We had horrible weather here yesterday. We got about 6" of snow. Well, my DW wanted to go to the Longaberger place to get the new basket that is out. I was getting cabin fever and once I am in the car it does not bother me to drive in the snow. Well, Seth didn't want to go with us so he wated to go see his Nanny (my mom) fine no problem.

When I went to pick him up there is a house on the corner with a bunch of little dogs. Can you see where this is going? The dogs always chase the car, everybodys car. I ran over one of the little dogs. I was sick. I have never hit an animal in my life. I couldn't get out of the car because of all the snow. I feel so bad. The owner lets these little dogs wonder all over the place and animal control has been called on her numerous times.

I feel so bad!:(

:( Atleast you didn't have Seth with you at the time, that would only make you feel worse. {{hugs}}

It was an accident! You can't blame yourself!! Thats why it makes me so mad when people let their animals wander outside. I have 3 dogs and they have a huge fenced in backyard to play in. I also have 5 cats who only go outside in the backyard and only when I'm outside with them. I know a lot of our neighbors and alot of my friends let their cats out and they don't go out of the yards but the thought of "What if" terrifies me.....nope my babies will stay inside.

You can not blame yourself! The people who own these animals are to blame. I know this doesn't make you feel any better about what happened though. YOU have a conscious and a soul. I can not say that about people who let their animal roam freely!

I have one cat, who is only allowed outside on a chain. People do look at her when she's out and I think they all think I'm nuts for chaining her, but until Sabrina can guarantee me that she will not attack small animal or birds, can look both ways before crossing the street and be home by curfew, then the chain stays!:)

I'm sorry that happened, I know you feel bad, but it was an accident, I'm glad you didn't have a wreck!

The person that did the horrible thing was the owner that didn't care enough about her pets to keep them out of harm's way:mad:
...and also for causing you such grief and guilt :(

While it's wrong that she lets her dogs run, you should at least apologize for what you did. If you know who she is, a simple phone call could be made.

Why would 6" of snow stop someone from getting out of the car?

Did you at least call someone to let them know in case the little dog was hurt and not killed and could be helped?

Sorry, but I agree with the previous post.

The people were idiots for letting the dogs run, and I'm sure you didn't hit it on purpose. That said, you should have stopped. The animal may have still been alive. Even if it only had a few seconds left and was beyond help, you could have given it some comfort.

It was an accident. Please don't berate yourself for it happening. She should have kept her dogs either inside or contained within her yard.

I can imagine how I would feel. I once hit an opposum, and I felt bad for weeks. :( It's not nice to take another life, but sometimes it just can't be avoided, no matter how cautious a driver you are. :(

Oh that's so sad, but it was an accident. People shouldn't let their pets run around. I get so mad when I see that.

For those who wonder why he didn't get out, I believe mhopset has a disability and wouldn't have been able to get out of the van in the situation he described. Not that I am answering for him. Just didn't want people to think badly.

I guess it's a good thing her kids weren't out playing in the snow...would you have stopped if you hit a kid?

I second what Miss Jasmine has posted! It seems like a post for support has turned into an attack.

What's that expression about "casting the first stone"....

With that said, Tony, I am VERY sorry for some of the sentiments that have been directed towards you. There has been times when I have posted something with good intent, only to have others direct horrible comments to me. :( I'm truly sorry....

How sad. :( I'm sorry this happened to you. :(

I don't see where it says in mhopset's post that DW was with him when he went to pick up Seth. He says, "When I went to pick him up ..."

Nobody is blaming him for hitting the dog and everyone can empathize with him. I'm sure he feels just awful but from what he has written in his post, it does sound like he was negligent. Hopefully, he wasn't.

I didn't realize that mhopset had a disability and that would explain why he didn't stop. It just didn't sound very good in his post without an explanation.

If mhopset had posted that his little dog had gotten hit by a car and nobody stopped, everyone on these boards would have been in an uproar.

<font color=navy>So sorry that you went through that - it is an awful experience... for you, the pup, and the owner.

Hugs,

I think a lot of it has to do with how well you know the poster and their previous posts. If you don't know the poster at all, you only see what is printed. If you know the poster, I think you tend to read between the lines.
