I desperately need advice....

Well, it's 11am..not a call or response to my email last night, though she still has not read it.
I would had thought that if she really wanted Gigi, she would had called me like she first said, so Gigi must not be that important to her.

I have been trying desperately to find a vet open today to at least get her rabies shots and tag but none are open today. She is scheduled for Wednesday, so we will have to wait.

We did take a trip to Petsmart this morning, Gigi got plenty of new treats! The X-mas section had alot of toys, treats at 50% off!

I can't see myself returning Gigi and to someone who is going to use her for breeding. She is only 9 months old and weighs no more than 5lbs.

Nope!...Gigi is staying with us!

Good for you!! You're doing the right thing. Just don't let her out in the yard without you, make sure she's in your sight at all times. You'd be surprised at the crazy things people pull.

I emailed her last night and told her about having her spayed and shots given on Wednesday and she bluntly wrote
"Don't neuter her just yet... If I am able to keep her at my apartment i've decided not to neuter her.. later on I would like to breed her... I will call you before I stop by."

I think you're doing the right thing by keeping the dog. Sounds like she's just planning on coming by sometime today to pick up the dog. I would not answer your phone or your front door today. Good luck!

Nope, neither would I!

How rude!! I can't believe she would lie about her intentions....my goodness she could have just asked if you would dogsit, I mean the worst you would have said is no.
So glad you decided to keep her!

Just want to chime in here to say I agree you should keep the dog and not have anything more to do with the previous owner--she does not sound like a decent human being and she is obviously lacking in good intentions! Glad Gigi will have a good home.:flower3:

Thank You all for your advice, I was really worried about this and somewhat I still am. I don't want to lose her in a legal battle in court.

FYI, it's 2pm and still not heard a peep from the ex co-worker:sad2:

I wouldn't worry about court. She doesn't sound like the type who would be willing to go to the trouble to take you to court. I agree with the others, however. Keep her close to you for awhile.

And you may not since you stood your ground  .

Actually, I was in a position kinda like this with my ex hubby, he didn't want the dog when we split up, so I took the dog (even though I barely could afford to feed myself, much less the dog) but we got along. A few weeks later, we wants "visitation" rights to the dog, hounding me. I told him "no way". Never heard again about it once I stood my ground. Come to find out, he was dating a lady with a child, just wanted the child to have a "plaything" at the house :sad2:

Hope you don't hear another word from the mean lady and good luck to you and Gigi :thumbsup2

Save this thread somewhere in case (but I doubt it) that this does become a legal issue of ownership. You can have proof of a time line for today, and how you waited, but she never came, never called etc. :)

If it becomes a legal issue, with your emails, and her actions or in-actions, I don't see how you can lose. :)

I agree, I really doubt she will do anything other than be bothersome for a while (maybe some nasty emails or phone calls). She doesn't sound mentally organized enough to pursue this with much effort.

. That dogs are allowed in her apartment complex NOW and as long they are quiet, no deposit is required.

"Don't neuter her just yet... If I am able to keep her at my apartment i've decided not to neuter her.. later on I would like to breed her... I will call you before I stop by."

Aside from what all the others have said about this--THIS WOMAN IS A DINGBAT!!! Read the parts I left above--"If I am able to keep her at my apartment" ???? Didn't she already say that the apartment will allow pets? And that is BULL!

Apartments don't just all the sudden change their minds to allow pets! They either do or don't. And they don't base deposits on if the animal is "quiet" the deposit is for the usually associated damage and smells that an animal will leave in an apartment--and all pet owners have to pay no matter what pet it is.

The only reason she isn't going to pay a deposit if the dog is quiet is 'cause she hopes no one will know it is there. And what will she do if it is discovered???? Who will she give it to next when the landlords try to evict her for having an illegal pet?

Keep this furbaby--get her neutered ASAP and protect this wonderful pet from this woman at all costs!

I don't think you can lose her. I do think she used you for boarding. Maybe "in her mind" she decided to give her away to make her trip easier (no paying for boarding, etc.), but when she got back, that was no longer a factor.

You have emails saying she wanted you to take her, you did, and you've provided care for her.

You are 100% in the right.

If for whatever reason you decided to return the dog, figure out what the per day boarding fee would have been if she paid someone (I know in our case it would add up to a pretty hefty amount for that timeframe) and give her a bill (along with all of the other expenses). She'll change her tune then, I suspect. She's looking at that dog as a way to increase her cash flow!

This makes a lot of sense. Apartments either allow pets or not.

I tend to agree that she is going to try to hide the dog in her apartment.

I haven't read the whole thread, so don't know if this has been mentioned. But if not, I would suggest that to add to your further protection, e-mail her and tell her you want to see a copy of the lease where it states dogs are allowed. Also tell her you are going to call the complex and double check that her apartment is ok for dogs.

That would take care of any ideas of trying to sneak the dog into her apartment.

I wouldn't do this. It's a good tactic if you are planning on returning the dog and want to ensure it will have a home.

But, if the OP leaves any wiggle room for 'you can have her back IF.." the other lady has a case to make that the OP is unsure of whose dog it really is.

IMO, the OP needs to maintain that this is HER dog now, period.

And I agree, this woman is full of it. Her apt didn't change anything. Pet rules are very specific in leases, and there is usually a deposit and/or monthly charge attached. She is planning on sneaking the dog back in. She probably moved there and realized other people are getting away with it. Or they always did allow pets, but didn't want to pay for it and thinks they wouldn't notice one more animal.

But, it is definitely risky for the dog because if she gets caught, you know she won't move...she will just pass it off on someone else, possibly even a shelter.

you make an excellent point :thumbsup2

I retract my suggestion.:goodvibes

Or maybe she isn't really trying to sneak this dog in anywhere. Maybe she has found someone who is willing to give her money to take this unneutered pet to breed. And that is why her apt. story has had inconsistencies, because she wants to sell Gigi to someone else, not sneak her in.
Either way, she sucks, please keep the dog!

That could be too...I dunno. Hadn't thought of that. Ugh, that is a horrible thought. But definitely possible.

I got a response just now!

Hey!!! I just got back...hope your new year's was good. As for Gigi, I would like to have her back. My place allows pets and I REALLY miss her. The new apartment is great, very spacious.. and I couldn't be happier with my b/f. Things are going really well with us

I'm not even going to respond to her!

She has got some big brass ones, hasn't she???

What did your original email she is responding to say?

Stand your ground. This chick is no good for that little dog, not to mention presumptuous and ungrateful to you.

In my last email I asked if she was asking for Gigi back because I was confused with her emails, she kept changing her story..
So basically she was lying to me when she stated she wanted to visit with Gigi today and pick her up to spend time with her.
She was going to steal her!
