I declined 2 resort upgrades last week

As crazy as it sounds it's true! My husband and I took a child-free quick trip to Disney last week. I have a relative who was a cast member and she got us a discount on a prefered room at All Star Sports. We arrived at the resort around 2pm and our room wasn't ready, which was fine, so we dropped our bag and headed to the Ploy for lunch, then into Magic Kingdom. Around 5 p.m. I received a call from All Star Sports saying they no longer had the room that we paid for available. The woman on the phone said it was my lucky day and they were offering me an upgrade to Coronado Springs! I hesitated, and then I said I actually wasn't interested in saying there, as we had already stayed there and it was too big for us. She said she would check to see what other rooms they had available at other resorts. She called back about five minutes later and said "well I was able to get you into a deluxe Resort!" I was really excited, until she told me it was Saratoga Springs. I told her again I wasn't interested in that Resort. She said to give her a few minutes and she would call me back again, and then about two minutes later we got a text saying that our room It All Star Sports was ready for us :)

I'm sure they though I was being a brat, but we were only there 2 nights and didn't want to stay at a huge resort.

We ended up with the perfect room at Sports, so it all worked out in the end for us. And I assume someone else was offered an upgrade they wanted.

It's your vacay & your choice where to stay..
If you were happy with your 1st choice-and managed to stay there (eventually!!) that's fab.

I probably would have turned down SS but not CS. I actually don't find it all that big, but I can understand turning it down. I've turned down upgrades to CL a couple of times.

Is this an occurrence that happens more often than we know or is it merely an anomaly?

I would not have wanted those resorts either! We have turned down upgrades at AKL many times for a savannah view room too! We prefer pool view and dont want those rooms way down the halls. They looked at me like I was nuts! We book what we like and what we want for our needs.

I totally get it, we wouldn't take either of those "upgrades" either.

I would have taken CS but turned down SS. I'm sure someone else was happy to get the upgrade. Taking any resort change would throw me for a loop since I plan things around travel and distance.

Sometimes rooms are removed from service due to unforeseen maintenance issues. Another scenario: Someone is ready to book rack rate at All Stars and another room is vacant at a different resort, better to have someone paying the full rate at All Stars (more people on property) and the person with the original reservation gets bumped into a room which was going to be empty anyway.

Makes complete sense! Smart on Disney's end and great for the party receiving the upgrade! Thanks for the information!

Or they had someone checking into Sports that day with a week long reservation but due to some unforeseen issue, they had no room in that category empty for a week. Cheaper to upgrade the 2 night stay person to CSR/SSR than to upgrade the week long people.

Good catch!

You bet! So now you have a family who feel pixie dusted and return home saying how great WDW is. :)

I got an upgrade once where I lost a bed at Pop Century with my mom. Meant that I slept on a rollaway for five days. They couldn't move me to another resort because all of the Values were sold out. Totally understand your viewpoint on this.
