I.D. for 15 yr. old ?

Hi all!
I have a question...What kind of I.D. does a 15 yr. old need to travel on an airline? The rest of the party are all adults.

It is true, no ID is required for a minor. But, my 15 DD looks more like 18+ and was questioned when we went thru security. I had her birth cert just in case. I probably didn't need them, but I always brought with me when we traveled with the kids.

I have never brought any form of an id, birth certificate, etc for an under 18 year old. It doesn't matter how "old" they look. They aren't old enough to require an id. And that applies to 17and 3/4 year olds as well.

I travel with groups of high school students multiple times a year. We've never had to have any sort of ID, letter, birth certificate, or anything at all for any of the kids under 16. Once in a while they ask one of the more mature looking ones for ID and we say, "He's only 15", and that's the end of it.

Actually that "rule"applies to any minor under 18.

No ID is "required" but we were asked for ID for the boys (6, 12 and 13) on our trip last year. We had their "missing child" ID cards that came with their school pictures so we presented those. They even asked for ID for the 6yo. I didn't think anything of it but reading that no ID is required I now wonder what would have happened if we hadn't had the cards.

Maybe bring something...anything....Just in case.

What would have happened?? NOTHING. I have had agents ask just out of habit. They ask for all ids. All you say is, "he, she, they are under 18". That is the end of it. I just don't understand packing things that are absolutely not needed "just in case". There is enough stuff one has to bring.

I live about as far away from WDW as it's possible to get and still be in the continental 48. It makes me feel better for my teenagers to carry some form of ID even if it's not absolutely needed.

Does the 15 year old not have their learners permit yet? If not you can get a Id only card at the drivers licence office.

Travelers under the age of 18 need no ID. Now, with that being said, my dd, now 13, loves to travel with her school student ID card. It has their photo on it. If you are at all concerned about the possibility of your child having an issue at checkin, then get a passport for the child. But, it's really not needed if you're flying domestically.

In Ct. those non essential ids costs $25. I would imagine that there is a fee in most states. If I were going to spend $25 for an id that wasn't even remotely required, I would spring for the $90 or so and get my child a passport which would be required for a cruise or a vacation outside of the USA. I always considered the health insurance ID card a very important card to bring along in case an emergency room visit was required. I have learned however that the most important card to bring for those eventualities is a credit card. Sand Lake Hospital will "assist" you in filing an insurance claim but they want the cost of the visit on a credit card.

Thanks everyone for the advice and information. He doesn't have a learner's permit (not until 16 here) and he is home schooled so no school ID.
