I.D Needed?

I'm 27 and here now, been IDd exactly 50% of the time.

They only give you two beers per ID, too!

We first started going in 1993 when I was 26, never been asked for ID for alcohol in all the years we have been going, neither has DW.
In 1993 we went with relatives, we spent one night at Pleasure Island, they wouldn't serve relative with alcohol age 25.
Chances are if you have ID they won't ask, if you don't they will.

Only time I get asked for ID is when using a credit card.

right - i forgot about that - i'm often asked for my ID when i use my credit card in certain malls in the US - not all malls, but certain ones seem to have a policy of asking for IDs, even for not that significant amounts.

Not in the US but the extreme stories reminded me. My sister who is 22 was buying me a bottle of wine when she was with my DD who was 13. Now DD is not the plastered with make-up type and looked her age. Amazingly they asked for ID which my sister produced and they said not for you.... For her (pointing at DD). My sister said but she is 13 she does not have ID I am buying for myself .

They did serve her, and I realise there are penalties but lets be realistic if you were buying for someone 'clearly' underage you would hardly have them stood next to you!

I think whether in the uk or abroad the problem is the lack of consistency - now my DD is 14 I don't let her come food shopping with me as it is assumed my alcohol purchases are for her!

When I was between 18 and 20 I actually worked for a company who employed me to go in a shop to purchase alcohol and report back if I was IDed! I was sent at different times of day to buy what ever I want perfect job ;) on bank holidays especially christmas I would have to take some one under age with me (between the age of 12-17) and if they didn't ID the person I was with as well I would have to report back they would get in to quiet a bit of trouble too! So I guess they are only doing their job too

Cross at yourself and not the Rose & Crown I hope.

Cross with the situation really!
Remember this was 1987 - before the internet, and UK driving licences didn't have pictures... We were staying offsite, and so far in the trip hadn't actually been ID'd, but I took my driving licence with me to Epcot anyway. I was genuinely surprised that they woudn't accept it!
Bear in mind in a pub or something in the UK the driving licence was generally accepted - whether or not it was supposed to be I don't know, you just weren't asked as much those days...
So the whole idea of picture ID or nothing was something of a shock!
I learned quickly though :goodvibes

Me and DH are 25 and get ID ever time! I was with FIL in 2006 and we was buying cigarettes (both ex smokers now-4 years and counting) :woohoo:) FIL got ID and they wouldn't accepted his driving licence and they wouldn't allow me to buy them for him ever- I had my passport- very strict!!

The worse case of asking for ID was in 2007, DH had a awful cold and went to target to buy cold and flu remedies and when he went to pay he got ID! Turns out the cough sweets/ nasel sprays etc he bought were part of there 'restricted itmes' I still wind him up even now

have often wondered if they ID you if you buy a pump action shotgun from wall-mart?
