervous.

Just wondering if anyone else found these rides to be less intense or nausea inducing than they expected.

Thanks!

I can't handle Star Tours at all. Space didn't bother me as far as motion sickness, but I had a headache after that I assumed was because it is so jerky. EE bothered me a little bit, but I was fine a few minutes later. ToT didn't bother me, but I don't care to ride it again. I haven't tried RnR or MS.

1st time I went on Everest I got nauseous A friend who works in the pulmonary section of a hospital said to scream during the ride. It worked for me. Now I just have to tell the person sitting next to me that I will be screaming!

I find this so interesting to hear, since I've been giving this advice out for years but have no medical knowledge as to why it works. In my experience, if you are trying to avoid the "stomach in your throat" feeling, then holding your breath is the worst thing you can do, while screaming (pushing air out, the opposite of holding your breath) works wonders. I'm a dedicated ride screamer due to this! I always let my ride companions know so they can be prepared. :D

As I have aged I have noticed just closing my eyes and turning my body in the shower makes me nauseated...ok not really but very close.

I used to be able to tolerate loops but the twisty loops I could deal with them but would avoid them. Again with age things have changed.

Splash mountain is tame for me, no loop, just the drop.

Star Tours..did it once and I kept looking for the dot to stare a so I wouldn’t puke. I was probably around 18 and could do loops then. So I was done (I knew body wars and didn’t like that either).

Space Mountain-last time we went to Disney 5 years ago, I could do it but noticed it seemed rougher. But no to little nausea.

R&RC-the only time I did it, I couldn’t comprehend life after....haha! Ok we did ToT and then went on that. If there wasn’t a spirally loop I could do it.

EE-tolerable. I think the nerves are what got me. The nerves saying “am I going to throw up”. My kids liked it so I might have to do it...sigh...

MS-too scared to try.

ToT-my DH and I were just talking about this a few hours ago. We both think we can do it again. The drops aren’t horrid, just scary as you don’t know when. But no loops. But it’s been pre kids since we went on this and our oldest is 17!

Soaring does me in. I can handle all the other rides posted, but having my feet dangle makes me feel uneasy.

Mission: Space Orange- No way
Mission: Space Green- makes me a little queasy
Star Tours- can’t do it unless my eyes are closed
Expedition Everest- only bothers me when it goes backward. I can handle it once per trip.

DITTO

Tower of Terror is the only one that sticks out to me as not causing much motion sickness. All the others (from personal experience and my mother who is very prone to motion sickness) would make us sick.

I ranked the rides in order that causes motion sickness for my family. #1 is the least.

1. Tower of Terror
2. Space Mountain
3. R&RC (close your eyes--it really does make a difference!)
4. Expedition Everest (I would skip this one if I were you. My mother has to skip it. I can only ride once).
5. Mission Space Green Level/Less Intense (I would skip this one if I were you. My mother has to skip it. I can only ride once).
6. Star Tours (This one is major no no for anyone with motion sickness :sad2: . I have mild motion sickness and this for me makes it medium intense. I can only do it once and my mother skips it).
